Bored of BO already

So i looked forward to BO multiplayer like most people here ,initial impressions were average.
Since then i find myself playing it more in the hope that ill enjoy it more but unfortunately the more i play the more i dislike.
Ive hit lvl 50, used all weapons perks etc and just find the game boring and dare i say it arcadey or consoley with the run and gun gameplay and all the gimmicky crap.
Every weapon seems to feel the same apart from looking different
I seem to be going through the same as i did with MW2,forcing myself to hit max lvl to have played a fair amount to judge it fairly but ultimately disliking it.
When i want to pass some time playing an fps i find im going back to Medal of Honor,Bad Company2,Day of Defeat source, Team Fortress2 and COD4.
I had high hopes for BO mainly because of dedi servers but also because i actually enjoyed WaW multiplayer ie treyarchs last COD but i just cant take to black ops at all :(
Im probably in the minority but anyone else bored of it already?
Maybe im just getting old :)

You're not alone. I was playing on console, but traded the game in yesterday. Love the COD series, but found that this was not worth my time.

I hated MW2 after 24 hours. Stopped playing it after a week for a month or two. Came back and appreciated it a bit more than before. Maybe if you did likewise, give a break for a bit instead of forcing it on you, you could come back and enjoy it more.

Im not bored at all, but then i enjoy playing the game with friends, thats the biggest attraction for me. If i had a proper PC still then i'd probably be like yourself and would play it for a few times and head back to the better pc games... when cod4 was released i played it for about a week and just got fed up with it and stuck with cs and tf2 or even some quake/UT. They are imo much better games and are far better suited for the PC not too mention all the RTS/MMO's available on the PC.

But yeah... too answer your question, no im not bored :)

There was a lot of hype for this game. Hype is a bad thing! Always raises your expectations.

Playing with a group on Teamspeak so it's a case of I'm playing whatever they are playing ... but I could take it or leave it , wouldn't bother me if I never played it again ...except for the cash outlay .

    I aint bored either yet!

I take it for what it is....you are always gonna get bored with COD quickly coz lets face it there is very little there to start with. I think if I had played the other games there would be nothing new for me at all. I do find myslef thinking how good the MP would be with tanks and that like BFBC2......

Ahh well it will do till the new maps for BFBC2 come out and then I will play that and rock back and forth.

I can see what your saying, I think treyarch listened to the hoards of moaners on youtube and came out with a fairly generic game with great maps. Loosing the target of a nuke or something similar for players I think is a great loss. The glitches, boosting and noobtubes gave something to talk about among players and made it controversial. Youtube was kept going for 12 months on MW2 videos where as I can only see Black Ops keeping interest for another couple of months. I'm already bored looking at the youtube vids. I haven't played the game much yet as my Xbox is being repaired so maybe my opinion will change.

Finding the contary tbh. Game play is improving as players start to learn the maps and the weapons. Playing with yer mates on teamspeak also makes the game immensely more fun.

I havent prestiged, wont do that until I get bored with it.

World At War done tanks in Multiplayer. Bad idea for such small maps. Game wouldn't work so well on large scale maps either I'm afraid :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,913 ✭✭✭Absolam

I find myself going back to the Battlefield time and time again for multiplayer; Medal of Honour isn't bad but BO just paled into Benny Hill Blast Ems again.... and I was so looking forward to it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,013 ✭✭✭✭Wonda-Boy

Well, when I said adding tanks n **** I meant obviously tweaking the maps cherry

I can just see NUKETOWN with 4 tanks in the back garden...LMFAO. I personally wish the map where a little bigger and the spawn points were fixed.

And the game needs in round team management BIG TIME.

Im trying so hard to not say it but... I dont find the excitement to go play it like I did previous games.

Its call of duty... if you want BF go play BF... lol. The maps are as big, if not bigger than any of the other cod games. I think they've already said they'll be tweaking spawn points tho.

Had some awesome games in wager mode last nite with clanmates, great craic. One of the best things put in ANY cod game imo.

The maps in COD UO are vastly bigger than anything in black ops.
But yeah if i want to play large scale maps ill play BC2 :)

I was just wondering is Black Ops is worth the initial 50e investment or is it better to wait/get it at all? I have embargoed the series since COD4. I loved the first 2, the 3rd was ****, and CO4 was a masterpiece. However after the release of World at War and Modern Warfare 2, I have decided the series had peaked at COD4.
There are much better online experiences for ffp's in my opinion such as Battlefield, but I was wondering if Black Ops has brought anything new to the series. And not just stupid online perks such as a ninja blade, or super jump. I don't want ****ing halo.

I'm finding it very hard to commentate on BO though

Are you scoring/doing as well as you did when you played MW2?

