Mixing weights and cardio

    Question all. Right now my routine is three days on the weights and then cardio (cross-trainer or cycling) in the intervening days. My priority is building mass though and I'm a bit worried that the cardio might be not be helping with that, or otherwise holding me back. Am I worrying over nothing or should I ditch the cardio work?

    Are you gain weight of at least 1 pound per week? If not you should increase cals or decrease cardio or both

    Wats your current diet and weight program?

    Building mass is a function of several factors.

    1/ Good nutrition to help build and grow muscle during rest periods (this is the only period in which muscle grows)
    2/ A good structured work out. I would suggest 5 or 6 days a week resistance workout. A 3 or 4 day spit hits every muscle type intensivley.

    Dont dismiss cardio. Your heart is your most important muscle. Always try to do 3 cardio sessions a week for general well being and overall fitness.

    You may find that lots of food and working out causes your body fat% to increase as you gain muscle. This is normal and extra cardio and tweaks to your nutrition can help reduce this.

    That's pretty much why I've introduced the cardio days. My only concern was that these would interfere with my rest days or otherwise consume calories that would be used in building muscle. You say that this is not an issue?

    Nothing special. I started from a fairly low base (ie, skinny bastard) so I've been largely focused on getting the protein needed. This is without switching over to some elaborate bodybuilder diet. Now that I have put on some muscle I want to trim off the fat gained while continuing my weights programme
