Well just came in here to see if there was any activity still here.

After reading through "Carlton hints..." and spotted someone saying that they were watching Lost for the first time.

So i'm just wondering are there any first timers around the place and how far along are you?

Mmm...I'd tell them to skip most of season 5 and go straight to season 6. Probably bits of season 3 that could be done without too...ah well.

I seriously envy anyone watching it for the first time :P Such a great series and personally I loved Season 6 and the Final, I thought it ended perfectly. Agree though that a lot of Season 3 could of been done without.

I'd absolutely love to watch Lost again for the first time. Enjoyed every minute of the show and the hate for season 6 is exaggerated imo.

I only did it earlier in the year, finished about a month ago. Simply couldn't get enough of it, and is without a doubt the best tv series I've ever watched. If I had to pick a season to skip, it would be 5. Season 6 was stunningly tense & well done, & the finale I felt was really fitting.

Can't wait to do another run through, but like all shows/films, the first time is the best - so relish every single minute of it. It will be gone before you know it. I was watching 4 & 5 episodes a night at one point

Just curious, who was your favourite character?

I'm not even that surprised that you'd watch 4 episodes a night at some stages as when i was doing the rewatch before season 6 I'd nearly do something similar and i'd already seen all the episodes.

Glad it wasn't just me then :pac: Regards favourite characters, I'd have to say all of them. I know it's a bit fan-boyish, but apart from the the couple who stole the diamonds (can't remember names as I've only done one run through), the acting was top notch from every single one of them. Hurley, Sawyer, Jack, Ben, Desmond arrgh it's impossible to choose one :D

I rememer watching some of season one's finale, being confused, but hooked at the same time. Missed the opening for season 2 and didnt pick it back up until mid-season 3.

So there was a LOT of things mentioned and referenced that i really had no idea about. Adam and eve for example.

But when season 5 ended i picked up all 5 seasons for 50 quid and done a watch through of all 103 episodes in 14 days when i was bed ridden with a bad sickness.

I literally couldnt get enough of it. I would wake at 9, have dry toast, put on 3/4 episodes.
That would lead nicely up until around lunch when i would eat dry toast with soup. ;)

Try and have a read of the paper, mooch around the internet and then at about 4/5 would look at a few more episodes.

Even though i knew what the resolutions were to some mysteries like Henry Gale, Eko etc, it was a thrilling ride to see what i never knew about.

I can't wait to be sick again to do it again from 1-6 and try to do that in two weeks. :D

I actually got that wrong, It was 59.99 in HMV in drogheda.
I remember seeing it, i had 3 series' of family guy in my hand all totaling up to about €70.

They went straight back on the shelf!

This was when the 1-5 set had been out about a month or so at that stage.

    I picked up the Complete Seasons§ 1 - 6 on DVD for €34..

.. so I'm looking forward to rewatching it over Christmas.

Now just need to sell my Region 1 copy of Season 1.

Fraid it's not available anymore (was only available for a short time on Saturday evening)... best price online is about £50 but picked it up for £27.99 delivered from this crowd.

Am convinced it was a misprice since it's went back up to £79.99 since.

I'd be tempted to get the box-set on bluray if it didn't cost €200
Although surely the early seasons wouldn't have been shot in HD?
Also if I hadn't already rewatched the whole thing twice already... and if they hadn't ruined everything by making season 6.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,200 ✭✭✭✭Basq

    DonkeyStyle..

The Blu-ray boxset has been available for €100 a couple of times online.

It's under €110 delivered from Zavvi right now: http://www.zavvi.com/blu-ray/lost-seasons-1-6-complete-box-set/10270630.html

Not to get too much into it.. but just because it wasn't broadcast in HD means nothing.

Even movies filmed in 1960 were filmed in a format with an even greater resolution than Blu-ray.

In that case, let the good times roll :pac:

Watch it, and don't have high expectations, then you will be pleasantly surprised. A lot of people seemed disappointed with the end because they didn't discover the meaning of life or something from watching it. Don't expect anything more than mere entertainment and you'll get exactly that, good entertainment.

    I agree.

Watch it and dont think that there isnt an ending, there is.
Engross yourself in every minor detail of each characters personality and you will find it extraordinarily entertaining.

After seeing the pilot of Lost around 3 weeks ago, i started watching all the episodes. I was pleasantly surprised with how friggin awesome the series is.

Hmm...Lost kind of changed the face of drama television and watching the entire show for the first time was really great. So what would one expect to see, when they have 'high expectations' that could disappoint them? I can't imagine anyone watching a TV series to find 'the meaning of life'. Lost depicts human nature, choices people make, faith etc. It isn't written by God so watching a show to find answers to those questions seems kind of silly.

