Weights - Vinyl vs Cast Iron

    wanna purchase a set of weights (dumbells/barbell)
    any advantage to cast iron over vinyl as theres significant difference in cost

    Vinyl weights are pretty big, and the sets usually only come with a light amount of weight. You'll likely outgrow any vinyl set of weights you buy pretty quickly, in which case, you'll need to get more. When that happens, you'll find yourself running out of room on the bar. They also wear out a lot faster if they're getting constant use.

    I'd recommend getting the iron ones even though they're more expensive.

    Do you mean york vinyl vs cast iron. Where the vinyl are basically plastic cases filled with a sort of concrete. In that case iron are far far better. Worth the extra cost.


    Or do you refer to olympic plates?
    Iron & Rubber
    In that case, the rubber plates are far far better. and over all far better than the york sets. I'f consider going for these above all others.

    i had a feeling i would get that response

    i was refering to the cast iron as opposed to olympic weights...

    cast iron it is so, olympics a tad pricey
