Just noticed the for sale sign up there earlier. It'll be interesting to see how long it takes for a buyer to emerge. I'd love to see it redesigned inside and opened again soon. It has the potential to be a pretty comfortable spot that ticks all the boxes of bar, restaurant, and cafe.

A few people, Flash included, as well as some people from further afield have expressed an interest.

Would be great to see it open again soon.

Interesting! I'd love to see that central bar removed.. difficult to relax in a doughnut shaped room.

My money is on Flash buying it.

Wonder if he'll want any staff. :P

It was an awful shaped bar in fairness. Island bars like that and the one in Muldoons take up an enormous amount of space that is just wasted. Masons as well actually, but that's getting moved soon I think. They are very awkward to run as well. The bar in the Junction - now that was a great bar to work in. :(

820,000 for the pub any takers? I assume its the bank selling yea?
It would be madnes not to get rid of the round bar.
I hope it gets sold soon

Oskars is a lovely spot alright. I'd say it will be snapped up fairly soon.

Pardon the pun but bar it being inconvient to work in an island type bar whats peoples problems with them? Generally I like them.

You could be waiting to get served on one side of the island for ages. Also, people like to be able to see what's happening on the other side of the bar.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25,953 ✭✭✭✭kryogen

they take up alot of space, can work in some places, not for others though. depends on the design of the pub

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 363 ✭✭munster_mafia

Points taken, never noticed a longer wait personally.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,459 ✭✭✭Ledger

What i dont like about them is the fact they take up so much room in the place.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 691 ✭✭✭wellboy76

Hope they dont do too much to it or McCann will object :p

Yeah heard that figure but also heard that 400k would secure it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,943 ✭✭✭abouttobebanned

400k tried and failed to secure it. As did 500k...

    The Bank!

    The Bank!
Which bank? It probably means we all own it :)

Bertie truly was a socialist. Even the Labour Party wouldn't have considered nationalising Oskars.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,943 ✭✭✭abouttobebanned

I heard that too. And then from someone else I heard that he hasn't even looked at the place.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 752 ✭✭✭jayboi

    Any more news on this?

abouttobebanned I aim that question almost solely at you!

It's a strange affair to be honest. 3 interested parties. 1 of which has plenty of money and if he was really interested would have bought it by now. I thought it would have been sold by now but alas something is holding it up.

All three parties, or their associated bars, are known to us all.

I'm definitely not in the know here but I'm constantly asking people who are to give me info. Either there's nothing to tell right now or people are keeping schtung.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25,953 ✭✭✭✭kryogen

Been told over and over again that mr x mr y or mr z has bought it, still nothing concrete however. i only know of two interested parties and for one of them its not viable right now imo

The reason he would have plenty of money is because he isnt jumping into it perhaps? (is it you??? haha)

I have been told a deal has been agreed, it will take time to get it ready to open however as the place was completely gutted and damage was done to the beer lines etc...

My mind is unboggled. I remember being in their during the good times (around 2005) midweek and the place was almost deserted. I can just imagine how it would be now. Also they seemed to have atmosphere absorbent walls or something it felt so dead in there (on a Saturday night).

Yeah, the place needs a serious rethink. Do many local people go to Woodlands for a drink?

Definitely the roundy bar design.. You had to run laps to catch the eye of a barman!, never mind find your friends.

Any idea who the new owners are?
Would anyone know did it make much money?

Im going to have to blame the round bar as well for atmosphere.

What grinded my gears was when they started putting in bands and sure as day the music was blaring and you couldnt hear people.
If I wanted someone to blow the head off me id tell the lack she could stand to lose a few pounds.

Dont get me wrong I do like live music and not to sound like an old fuss pot but why does it have to be so loud.

Oskars doesnt strike me a pub designed for live music anyway.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25,953 ✭✭✭✭kryogen

It wasnt, but a good acoustic act would work well if put in the right area imo

its not designed for a full band though

    Flash?

I imagine the place would lend itself to his sort of gastro-pub.

    Yep.

I thInk it'll do well TBH, not allot of pubs out that way given the population density out there. He knows his pub food too so that's half the battle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 602 ✭✭✭savic04

Flash took it over a while ago but there is a problem with license or something along those lines I think..

Should do well if run properly

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,362 ✭✭✭Trotter

Any idea of when it'll open? Id be guessing sometime around Halloween at best, Christmas at worst?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 602 ✭✭✭savic04

Was a problem. All sorted now.

I don't think it will be open before Christmas. Flash will be making a lot of serious structural and cosmetic changes.

Excellent.. I always thought the doghnut shaped bar was really anti social.
Are we looking at a decent pub where ya can have a chat with good food and a few sports screens? Thats my hope anyway!!
