I have some problem with my lower back where there is something wrong with three of my vertebrae.

I was in the Ilac Centre today and the above had a promo stall offering 50% off your first visit. €80 reduced to €40.

Anyone any experience with them or any other Chiropractors?

I highly recommend them. They are very well-trained and very professional. They treat a lot of sports injuries too. I highly recommend Bethany Andrews, who is in the U.S. at the moment. She has a lot of experience treating sports-related injuries, including MMM injuries.

Your first visit there will provide you with lots of information. They will test your ranges of motion, nerves, and muscles, after which they will give you a recommendation as to what steps to take next.

    Hope that helps,

    Paul

So I posted on Facebook that I was going to a chiropractor and got a torrent of negative comments like this, this, this and this

I'm nearly afraid to go near the place now

Some of that is pretty mental.
    In fact, very mental.

On topic, my experience with chiropractors is mixed.
I have had good ones and bad ones and the good ones still kept you coming back.

I started lifting and went to a decent osteopath and my back has never been better.
    Even with my ****ty deadlift.

I'm not saying anything against this company in particular but I have a bad injury as a direct result of neck manipulation 4 years ago.

I don't have any experience with Chiropractors in Dublin but the one I went to in Galway for years was brilliant. Only ever had good experiences with them, if you are a little unsure about it the physio I attend up here in Dublin uses some chiropractic manipulations as part of her treatment (if necessary?) and I can PM you the details of the clinic if you want, they specialise in sports injuries.

I'm more unsure about Chiropractors in general after reading that stuff. It's good to hear that you have had a good experience with them as there seems to be a lot of negativity around them.

My health insurance covers 75% of the cost of 7 annual visits to alternative medicine such as Chiropractors so I think I will go to a few sessions and see how it goes.

Even when I was attending my chiropractor I got alot of the same scare mongering and was told numerous times to go to a physio instead but it worked for me and I was happy with it, so ask plenty of questions when you go if you are unsure about anything and best of luck with it!

Much like personal trainers and fitness instructors, there are good and bad chiropractors.

As banshee_bones suggested, go have a chat with the people at Abbey Chiropractic and mention your concerns. They are very easy to chat to you and will answer any questions you have.

    Best of luck,

    Paul

I went to an osteopath in Rathmines named William Hauxwell. Went in like Quasi Modo and came out feeling a million times better. Had a rotten pain in my lower back and shoulders. What I thought was a muscular knot in my shoulder that I thought could be massaged out turned out to be a rib slightly out of place. I should say it was around my shoulder blade not the actual joint. Anyway a few sessions and cracks later and I've had no pain or discomfort since. Not entirely sure what the difference between an osteopath and a chiropractor is. Anyway, when it comes to your health I wouldn't necessarily be looking for bargains, find the best and pony up, you know it makes sense!!

I went in to that Abbey Clinic & found it good. Can't remember the name of my doctor, I think she's blonde??

I checked to see if they are registered with Chiropractic Assoc. of Irl. (for insurance) & they are, insurance as well.

I enjoyed the treatments, she only put me down for a few so I'll just go in every couple of months now to keep things ticking over. Was talking to another patient in there & they had a disc thing, like slipped or herniated (sp?) and they had to go for a lot more treatments but that's a more serious issue I think.

Haven't needed painkillers for back & no headaches since, so I recommend them. Staff are liovely as well, real friendly & you're not waiting around like you would in a GP office.

I've had bad experiences with chiros years ago but I think they are all a bit different, like how GP's or other doctors are different

It's called an activator. It's just as effective as manual adjustments though some people (like me) prefer the feeling and popping noises of a manual adjustment.
Though if I was injured and very tender then the activator is nice and gentle. It's also handy to use on neck vertebrae if someone's nervous re that area or if they are very seized up. Ask the doc when you are next in and they'll prob explain it better.
I always ask for manual adjustments just cos that's my preference and it does same job.

I got a groupon voucher to get a deep tissue massage which thought it could be good to consider this clinic for therapy for my spine problems. The day of the appointment I had some unforeseen at work so had to call them to ask for a re-schedule. For my surprise they told me that they had a minimum 24 hrs cancellation policy so they could not do that, and the money I paid for the massage was not refundable!!! Shame on them!!!!! Even if that is legal to do it is a very bad way of bringing new customers to the clinic. I will never recommend that clinic to anyone. I do not know how good or bad the doctors are, but the management could not be worse!

There is a huge % of chiropractors that are Scientologists compared to the general populace for some reason.

My explanation is that both are pseudo science that prey on the weak.

    they/them/theirs

Don't forget that scientology's believe they will live forever and need to have large sums of money to spend on 'The Bridge'. Hence having no problem extorting money from unsuspecting people who think they have something wrong with them.

I've actually been to both of these places. I found the Trinity chiropractic centre to be completely strange. I got bad vibes from the place straight away.

The Abbey one wasn't as bad but after a while I felt slightly uncomfortable going to the place.

Have you any links / evidence to back that up? I'm not doubting you it's just I'd like to know.

Did they call you alot when you stopped going? I used to hear the secretary calling people asking if they needed more treatment.
I though this was totally inappropriate!

Yeah. But I've done a bit of googling myself there and seen a few links.

The Abbey crowd certainly did on numerous occasions. The Trinity one was a groupon deal or something advertising a sports massage and an assessment by the physio. I was only interested in the massage but said I'd let the physio have a look over me. She wasn't too happy when she couldn't find anything that she could ask me to come back over.

Your lucky you got the physio! If you got the chiro they would have found something to make you come back!! ;)

I've been for massages. never had a problem. they cancelled on me one day as I'd just had an accident and back was swollen. gave me a voucher to make up for it.

my independent chirp said they did right.