    U numpty.....;)

What I mean is, from what most of the OP are saying is that this COD has not changed much at all. If they are gonna bring the series on and stop having them like "POLICE ACADEMY FILMs - Call Of Duty 22:Very BLACK OPS" then something has to change. And this could be the next step a few jeeps, tanks whatever. Is was just a suggestion thats all.

In fairness tho.. the killstreaks are just as powerful in black ops, its just harder to get them.

I would say that this is the biggest reason why some people are bored at the game, because its harder than MW2. You cant just camp yourself to 5 kills and end up with another 20 from killstreaks alone. I was being nosy last nite and looking at some people on my friends lists combat records last nite, most of the ones that don't like the game.. havent even given it a proper go yet, alot of them havent tried out the chopper or gunship. Very few people have large 60+ high scores and most play nothing but TDM. I guess those are the games that really gave some people a buzz in MW2, those one off games where you went on a complete rampage.. they're rarer now tho and some people dont like it :)

    Thats exactly my point though.

Im saying that I obviously dont got 40-2 every game anymore because of th K/S not counting towards other ones and not being as powerful as MW2

I honestly think I just havn't given it a chance yet and need to pay it a bit more

But the excitment is deffo not there

Yes if not better, scores or K.D ratio has nothing to do with it,im playing fps games for many years both very competitively and now for fun, im no pro but pretty capable :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,732 ✭✭✭Magill

I guess its like every game, some people will never like it others will love it, like MW2... i dont think you'll find many fans on the PC of MW2 thats for sure ;) . My advice would be to leave it for a few weeks or even a month or so and then come back. If you dont like it after that... we'll i guess you're never going to like it. Every game has its fans and haters, blackops is no different.

I'm doing better on this game than I did on MW2. I really like this game and have actually been playing a lot more objective gametypes on it which has taught me a lot.

I really like the different pace and the 1v1 dynamics, and I used to love nothing more than picking my "Witch" class and runnin amok on MW2 !

Is there a problem with the PS3 version of the game because although opinion seems to be divided about whether the game has anything like the longevity that MW2 has, it seems to be more PS3 players that have the hump with the game.
Hopefully this can be patched as it would be a real shame if the game doesn't live up to the hype..

Its definitely alot different for us commentating thats for sure. The killstreaks I have no problem getting. Ive played most of my time on Blops with headpunk and he will tell you i get dogs and chopper gunners left right and center.

I think its a different kind of frustration. Its kind of like "awww what the fook, you ba... ah nevermind". I dont find it competitive like MW2 was. Its more like a family game. Oh everybody is able to get kills and everyone has fun theres no out and out better players. Yeah all well and good, for buswan kers.

Still enjoy it a fair bit. I only play around 3 times a week tho as opposed to pretty much everyday MW2 :pac:

Had to pull ya up on that part mate. I presume your taking in general(public matches)? I really don't see how MW2 is more competitive compared to the likes of COD2, 4 and now BO Selecta(I'm ignoring COD3 as it hurts my head even thinking about it. Never played WaW.)

    Lunge.
    Boom.
    Painkiller.
    Ridiculous blast range on shotgun.
    Noob tubes.
    Iz want Noooooke.
    Damn, I lost my tent!
Spawn trap so I can improve my K/D.
    Beep beep beep(heartbeat sensor).
    OMG I gotta Nooooke.

That ^ in essence summed up MW2. It wasn't competitive unless you resorted to similar cheap tactics(IMO). Any average player could use some of things and do well. Probably not consistently well but it was possible to get some ridiculous scores

Sadly for them, most of that is gone or nerfed big time. It's about ability more so now. I'm sure there are a few people here might not like to admit but those things I mentioned are factors as to why are not liking the latest.

I believe people should give this a chance, a proper chance. To say your done after 2 weeks is ridiculous as it is hilarous. What many are saying in this thread is how I sounded at the exact same time last year. What I did instead of throwing in the towel is give the game a break for a month or two instead of forcing myself to play it. Which a few here no doubt have been. I began to enjoy MW2(at times) 3 months after buying it :)

Pretty much what i was gonna say ade, also... its not that theres no stand out good players... its just harder to stand out because you rely more on skill than on overpowered game mechanics.

Dont think for a second I dont agree with you buddy :D All that crap gone is great! Im glad. Im just saying that i dont find myself dying to play this one and in terms of scores and KD its pretty much the same if not better. Just no thirst to play it. I dont seem to be the only one. Saying that ill definitely continue to play it fairly regularly as i dont enjoy any other game at all in multiplayer.

On a side note I have no idea where you got the idea that im stopping playing the game altogether!

I play it damn near every chance I get at the weekend, only because I only get to play it at the weekend. I probably wouldn't be that interested in it (to the extent I am now) if I had it up here.

I think people in general hyped it up way too much, and no game could ever meet those expectations (though Treyarch are trying to balance it).

