Seeing as discussion of this is kind of lost in the general thread, I thought I'd put up another one for it.

My girlfriend has college this evening after work, so it looks like I'll be heading on my lonesome :(

Is anyone else going? Fancy meeting up beforehand and going as a group? Save me from being the loner in the corner!

I'm going on my lonesome as well so wouldn't mind meeting up beforehand as well. No drink for me since the car is the only way home.

    Awh that's a shame :(

It's weird that they're playing in Ireland. If there's even a slim chance you can go you should try to drag yourself out as I wouldn't imagine they'll be playing here again any time soon. (I'd say this tour is just because of the whole Scott Pilgrim thing)

Retr0 was saying that their NES has a ps1 LCD connected up to it. Worth going just to see that! :D

Unfortunatly on a Wednesday night I'm always tied up looking after my son cos my missus goes out which is fine by me cos that means I can play xbox and drink myself into oblivion:D

    Bring him to Anamanaguchi! :pac:

Just stick on a fake tache and give him some random facts to learn about 8 bit games. If questioned about his age he can then throw out loads of obscure references to old videogames. Kids today don't know about about games pre ps3/xbox 360. It's the perfect plan :D

Good thinking but his mother would kill me just imaging bringing a 3 year old along to 8 bit mania. come to think of it he'd love it.
Just listening to them on Myspace now and I'm totally loving it I can't believe I've spent so much time without knowing of these rad dudes...yea I said rad dudes;)

Would be there with bells on if I could.

I'll just listen to Dawn Metropolis and cry instead.

They have a gameboy hooked up to a PS1 LCD screen as well. It's all controlled by a laptop and some bank of dials and swiches. It's pretty cool. They could have played a recording but instead they have the actual gameboy and NES pumping out the music. They were dead sound as well, signed Sera's 8-bit heart hair pin she made and were drinking with the crowd in the pub afterwards.

    Yay!!!

Wanna meet me and Retr0 beforehand somewhere?

Just saves me going on a man-date with him. I don't want to make Sera jealous :pac:

    Slanderous lies!

That plan might actually work.... would mean I wouldn't have to make up some ridiculous reasons as to why I wasn't in work and why there's pictures of me having amazing fun on facebook when I should have been working...

I'm up for it too, was afraid I would have to go alone after my thread in the gig buddies section was ignored...

They sound quite good, I'd say it'd be a fun show to see live.

Unfortunately I'm going to a talk on the future of print media, and I can't miss it because it might settle a drunken bet. :D Plus it has free tea and biscuits.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 886 ✭✭✭randomchild

So people still up for meeting before hand? How would 7 in the pav in trinity sound? (cheep drinks).

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,408 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Sounds good to me. might be a little late depending on how the traffic is and if i can get a parking space.

Ack, that involves associating with students :(

How about the Gypsy Rose? It's right beside where the gig is on and all drinks are €4..including Captain Morgans. Nyom!

Do you remember where I live? Parking should be free outside and there'll be spaces. It's about a 5-10min walk up to where the gig is.

Not really, I usually try to find a space on the quays which is hit or miss. Could you google maps me?

I'm easy with where we go to meet up.

Also Captain Morgans, I hate it becasue it's horrible but even more because you can't get a Morgans Spiced Rum anymore since that crap took over, a far superior beverage expecially mixed with coke.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 886 ✭✭✭randomchild

Sounds fine to me, i'll be wearing a space invaders t-shirt so yous know who I am :).

Don't think I'll be there for doors opening, so can't meet beforehand! Will be knocking around inside somewhere, the beardy guy with shortish-black hair (probably 50% of the crowd will meet that description mind!) Am going with the gf so no worries if I don't run into anyone.

I thought captain Morgans was Morgans spiced rum? I confused!

I will also be wearing a space invaders shirt.

It's probably not the best tshirt to use as something to identify someone at a chiptune gig :D

I'll be the beardy guy with long brown hair and a black luminous green space invaders tshirt. The shirt should be pretty hard to miss :)

Nope it's totally different. Morgan's spiced rum isrum mixed with spices and has a nice vanilla tinge to it. It's absolutely delicios. Captain Morgans is a horrible Diageo commercial spiced rum that tastes of disinfectant. Hate asking for a morgan spiced rum and getting a captain morgans and having to tell the bar staff that it's different.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,790 ✭✭✭Jack burton

Yeah I saw them in cork last night too, they were brilliant! bought the CD and they signed it and all for me

Cool lads aswell, chatted to them for a few minutes. Asked about the modded NES's aswell, its a pretty noice set up they have

I'd love to be going to see them in dublin again tonight but alas, no money and work in the morning! Hope they come back to Ireland soon!

We'd a local band on first who were okay and a guy I know talking about a tetris game that he made and then themselves
would like to be up there myself, always seems to be something on, they're never left out

Just on the way home from the gig now, was great! Couple of technical problems at the beginning of anamanaguchi's set but other than that was amazing, and they played mess! And ended with mermaid!

Chipzel played first, had heard her stuff in the past and tbh I didn't think it was great, but she changed my mind tonight. Henry Homesweet played after and I thought he was fantastic, had heard of him before but never any of his stuff. Picked up the cds each of them had on sale.

    Didn't run into o1s1n or retr0 though!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,790 ✭✭✭Jack burton

Ah but technical problems are what make gigs memorible and not just like someone playing the cd at the gig :P
