I've recently decided to eat healthy. I am sick of eating junk food, I want to eat food that will give me lots of energy without it being bad for me. So my question is has anyone got any suggestions as to what I should eat for a healthy lunch/dinner. (I already eat a healthy breakfast) . I seem to be finding it really hard to find a filling, healthy lunch/dinner!

Read the stickies both here and in the diet and nutrion forum.

If in doubt then, post on D&N forum.

It's a bit hard giving you suggestions when we don't know what food you like or if you have any allergies. Can you tell us what you're eating at the moment? Maybe we can start from there and give you advice. Tell us what you eat on a typical day, including breakfast.

Might be worth checking out the Diet & Nutrition forum also.

Oh sorry, I do not have any allergies. On a normal day, for breakfast I would have a bowl of special k, a glass of orange juice and an apple. For lunch I would have a small roll with hot chicken with mayonaise and maybe a
small glass of coke or orange juice. I do not eat dinner so
that is where it goes downhill for me, I hate vegetables, and a lot
of other foods. If I was to eat dinner i'd eat cottage pie. I know my diet is awful, i am not getting the vitamins/nutrients I need. I am getting very worried about what my diet is doing on me. I have no energy and always tired . So advice would be very much appreciated.

    you poor thing!

Take it slow and change one meal at a time. ie work on BF and once you've that sorted working on lunch etc

Try adding some eggs to start.

Don't worry, even the longest journey start with a smallest step.

I'll try that! But the thing is I honestly don't know what to have for lunch/dinner that will provide me with the nutrients my body needs. I couldn't tell you the last time I had dinner too. When it comes to lunchtime also I do not have the time to make anything so I end up buying from the deli in my local shop. I just feel hopeless with my diet! I am in no way over weight I am about 8 and a half stone and I'm about 5ft 3 , so I am not looking to loose weight, just a good balanced diet for life.

Your breakfast wouldn't be very healthy either. Special K is full of sugar and has the nutritional value of a cardboard box.

You have no fat or protein for breakfast, only carbs. You have more carbs for lunch, with the only protein coming from the chicken. Depending on what type of chicken it is (ie. breaded chicken fillets from a deli) there might not even be that much protein in the chicken. Once again no fats. As for your dinner, cottage pie isn't the worst, but would be only carbs and protein.

I think, and it's only my opinion, that the reason you don't have much energy and feel tired is because you eat too many carbs and not enough protein, and definitely not enough fat.

If I were you I'd have porridge with a couple of eggs (boiled, poached, scrambled, omelettes) for breakfast. Skip the orange juice. If you really like it, you'd be better off eating a whole orange instead. And as for the apple, it's a healthy choice, but I'd maybe have it as a snack in between meals, as the porridge and eggs should fill you up.

Have a read of the stickies here and on the Diet & Nutrition forum, they'll give you ideas for lunch and dinner.

Oh and make sure you're drinking at least 2 litres of water a day.

I'm no expert...but. Id say try figure what veg you do like and make a homemade soup, it will be packed with nutrients also fishcakes would also be pretty good if you pack them out with good stuff (carrots onion sweetcorn parsley) should not have much of a veggie taste along side the fish of choice. I know you said time is against you, but it will be worth it, you'll probably save a fortune too.

Thanks very much guys! Frogdog, I think you're spot on! I just feel that I'm really odd because the list is endless of the foods I don't like. So I definately have to start tasting more foods because I simply cannot go on with the diet I have, friends and family are always giving out to me for it. As for the porridge, I hate it! I just find it really disgusting, it's just the texture and taste. I'm not sure if i could force myself to eat it. Is there anything else I could have? Sorry I'm probably really annoying yous.

    Sorry, meant to reply earlier.

You could try adding things into your porridge to make it taste different (fruit, seeds, yoghurt, small bit of honey, etc). Or if you had some form of eggs for your breakfast that would be a great start also.

And don't worry about the questions, keep them coming! :D
