A mate I know who trains up in Carlisle Gym went back to his locker to find it was broken into and his Wallet, keys of Car and most of his clothes were gone. His Car was also stolen.

Be very weary lads. He talked to manager and they claimed not to be responsible....

Haven't talked to him since, so will hopefully find out more information...

He had his locker padlocked and someone cut the lock? or opened it somehow?
or did he leave his stuff in an unlocked locker? I feel sorry for him either way...
Was it at a quiet time, how did they find his car?
I'd be surprised anyone would have the nerve up there, you wouldn't know whose locker you were robbing!

Afaik he had his locker locked with the usual padlock...Don't know how they got his car, either they were watching him from beginning or he/they went along with his car fob clicking it to see if lights went off.....

All that was left was a towel and shoes afaik...Sickner...

This happens in every gym in Ireland on a regular basis unfortunately. Some join up to steal, some pay a guest fee to go in and steal.

    Scumbags.

Doubt the gym will be any use. For the laugh your friend should write in to Ben Dunne in the Sunday World I think it is he does a consumer page and without mentioning which gym it was ask his advice for getting compensated by the gym.

This does happen but thankfully not that often.

I live near the gym so shower at home but when using the gym I always had a small 'bum bag' which had my training journal and 'valuables' in it. Just safer.

I know the guy that this happened to and he was cleaned out!!!! How can people jsut walk into a gym and bust a locker without anyone seeing them and then leave with someone's possessions.. Apparently, this is not the first time this has happened there and members are not being warned and no additional security is in place to prevent it either!!!!!

    Makes you wonder........................

Happened a few times in TF blanch but stopped abruptly when certain people stopped usingthe place.

Members should be warned, the problem with additional security is what can be done? Imagine the outcry if putting camera's or a static guard in a changing room.

The best thing to do is use the strongest lock you can get to fit your locker and as the other poster said bringing a bum bag into the gym with you for the likes of, keys, phone, wallet etc.

Cameras or guards in the changing rooms isn't a good idea, but there's no reason why the lockers have to be in there. In my gym the lockers are visible from the workout area.

No I wouldn't be happy with cameras or guards in the changing rooms either but lockers should be in a visible area where there is some kind of security..... And how can you use a bum bag if you are going for a swim????????????? Impossible with the key fobs for cars today.....

Leave it at the side of the pool with your towel. Sorry I don't know the layout of the gym so can't comment on that venue in particular.
While I do feel sorry for the victim here the unfortunate reality is that just like walking down the street, all you can do is take preventative measures and take solice in the fact that 99% of people out there are decent folk who'd never dream of stealing from someone else but at the end of the day sh!t happens.

Not in the same vein as this at all but I had a pair of prescription goggles robbed off me from JS in town. Worth loads to me; zip to any gobshyte who tries to use them unless by some miracle of chance he happened to have the same eyesight as me. They were old as the hills too.
