As thread says, special show tonight TV3, 22.30. No word yet on guests but please let it be Lendihand himself. Better still, Martin Mansergh for comedy value.

Appalling that the national broadcaster RTEFF has nothing other than the usual propaganda on The Week in Politics. Hopefully IMF will take RTE, Pat, Ryan and all the other overpaid and overinflated egos first.

    Looking forward to VB.

VB is moving X Factor to a later time. Imagine! Lenny and Cowen must be wondering when they will get to see the X Factor result....

RTE have been a shambles, Today at lunchtime while BBC and sky were covering our sorry state. RTE were showing a re-run of winning streak

I have a feeling the acceptance of a bailout will be announced. On the BBC 24 ticker it said there is a conference call of the G7 going on atm about the situation here

The bailout has already been accepted by Lenihan at 1pm
Cowen will say the 4 year budget spending cuts is adopted by cabinet at 7pm

Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not tuned in very well to politics but did Lenihan not say in September that we won't need a bailout?

I think the post was in reference to how our own media outlets in this country and their relative silence on the matter which is deafening. You'd have to hope that the future will see the end of the TV Licence financing for RTE and with it their blatantly pro FF bias.

It's simply incredible that Ryan Tubridy garners a greater basic salary than Barack Obama and only in this country would such a thing happen.

TV3 is a private tv station and is not state owned, unlike RTE, therefore TV3 can pay him what he likes. I lean pretty far to the left by all accounts but stopping a private company from paying someone high wages is unneeded intrusion and not to mention stupid. They can spend/waste their money on who they want for all I care.

RTE said they will interrupt programming for any developments, I'm presuming this means they'll interrupt for his speech.

Why they're bothering I don't know, Cowen will just puke out the same rubbish we've all heard before.

    Correct.

Expecting the taxpayer to subsidise Pat Kenny's 800k pay packet is disgusting tbh.

my point was that they are all on pretty high wages with big egos not just the rte guys , that kind of money is insane.

but they continually give out about how much politicians are paid yet they earn as much themselves.

the press in ireland have replaced the church in terms of its power over people and events.

The union leadership is as bad.. They are recieving massive salarys.. They no when to keep quiet when politicians wages are mentioned.. Heres an example from Jimmy Kelly,,Unite trade union regional secretary.."

Mr Kelly said the Government was operating sham politics.

“There is no place left at the table for disgraced politicians that have only thought of themselves,” he said.

“They should be forced to step down immediately, relinquishing their fancy cars and crazy expenses and allow the people to decide who it is to negotiate our way out of the mess they have created.”

Have you noticed no mention about their salarys ? He couldnt, because then he would be drawing attention to the Union officals massive salarys

You are correct about Browne. He is overpaid by a mile, private sector or not. He is a multiple times failed business man, who talks down to and sneers at everybody he interviews if they don't happen to agree blindly with his arrogant outlook on life. He feigns concern for and empathy with people on low wages, which is a bit rich coming from a €300k fat cat. Simply address the sound of his own pontificating voice.
Only G Hook comes up to his standard of criticism of all and sundry.
That said the RTE crassly overpaid underperforming, fat cats, should be told they are on €60k effective tomorrow morning.

I would guess that this will be a press conference.

An official "Taoiseachs adress to the nation" would require equal time for the opposition on television.

    I suppose it's a technical pont.

Private sector or not? If someone else pays him, why do you care?? I care about people in RTE being overpaid, but that's because we must by law pay for a tv licence. But TV3 can pay their staff whatever they want, as long as I don't have to pay anything

Brownes Dalkey house is worth 3M apparently, bought for nothing. The real winners in the property market - which is by and large a zero sum game - was his generation. The cost is borne by people in negative equity.

If someone made 3M setting up a world class company in Ireland, that is to say on merit, Browne would be taking about increases in inequality, and the unfairness of the system.

He could give it back. Voluntary taxes? Capital gains on unearned wealth. Even the tories have increased that.

Also why does he need so many jobs, an act in itself which stops someone else getting one ( like the SBPost job). Thats materially affecting the GINI index.

I often wonder why people dont mention this to him when he is pontificating.

    Statement made

    http://waterfordwhispersnews.com/article.php?id=246
TAOISEACH, Brian Cowen, has told Waterford Whispers News that praying to God could well be a “viable option”.

On Friday afternoon, while praying for help in his local church, he admitted that Ireland would be best off praying for a miracle than borrowing money from the European Central Bank (ECB).

"We're ****ed! There's nothing else left to do only pray

"If every single person in the country prays we should get some kind of response.

"After all, we need all the help we can get." he added.

Cowen highlighted the fact that miracles have happened in the past and could happen again if we all just come together and ask the big guy for some help.

He said the focus of the prayers should be providing a contingency capital fund that can be used as a back-up for the banks.

"You will need to specify this in the prayer, otherwise he won't know what your on about" said Mr.Cowen.

The Taoiseach admitted that although the Government will be applying for a bail out, it doesn't expect to see anything happy or positive for at least 20-30 years.

Speaking about the type of prayer to be used, he said that the 'Our Father' is a good one to start with and that people should 'ad lib' between verses and use a worried tone when speaking.

"The prayer should sound real and desperate. Don't be afraid to get down on your knees and beg. If this run of bad luck keeps up, we'll all be very used to kneeling" he joked.

Enda Kenny, the leader of the opposition, described the Taoiseachs praying strategy as 'ludacris' and stated that the 'Hail Mary' would be a more suitable prayer to use.
