Treadmills are very expensive. Sure you can buy a cheap one but the cheap ones tend to be very noisy, not go very fast and break down quicker.

A reasonably good treadmill will cost you more than a gym membership.

If you are adamant to workout at home as opposed to a gym, why not buy a rowing machine? You can always run outside whilst you can’t do an equivalent of rowing – bar actually getting a canoe or something.

A high-end treadmill like the one in the gym I use costs 5,700 sterling. A high-end rower like the one in the gym I use costs 1,150 sterling. Obviously, you’ll probably not be going high-end but, whatever your budget, you’ll be able to get a better quality rower than treadmill.

Personally, I have neither at home (although I do have a set of weights). However, if I were to buy cardio equipment, a rower would definitely be my preference.

There are quite a few threads here already about this, if you search (for treadmill, no H in it).

I have one, it was used regularly, until I started running outside. Now it gathers dust, because I never use it, I would run in a hailstorm in preference to it. Do you run at all, or are you hoping this will be a kickstart for you?

    Hi Texas Star

I bought one about 5 years ago, best investment I ever made. I bought it in JBs (I think thats the name) in Blanchardstown, they sell gym gear etc.,

I cant remember the name of it off hand but if you want to know I will get it this evening. At the time I think it cost 1,500 and never had any problems with it. I still use it to this day and it stores nicely when not in use. There is a very good speed on it and it is very sturdy.

Overall, it cost me less than the gym and I would use it at least 3 times a week. I originally got it as I had a bad back so started walking more and got this for the resistance. Since I got it I have more strenght and have dropped 2 dress sizes :)

There are obviously 2 sides to this question reading from previous answers but it really depends on your objective on whether you should buy one.
