Well, orangutans have red hair. Does that mean people with red hair are orangutans?

You need to read the first chapter of "A History of the World in 10½ Chapters". Then it will all make sense!

Ah come off the stage. Tis an offer, that's all. If you don't like it, don't take up the offer. Like the offer some hotel ran a few months back, something along the line of all Patricks stay free on Patrick's Day. Nobody had an issue with that.
Stigmas relating to religion/gender/sexual orientation/hair colour will always remain as long as people keep raising an issue with them.

Maybe foxes are orangutans too? Or maybe foxes are people with red hair?

I called in there on Sep 23rd (St. John's Day) demanding a free room and they looked at me like I head 2 heads... grr.

theres no need to get so argumentative about it.i was just expressing my opinion and youve just made it all dramatic!

I'm thinking about a hair dye myself... especially since the success of the local nightclub's ladies free night... all I had to pay for was my 10 pints of Guinness.

ah come off of it. Things like that are always going to exist, bullying is primitave competition, trying to gain an edge over everyone else and ultimately just human nature.

I also don't think this is going to do any good for any young redheads either. Having been through it all, I can easily say that Dublin Zoo has just given the primary school bullies all around the country, yet another thing to throw at redheads. Whoever came up with the idea is a fúcking idiot.

(Is 22 young enough to get in with this offer as a "kid"?)

:DThis reminds me of those far-fetched Harry Potter films. A ginger kid with two friends how preposterous is that.

If they wanted attention they're gonna get it with this offer but comparing red heads to animals?

    Me smells PR disaster.

    Will they keep them?

Jesuschrist, they're not compairing people to animals... Although, if you want to get into it.. we did evolve from them

I know it's meant to be tongue in cheek, but I'm surprised at Dublin Zoo and I think it's a terrible thing to make fun of them like that.

Orangutans have enough problems as it is.

Anyone who thinks this is racist should call Dublin Zoo and ask to speak to their Public Relations Officer.

    Her name is Dee Lyons.

The word you're looking for is discriminatory. A group of people having the same hair colour does not make them a race. So it is not racist to single them out in a positive or negative way.

The free entry also applies to anyone that wears a red wig, or dyes their hair, so there isn't even anything discriminatory about this.

There are red haired children that commit suicide, due to the treatment that they recieve.
I always say, remove the "ginger" from a comment and insert "Roma/Black/Traveller/Woman/Etc". If the comment is unacceptable with one of these descriptions, then the remark is not acceptable

I got a great laugh from this thread but decided to check out the original link and it says
*The Zoo welcomes any type of red haired child under 16 years of age for free to the Zoo this weekend.

** Orang utan fancy dress can include anything from an orang utan suit, a red haired wig or red/orange item of clothing such as jumper, trousers or coat. All you need to do is make an effort on the day!

Doesn't sound discriminatory to me :)

As a ginger I find it offensive, as a non ginger my husband finds it funny

I got teased in junior school about my hair without the zoo bringing orangatangs into it. Fecks Sake! It's like an episode of South Park.

What would you say to someone who was getting teased for their Afro hair?

I think the Zoo didn't think it through very well but I'm not annoyed about it. I am annoyed at the pathetic discrimination from posters on this thread though. Even after a mod warning ye can't help yourselves. Nice.

Wow, wait a second here. What I said was not a reference to the colour of your hair, it was a reference to you complaining about teasing because of it.

I wear glasses, I got teased, I got over it. By posting on boards I would expect you to be mature enough to overlook petty teasing at red hair - for the love of god unless anyone was deliberately making your life a misery over it it's very miserable of you to make a fuss.

Not withstanding the above, I apologise if my previous post offended you.

Like someone else said in the thread earlier, I heard next month they are letting all black kids in for free, if anyone else wants to get in they just have to dress as monkeys...

I find the whole idea a bit offensive (as a red head)
