    Hi all,
Im in the market for a small 5/10w valve amp and have narrowed it down to:

Epiphone Valve Jnr (Combo and Head/Speaker)
    Fender Champion 600
    VOX AC4 TV

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions/experience with the above or any good alternatives? Its strictly for bedroom use and I'm not really bothered about on board effects as I have a BOSS ME-25 for that.

    Cheers

i've tried all of these, and to be honest they all sound quite boxy.
blackheart's little giant, fender's vibrochamp are much better alternative's.

Epi valve Jr combo is way too loud for bedroom use.
I don't know about the others.

The VOX wattage can be controlled without losing any of the tone so that might be the best bet:

they SAY it won't lose tone, but it sounds pretty crap tbh.

The Vox is a class A amp. Beautiful, but runs hot all the time, and not as versatile as some of the others mentioned here. Vox Lil'Nightrain, Fender Champ and Blackstar HT5 all lovely amps with a bit more versatility when it comes to clean.

The AC4 will not lose tone, but will sound different as 1/4 watt won't push the same air from a speaker that 4 watts will. A lot of experience with these, great amps, I love the little ones too, nice n punchy.

Remember, a lot of great songs have been recorded using small, low wattage amps with 8 or 10 inch speakers

Blackstar HT-5 is a peach of an amp,
I'm waiting to take delivery of a HT-1, a 1amp valve amp from Blackstar. Should have it this week, can't wait.

Just looked at a review of the Blackstar HT-1 and I want one! Have a quick question though:

I already have a vox valvetronix 50w combo, can I connect the Blackstar up to the Vox as they both support 8 ohms? Would I need to power on the vox too or would the power of the Blackstar be enough to power the Vox speaker? Sorry for asking but I have little knowledge in this area.

I have the Champion 600, and i've upgraded the speaker, it's a very nice amp, but the 6" speaker does make it sound quite boxy. Here's an oldish video of mine:

I've played the Vox in Xmusic a few times and loved it. But i find everything sounds good in there when you're playing in such a huge room.

And as said, even at 5 watts, the Fender is too loud for bedroom use! I find my Champ needs to be pushed past 8 to get the sweetest tone.

Thanks for that - nice playin man! Looks like it will be the Blackstar so, just have to find where I can buy one now.

sorry mate been off the forum for a while, I'm buying from Niall in the Music Outlet in Swords, co. Dublin. he has some HT-5's in stock but the HT-1 is just coming in from the supplier who incredibly could only source 6 amps for this delivery, thankfully including the one that I want. He's due 40 (the supplier) before christmas. I think they'll be a big hit.
