Try doing it in another part of the world where this veg is seldom eaten and see what the response would be.

If you asked me to think of a vegetable with no preamble or addition whatsoever, I'd say carrot. It's just the first vegetable I think of. It's the veg I most commonly eat (that doesn't come from a tin or packet of some kind).

Although that makes sense it's not true, ive done that trick on people loads of times obviously not saying the word arrow and it worked the same way. Not sure how it works but it's cool when it does. Usually the responses are carrot or cabbage.
