Acronyms you use every day?

    As I sit here, procrastinating, supposedly updating our new SOP's after a new system was installed during the week, I got to thinking, what different acronyms do Boardsies use on a daily basis?

    I'll list mine below, along with the meaning.

    SOP = Standard Operating Procedures
    VIP = Very Important Person (You would be suprised what makes you a VIP in this hotel. But as with most hotels, the more V's, the more important the person. So if you are just a VIP, you're probably not that important afterall)
    SKN = Standard King Room
    STN = Standard Twin Roon
    STR = Standard Triple Room
    JST = Junior Suite
    1ST = Executive Suite
    COD = Cash on Delivery (Usually for flowers or what have you delivered for guests)
    DM = Duty manager (General dogsbody of a manager. No matter what department you work in, if you are DM, you could be anywhere you are needed!)
    GM = General manager. (The Boss)
    DOS = Director of Sales
    DSR = Daily Sales Report
    etc etc etc

    I should really get back to work...

    my favourite when dealing with "faulty" merchandise..

    rtfm = read the feckin manual

    my favourite when preparing my stew recipe..

    bfp = big feckin pot

    my favourite when on a night out one of my friends scores and goes off with a guy..

    mia = missing in action

    my favourite for when a so-called faulty thing is returned to store by an irate narky customer..

    "the RFcam seems to be faulty, we'll have to send it away for repair" = weeks of meaningless messing customer around ;-)

    RFcam = word/part made up by work colleague years ago..

    Solution = drop said faulty merchandise on floor from a height of at least two feet from floor, usually fixes the RFcam..

    A little from column A and a little from column B. You could also call it FAP = Furious Arm Pumping.

    I have to live with acronyms everyday in my job. Everything is an acronym including the name of the organisation, the projects and programmes within the organisation, nearly all job titles, important documents and everything else. When I first started I hadn't a clue what anyone was talking about. There would be full conversations consisting primarily of acronyms. I've gotten the hang of it now so now I feel like a cool insider.
