i've lived a very sheltered life, so can someone please tell me
whats so lewd about these lyrics:confused:

    Relax don't do it
When you want to go to it
    Relax don't do it
    When you want to come
    Relax don't do it
    When you want to come
    When you want to come

    Relax don't do it
When you want to to go to it
    Relax don't do it
    When you want to come
    Relax don't do it
When you want to suck to it
    Relax don't do it
    When you want to come
    Come-oh oh oh

But shoot it in the right direction
Make making it your intention-ooh yeah
    Live those dreams
    Scheme those schemes
    Got to hit me
    Hit me
Hit me with those laser beams

    I'm coming
    I'm coming-yeah

    Relax don't do it
When you want to go to it
    Relax don't do it
    When you want to come

    Relax don't do it
When you want to suck to it
    Relax don't do it (love)
    When you want to come
    When you want to come
    When you want to come
    Come-huh

    Get it up
    The scene of love
    Oh feel it

    Relax
    Higher higher

What age are you OP, before I even contemplate going there?

EDIT, although I was 11 when it was 'out', I would have been as confuddled as you at the time to be fair.

About 20 years later, on music channels, that Maroon 5 song This Love had the "coming" blanked out in the line "keep her coming every night"... :pac:

Similarly, words like "ass" and "pissed" get blanked out on late-night music TV.

and when it was banned it shot to number one in the charts..

I'm old enough to remember it well and too young to have been old enough to damage my memory in 1984.

    Ah, not really ashamed..

Ye will all laugh at your leggings in years to come..
I've already worn them in the 80's and still laugh at them now

The RELAX t-shirt was so rebellious at the time..

I remember getting into really serious crap in school for wearing it for gym..

Sounds stupid now but it was.. :)

The video of the nightclub with the golden shower and the guys wearing bondage gear etc was replaced by a vid of just the band performing the song and a bunch of laser beams (yes, they were being literal when they sang "Hit me with your laser beam"... :pac:). They objected to the song being banned by BBC Radio 1 but because that banning resulted in its sales going through the roof, it seemed they were suddenly ok about censorship if willing to film such lameness.

Still though, the original video was pretty outrageous for its time - shame pop acts aren't as daring any more and what consitutes "daring" is Lady GaGa's weird yet sexy outfits.

Heh, love the occasions when AH threads turn into nostalgia-fests for the auldies... :pac:

Nah, by the time Bros came along a few yeras later I had realised how cool I was. (Unfortunately, my peers were not as perceptive as me on that front)

All the Taylors in Duran wanted me, as well as Le Bon and Rhodes, so you just dream on Foxy, in your "Frankie says..." tee shirt. And anyway EVERYONE knows you can't like FGTH and DD at the same time 'cos it's not allowed! So, actually, you're not cool, actually.

Am old enough to remember it charting and the Harp bar westmoreland street was were I use to hang out at the time to . I had the T - Shirt to ( ah 80s memories ;))

a BBC DJ called Mike Reid refused to play ' Relax ' song on his radio show due to the lyrics which only upped the sales of and no doubt helped the record to reach no 1 in the charts ( but would have anyway ) .

Think it was the same DJ who also on release, refused to play the Sex Pistols ' Anarchy in the UK ' .

Result ? ... that also reached no 1 which had Fcuk all to do with with him playing it or not .

    .

I'm sure the 'ban' wasn't as draconian in Ireland as it was in the UK. Ironically.

Let's just say I only had access to Irish media back then. And I heard the song plenty. Think in Ire it was allowed after a certain time of the night.

Could be wrong though, I'm going senile these days

You could get into serious trouble with anything remotely Frankie related at my school at the time. The funny thing is, the teachers didn't actually know what the controversy was actually about, just that they were considered controversial and they must have thought "That's enough of that now, (careful there) down with that sort of thing.."

Yes! Now I can remember Gerry Ryan playing it at night, after much hype: "you won't get this on the BBC, boys and girls..."

Yep, diagnosed with HIV about 20 years ago and apparently given six months to live at the time. Hearing him say, in an interview, with his extremely camp Liverpool accent (an accent that, like the Cork one, lends itself very well to camp) "Well Mike Read was just a fucking wanker really" made me giggle... :D

Ah, Smash Hits - such a fantastic mag before it became all sanitised in the 90s... :o

I think I might have recorded that off the radio..
    In the kitchen..
Telling my mother to be quiet..
Put tape recorder as near to radio as possible and hope to god nobody farts, belches, talks etc..

Despite its perceived "sauciness" (the word "sex", that's about it) the sentiment of it was an endorsement of monogamy (height of the AIDS panic). A decade later, George Michael was in a very public open relationship... :pac:
