I have heard from unreliable sources that it can be unhealthy and dangerous to go for a low-carb diet. Is this true? And if so, are there any reliable sources saying so?

Started a no-carb diet today. I'll let you know if I survive.

Oh, come on, let's get into it. I'm doing 6 days of no carbs with a 24 hour carb-up each week. Calorie defecit too, etc.

    Am I gonna be okay?!

Are you doing one of those glycogen depletion workouts on the Friday or something?
Have to say that I find training a bit tougher going when I eat v. v. low carbs.

OP - low carb diets are not dangerous, many folks around here (esp on the nutrition & diet forum) follow a paleo style low carb diet, the aim of which is to replicate the diet of our ancestors by only eating anything that has run, walked, flown, swam (sp?) or grown in the ground (plus eggs)

Well if the source is "unreliable" why are you giving it any creedence?

Are you on a low-carb diet and worried about your health?

Beats the crap out of the high sugar, high transfat, high preservatives, high additives, high processed, low protein diet that the vast majority of the population are slowly killing themselves on.

I think low carb diets are good as any to lose weight. however a low carb diet will teach you about hidden sugars and nasty preservatives that you can avoid once you get to maintenace point. Low fat diets are so 1990's:D

Oh, whatcha mean? Like you'll still need to cut hidden sugary foods out of the low carb diet?

Yeah low carb makes you really examine the food you eat and it effects on your blood sugar so only by eating clean are you really low carbing. Changing to brown bread alone does not a low carber make!