That's fair enough man. You seem to be minority in those who aren't captivated(like meeeeee :pac:) by Black Ops in that your glad they've nerfed and removed a lot of that ****e. As said a few times now, I think deep down many people who aren't enjoying BO are missing that aspect ie: the BS things I mentioned above.

Guilty of doing the same with MW2 admittedly. Part of the reason I really never warmed to it. You probably didn't notice but around a week from release till I picked it up I kept fairly schtum trying not to get my hopes up. I mentioned how I found it funny some people were immediately saying this the best COD game ever and 2 weeks later the opinion has been pretty much turned on it's head.

I will say one thing though, despite all my defence of Black Ops... COD4 is still miles ahead as the best COD multiplayer. All that needed to be fixed/removed was 2 perks. Nothing more and it would have been MP perfection.

Helps not being over-exposed to the game. In the long run you and Eamo will enjoy it more than most I reckon. Helps that you as well as my connection has improved(well it seems your one has).

= CS. still miles ahead of EVERY MP game imo. Cant wait for HL3 and a new cs. CoD4 might be good, but when you could still go back and play a game for hours on end, 11 years since you first played it... thats when a game will be an equal for cs.

Should have added MP on console, my bad.

Its a pretty simply concept that you dont seem to be able to grasp, I dont like the game end of story, maybe that will change who knows.
You keep coming up with these one liners that suggest people are wrong to dislike the game,ie the above quote and suggestion earlier in this thread that those who dislike may have a poor kill/death ratio.
Its nothing to do with time played or kill/death ratio.
Im mean the game is hardly hard now is it?its an arcade shooter where frags are ridiculously easy to come by for all.
Sadly for them, most of that is gone or nerfed big time. It's about ability more so now. I'm sure there are a few people here might not like to admit but those things I mentioned are factors as to why are not liking the latest.

If you knew me mate you would know im a veteran fps player and more than capable of holding my own against very good players just like quite a few of the old regulars from boards who around here for many years.
You would also know i hate mw2 exactly because of the many elements that make it easy as you have listed earlier in this thread and that i enjoy the more challenging fps games.

Your argument that people dislike the game because it may be too hard is absolutely ridiculous and totally unfounded, just a wild assumption on your part i might add.
Cant you just accept my opinion that as of now i dislike the game and move on :)
I welcome debate etc but you just seem to want to push your opinion a wee bit too hard :)
We all are entitled to our opinion, if I dislike a game just let it be so, i wouldnt patronize you if you disliked something i liked by suggesting in effect the game was too tough for you therefore thats why you dislike it, thats pretty arrogant im afraid to say mate.
You like BO i dont, as i say that may change but let me make up my own mind :)

His "one liner" was hardly to say your wrong if you dont like the game... he simply said that to give up after 2 weeks is hilarious... i agree. I've seen alot of games change massively within the first month or two of release.

In fairness, if you dislike the game... just say it once and be done with it. Dont see why people that dont like the game have to constantly post about it(Not directed at you, but there are others that need to say the same thing 50 times). A game is only as easy as your opponents(You could join a public game of quake and think its easy.. try playing against Toxic or whoevers at ze top these days), this game is no different, its almost certainly harder for newbies to get kills than it was in MW2.

Its obvious that ade wasnt painting everyone with the same brush... but im inclinded to agree with him that alot of people dont like the game because they can't use cheap tactics and classes to get easy kills... in general.. because they're not very good.

There's nothing wrong with him defending the game, i dont see him trying to force his opinion on anyone.

Likewise theres nothign wrong with not liking the game... everyone to there own... ****... i dont like curry... im sure lots of others do.

I've said my opinion in a few detailed posts before so I don't feel it's necessary tbh to go into great detail for the umpteen time.

I'm certainly not one for generalizing.. if you did meet me you might understand why :D People are obviously entitled to their opinion. But when people are either claiming this is the best COD ever (even mainstream names like Hutch who said the exact same thing for for MW2!) or on the other hand those who dislike the game in the space of 2 weeks it's just comes across as OTT in certain cases. I'll say it now but the thread where there was a poll asking if you prefer MW2 or BO I think it was, this was after a few days after release! Give it a month at least.

I appreciate one posters opinion in particular so admittedly reading him say that he has traded in the game already was just baffling tbh.

As for K/D I'm sure there are people out there who are doing as good if not better than what they were before but are not enjoying the game but there are some who aren't getting the scores they once did. This could be a factor for people disliking the game. Nothing wrong with me asking people here is that is in their thinking when they say they are not enjoying the game. The COD official forums proves there are people of this opinion. So it's no wild assumption I'm making.

To be blunt, Magill is in the the money(getmecoa.gif) with regards to my opinions... the only thing he is wrong about is his disliking of curry. What a weirdo :D
