Mini Sinn Féin riot at Government buildings

I'm surprised no one's mentioned this.
It's been carried live this lunchtime on BBC news 24 as they stormed the back gates of the building just down from the dept of Finance.

I saw Aengus O'Snodaigh getting battered about and pushed amongst the crowd by a riot Garda who musn't have known he is a T.D

It looks like only about a 100 or so people involved shouting angrily.

    {mods if another thread has appeared-please merge thank you-theres probably one in afterhours?}

This is all I can find online?
A number of people taking part in a Sinn Féin protest have managed to break through the security cordon at the gates of Government buildings.

Up to 50 of those taking part in the demonstration today managed to get through the main gates where they remained for a couple of minutes.

Gardaí managed to push back the crowd and they have now rejoined the protest at Merrion Square.

As an aside the protester who was run down yesterday was a SF activist.
    Ógra Shinn Féin spokesperson Dáithí Byrne criticized both the Government and the Gardaí who interfered with the peaceful sit-down protest;

'Today's developments has created huge anger in this country. We have, effectively, been bought and sold. The government has ran up the white flag of surrender to the IMF/EU who are notorious for their utter contempt for the rights of working class people. Already, within hours, the government is dancing to their tune, with rumours of cuts to the minimum wage and social welfare. Surely we cant be blamed in that context for protesting?'

"The Gardaí dealt with the peaceful protest irresponsibly today. The heavy handed tactics employed effectively resulted in a hit and run incident which seen a dedicated Ógra Shinn Féin activist sustain an injury. The events today, couple with those which took place at the recent national student march, demonstrate the widespread anger but also the low tolerance for peaceful protest."

Yes it is a Sinn Féin protest-everyone there are carrying SF banners anyhow and Aengus is at the head of it.
It seems to have calmed down now.

About time someone burnt them out of it.

Probably in there sitting down to a 4 course dinner and a laugh at our expense, before sitting into there 80k cars and fup off home, while clocking up expenses for sitting on the loo.

    Show them no mercy.

I suspect its in their very DNA, maybe their next ploy will be to burn down the Dail, take over the GPO, & proclaim a 'New Republic' with Adams as the new Pádraig Pearse, the IMF & EU guys could then be their new ememy, burning of EU flags would then follow, we could then leave the Eurozone & refloat the Punt, without foreign interference ;)

I dont think there is a genetic marker that marks out members of sinn fein as being any different from any other politcal party supporting human.

    Hardly a surprise.

The head of security for Govt buildings needs to be demoted though, absolute national disgrace that protestors can be allowed into the complex - regardless of government, national security is sacrosact.

Fair play to the Gardaí beating them out, they had no right - TDs aside - to be in there.

A note to anyone protesting: protest is fine. Noise is fine, flags are fine, hell I'll even get over you blocking the street and making me late for work. But unless you're planning an armed revolt (and I wouldn't blame them) then get out of our public buildings. They're the only nice ones in the city and trashing them will not help, they've been there 200 years ;)

Fair play to the traffic cop for taking on the crowd single handedly. And managed to keep them back too.

Then the crowd complain about him drawing his baton in such a situation

He did the job of 5 men.

Right so what would you call it if 100 angry, shouting people forced their way into your premises and refused to leave?

Sinn Fein, eh. Good good. The more damage they cause they less votes they will get, and thats a worry, as we dont want these muppets holding the balance of power.

    Fixed that for you.

    Sow chaos & confusion!

The posters say Stand Up and Fight....and then they all Sit down!....very Machiavellian altogether! How could you win against tactics like that?:D

Extraordinary protest video that was. If the gardai can't handle 50 or so people at the gates of Dail Eireann, how can they handle thousands when they come?

this is just the start of it - its going to get worse so get ready. They do say history repeats itself - bring on the revolution.

at least they had the guts to stand up and be counted, if a little late. Anyone see any yellow party people there? no? yes?

can someone clarify - we ARE still in a democracy right? where people have the right to protest? right? or has that been sold down the swanny as well.

as far as the "riots" are concerned - I'd say you've seen nothing yet.

Just watched the video on RTE here
    http://www.rte.ie/news/2010/1122/politics.html#video

After the protest calmed a little bit and the Gardaí had a line, there were armed military police standing in front of the courtyard. Wonder what they'd have done if the crowd had tried again to storm the building?

Scary thought, probably they would have just let the crowd by but it's reassuring to know we do actually have an armed security presence there that I didn't know about. Because no matter what happens, you cannot be in a position where people are allowed attempt to seize government buildings.

The gardai had to run past them to stop them going any further into the courtyard. Where is all the security that we're supposed to be paying a fortune for ? How come Mary Harney's protectors allowed her to get splattered with paint ?

Whats the point of protestors breaking into government buildings? Do they think if they take it over they will be the new government? We all want FF gone, and they will be gone in Feb. Sinn Fein wont be replacing them.

I would have considered voting Sinn Fein, but this and last night is just making me think they are another idiotic party on the same lines as SWP and Eirigi. I really thought Sinn Fein had grown the f**k up.

Ah I know we won't agree with our views LordSutch, but I just thought, in the Republic, that Sinn Fein had outgrown the whole "lets get a bunch of idiots to do some teenage publicity stunts" sh**e.
    F**king embarrassing. We agree? ;)
