VinylJunkie suggested we have some sort of Christmas Meetup – I think this would be a great idea – its been ages since we have done anything, plus, there are still quite a few very regular forum members who have not shown their faces yet.

    Dates / Venue ideas?

Probably not considered a reg with my measly 251 posts :( but would be on for something like this.

In fact, I think a load of board members should head into the Heiko Laux gig next week. The guy is amazing as both a producer and a DJ.

It would be great craic to meet up for a few beers in town then head to a gig, or even better play a few tunes somewhere. There are plenty of gigs on next month here are a few I'm considering heading along to.

    3rd - Butch in Pod

10th - Marcel Fengler in Kennedys

17th - Booka Shade in Tripod
18th - Rob Hood in Twisted Pepper

Just looking, there is three gigs on the 10th I wanna go too :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,020 ✭✭✭ianuss

Ye, I'd head on in to something. I wouldn't mind catching Marcel Fengler either.

Maybe someone should setup a Boards Electronic Music & DJ'ing group on Facebook??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,245 ✭✭✭old gregg

yea sounds good. if it happened on a fri/sat night I might be able to skip up to town. If it was a small venue where some boards folks could perform/dj then all the better and unless there was scope for some ambient/downtempo I'd be happy to just show off some pretty advanced dance moves (including my trademark - stacking the shelves while sprinting) :p

Unfortunately I cannot do the 10th, I'm in London that weekend. 17th or 18th would be great, I'd prefer Rob Hood in TP,

I've a confession to make, I'm a techno virgin. I'm beginning to get in to it but I find Rob Hood to be like the music equivalent of Guiness - an aquired taste. I'm 30 and I only started to drink the black stuff last year. Maybe when I reach 40 I'll like Rob Hood?

Amount of posts doesn't matter, all welcome!

Should consider doing up badges too with the Boards logo and everyones username, maybe mod on Zascars badge in case of any trouble on the night.

Won't be going myself, sounds far too ghey* :pac:

    *joke

Move D gets my vote but I reckon I could be on my own with that one.

I'd do Move D if I can raise a few euro doing lap dances outside the local Lidl.

lol @ Jeff! I actually tried to out a comment against your first post saying "Welcome Jonny68" ;) but for some reason it won't let me post comments!

20 Members now, not bad, I wonder how many regular posters we have?

Oh and Scuba does not have a facebook account. He's one of 'those'..... :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,672 ✭✭✭seannash

Gonna throw the cat amongst the pigeons and suggest that we dont go to a gig.
everyone wont agree with the chosen night and nobody will be able to have a chat.
Bit of background music would be cool though.

That being said ive no idea what dates are good for me but i should be able to get down to ye

Yeah I'm with you Sean, just a few beers and then on to a decent did where we can all just have a bit of a laugh and some banter.

I'm easy on what gig it is really, but unfortunately I can't do the 10th. Any other time should be grand.

So, what dates would be best?

A John Cage gig could be good.

And I'm a student. Every day is a Saturday for me.

Ghey me hole :D (pun intended :D ). I'm in my element here as have won me some double passes to Heiko Laux. Been dying to see this dude on the decks for years now so woo f*****g hoooo :pac: Plus I has me some *cough* camels *cough* which I believe are fantastic!

PS: On Facebook but hate the F*****g thing so don't use it!

Yeah +1 for me on this one too...

    Ditto.

Joined the FB group but apart from being able to put some names and faces to screen names, what exactly are we going to do on FB that we don't do here already? Are we worried that if we plan it on an open forum some dorks might turn up that aren't as cool and groovy as us, and drive all the fine azz chicks away?

The 11th of December is the one night that deffo doesn't work for me, fwiw. Mrs.Milltown's xmas party is that night so I'll be home with the brats.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,245 ✭✭✭old gregg

yea well, I joined the FB group still under the misconception that I was the only guy posting here and that you were all hot chicks (like dj beauty), now I find it's all blokes. How ghey do I feel :p

Ah yes, the lack of females. The issue found on so many clubbing boards. Mates of mine used to say it was one club for the tunes on Friday and another for the clunge on Saturday.

Someone post in the Ladies Lounge and see any of them want to come :pac:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,577 ✭✭✭Android 666

Yeah, tell them you need a bit clunge to come along so it's not a sausage fest.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,577 ✭✭✭Android 666

Lads I'll not be able to make it. The missus is working every weekend in the run up to Christmas and I'll be looking after the kids so it just be a hassle if I had to drag them along. They'd just be shouting 'Stranger Danger' at any of you if you came near me. And then there's the cultural differences; you'd have to try and comprehend the earthy, uncouth tones of my midlands accent and I'd have to pretend to be interested in the strange, metrosexual practices of you city boys. It'd never work…

… don't worry though lads. I'll still try my hardest to piss you off here!

crikey Android, I'm reading between the lines and seeing an invite back to your place for beer and pills with the promise of nubiles and kebabs :p

you have no idea just how close to the mark you are there. It's fri afternoon, time to get sphongled and an ambient mikado sounds perfect right about now, and it's beer o'clock too. I can't believe it's not butter :p

Any date decided for this yet? I realise I've about 10 years catching up to do but if I'm round I might pop in. I guess the ideal scenario would be a bar some open decks policy so everyone could hop up for a bit and play some of their favourite tunes, but I imagine that's not hugely possible.

Well after I do my nudist djing and teabag scratching people generally don't want to follow me. I think it's because I'm so good...

Maybe do that another time but for now I think the easy/sensible option would be to just go for a few scoops and then to a gig after for those who get permission slips to stay out late!

Oh, who's hosting the after party?

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 12,781 Mod ✭✭✭✭Zascar

Right, so its set for the 18th. Prob get together for a few pints somehwere in town, and for those who want to, heading to Rob Hood after. Pub suggestions?

    So who's definitely coming?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,245 ✭✭✭old gregg

I'll be there quite likely. Kant think of a location as I don't know Dublin pubs that well and may or may not get to Rob Hood as I'm relying on public transport afterwards.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,401 ✭✭✭jtsuited

for the pub, it's gotta have a spacious smoking area (preferably heated) and be quiet enough to be able to chat casually.
