    Hi All,

Just a quick word on how ye start the day meal wise?

I have about 40g of porridge soaked over nite in water and heated on the hob. I mix in half a banana, 3 strawberries, 7-8 blueberries and small bit of sultanas. Usually add bit of museli or 1 weetabix biscuit to thicken it up.

Sounds like a filling brekkie but i find myself very hungry again around the 11 am tea break at work. I resist the temptation of biscuits, bread and jam on offer and instead have a cup of green tea and portion of fruit.

Just wondering what people think of this start to the day?
Should i be adding a bit more porridge or what other mid morning snack recommendations would you have.

    I'm 30 years old 73 kg 5' 10''.

Sounds like a fairly low calorie breakfast to me. Are you exercising regularly? When I am I find that only a 600+ calorie breakfast really properly satisfies me. Certainly I'd be starving after what you've described and I'm much smaller than you.

Yeah do 4-5 weight sessions/week, play 5 a side once or twice a week, do a bit of road running and 25 mile cycle on either a saturday or sunday morning so am pretty active. Current training goals are to drop my body fat % to single figures and increase my overall strength.

Like eggs but not first thing in the morning so should i just increase the porridge level? Or should i bring a few oat cakes and cottage cheese to work as a mid morning snack?

    40g? That's a spoonful for me.
I'm pretty much the same height and weight as you and I have nearly 200g of porridge with milk and 4 - 6 eggs scrambled.

Op wat are you goals, as some of the guys above could be on very different diets.

I eat 50g oats, 17g cranberries, 12.5g nuts with a soup of honey and wate
(I'm not that anal with the measurements, I just mix 3 packets of 500g, 170g and 125g together to make 10 batches)

paleo bars, homemade flapjacks, biltong, nuts, dried fruit, fresh fruit, nut butters, dark chocolate, seeds, oat cakes.

Pretty much live on most of the above with some protein shakes thrown in.

I go in phases - plaeo bars at the moment and next month it might be something else

Seems a bit carb heavy to me (but maybe not depending what your training goals are?), I would try and balance it more and certainly get some protein and EFA's in there. Eggs a are good for both. I tend to go for something similar but I usually add some cold meat (chicken, tuna or ham) to get the protein in there. Again it depends what your goals are.

    Mid morning snack for me:

tuna, hard boiled eggs, chicken, some nuts, carrots&hummas, oat cakes, grain ryvitas, fruit. Not all of this, but most mornings a combination of 1 or 2 of them. Keeps me going until 1 anyway!

It's also worthing noticing that I haven't trained in about 4 years and only now starting to get back into it. It seems a lot of things that were a given back then aren't being recommended anymore, so I could be way off! - looks like I need to re-train myself - eh, literally too:D
