These were mentioned by El Dangeroso in another thread as being nutritious, so I may start eating these again. Anyone have any opinions on black pudding?

Besides pig's blood, what other ingredients does a typical Irish black pudding have? What's the fat/protein/carb content?

A traditional black pudding consits of a blend of onions, pork fat, oatmeal, flavourings - and blood. It is rich in iron and zinc, two nutrients that are frequently missing in the diet of the average adult.

Are they not full of salt?

Not if you make them yourself;)

You need to look at nutritional content of the black pudding you buy really, you'll get different values in deifferent brands. Generally, I don't think they are full of salt anyhow.

Oh man I love black pudding. A bit of salt isn't bad in the context of a diet that's overall based on healthy freshly prepared wholefoods anyway. Blood is very nutritious.

Even though it is nutritious, I actually don't like black pudding. I've had czech blood sausage that's much nicer.

Do try to get pudding that's locally produced by a butcher though, rather than supermarket stuff if you can just to limit the number of additives.
