Not looking for medical advice- looking for experiences of recovery from Arthroscopic surgery with the meniscus trimmed away.

i got this done two weeks ago- and i was wondering when people with this probelm went back to playing football / training. How long before they where pain free- when there swelling went down completely?

Did anyone ever have have problems even when they got the op?

    Thanks

    Mod Note

I am going to leave this open for now, but please keep to the topic of the OP.

There is to be absolutely no discussion around treatments, rehab exercises etc. This should be covered with the physio handling the OPs post op rehab.

So please stick to your experiences of
    • How long it took for the swelling to subside and for you to be pain free
    • How long before you were back in training/playing sports.
Again just to reiterate, any mention of treatments or recommending exercises will see these posts deleted and possibly the thread closed.

i had to get keyhole done on my knee after a rugby injury about 4 years ago, got the surgery done just when season was over and went back training full on for the pre season in about 2 months, with regard to swelling and pain i relaxed for 2 or 3 days and was able to go back working in a bar the next weekend and had no trouble standing and walking all night, i never have any trouble with it now except for it being a bit stiff in cold weather.
thats just my experience but best of luck to you and hope you have a speedy recovery

Going through for this at the moment for the second time. Its 7 weeks since I had the operation and I am still looking at another 5-6 weeks before I can start doing light jogging or anything kinda compound exercises. But I was back in the gym 2 weeks after the op and when the stitches came out. Am able to do cross trainer and bike as long as it is not climbing. 2 weeks ago I started doing weighted leg exercises such as the leg press and non weighted squats.

Best advice is to do leg exercises given to you by the physio in the hospital, usually for the first 2 weeks, then move to the gym. I did this and then went back for my check up 2 weeks ago, after the check up I got in touch with a physio in my gym and they are helping me along to recovery. I hope to be back running close to christmas with a return to competitive sport towards the end of january.

i dont know exactly how much but after the operation the surgeon told me it was worse than he thought originally from the MRI but even still after the operation i was told that he wouldn't need to see me again unless i was having trouble with it and i never have so have'nt talked to him since, i didnt do any exercise or gym work for a month or 2 after it until pre season started and managed to do all that ok, with the exception of the first few days after the surgery i didn't mind it at all i just went back to the way i always was, working farming walking around and its been perfect since