All episodes :D 3 to 4 every night and complete marathons on my off days and weekends. Just couldn't stop watching after i saw the pilot (i just wanted to know what the series was about, really). Season 5 and 6 were tough ones, got kind of "Lost sick". Stories like
    The entire Black Rock episode
were hard to watch, haha. But it was all worth it. Ending made my day.

Well done on doing a marathon! It is THE greatest show to watch in such a format.
I think people get really annoyed with the ending because of how if you were watching week by week, sometimes you get 3 weeks apart without any development to a certain arc of the story.

So frustration of not being able to just press 'title menu, next ep, play' and find out was tough. Especially when some (myself included) went out and bought seasons 1-4 and powered through them. When season 5 came and an ep ended it was hard to feel like that was my fill for the week.
I can only imagine how when the final ended that some still wanted to feel as if there was a way to skip to the next episode and uncover the mystery of what happened.
Because the final does finish, in a way, on a mystery.

Thats what i think when someone says they expected it to give them the meaning of life etc.

    Glad you enjoyed it. :)
    Any particular moments of interest?

I haven't a clue what it was that some people expected from it, but if you read the posts that were made here about the finale, they were expecting something way beyond what was reasonable to expect from a TV show, no matter how entertaining it was. There were a few who even claimed that the ending ruined the whole show for them! All the entertainment they had for the previous 6 years, wiped out because the ending didn't deliver whatever it was that they were expecting  Work that one out if you can... (For the record, I enjoyed the show up to and including the end, but then, all I expected from it was to be entertained, and it achieved that easily).

Just a heads up for anyone wondering were to watch it, it's on the American version of Netflix. All 6 series.

I just decided to put on the pilot one day and ever since I've been hooked. Only on series 5 though.

And yeah, The Constant is still one of the best episodes, if not THE best.

I miss this show more than I can put into words. Every single season had its qualities and was able to stand independently as fantastic television.

In terms of my favourite season, I have to choose Season 5. Reading through this thread I noticed a lack of love for it but I found it the most compelling.

It frustrates me greatly when people didn't actually realise the ending.

Thinking back on it now it is one of the most profoundly sad shows of all time. I don't think that anything will ever come close to it in terms of sheer quality and entertainment.

Re-watched LAX there a few days ago. Remember when jack grabbed the seat and Rose was all
"Its ok... you can let go now." And then Bernard came back from the bog and she was like "I missed you" to him.
I had one of those: :eek: She KNEW! moments. So im making my way back through the series to see what other little things i missed on my first (and second) watch throughs. :)

    Seriously, what a show.

I loved Season 5 too and all that time travel stuff. The idea from the Constant where you didn't physically travel back in time but just in your mind was never done before, just brilliant.

A lot of viewers were/still are extremely angry about how it ended, and I would agree they might have ended it better. It's not a perfect show, but in terms of a show where you just can't wait till the next episode and have endless permutations to how things could play out, no other show comes close. Add to that some amazing actors and performances with great writing, beautiful settings, interesting themes, the wonderful music, and equal amounts of pure headfcuk and powerfully emotional scenes.

Yeah we have shows like the Wire, Breaking Bad etc, which are tighter from a writing/realism point of view, but they'll never hold the same grip on me as Lost did. I'm going to wait maybe another year before re-watching the entire series, want to kind of forget as much as I can so I can watch it with as fresh eyes as possible.

While I agree with pretty much everything you say, I have to say that Breaking Bad is a fantastic show!

The way I see this is that Breaking Bad and the Wire are fantastic shows, and are telling a story.

But Lost gripped the imagination because it had that not-quite-realism that allowed you to imagine all sorts happening, and the mystery elements kept you guessing.

Just finished series 6 there now. The first 2 seasons are the best but that's not to say the rest aren't good. Loved the second half of series 5 in dharma vill as well. Season 6 felt as though they had no idea how to tie everything up so they just rushed up an ending and went with it. The only episode I really enjoyed in season 6 was the one with the submarine blowing up as it had a great but emotional ending. The rest was okay but seasons 1-5 were just seemed so superior.

I remember Lost. Watched the whole six season. In hindsight it was rubbish. Fairplay for dupping people into watching each week in the hope of answering all the questions posed, but no, nothing.

even now i get riled that i waste som much time watching this crap

Seriously? You watched six seasons of a TV show despite not being entertained for any of it in the hopes of an entertaining ending? Why? Would it not have made more sense to skip it if it wasn't entertaining?

Yeah, first season was ok but it was so frustrating week in week out. And as i said, in hindsight i would not have bothered watching it.

Thats just my opinion, maybe others found the show to be entertaining but not me. I dont know how anyone could watch it back or get the boxset. There is far superior tv out there. The wire, the sopranos, breaking bad, game of thrones, homeland which are all worthy of a few bob

I do find it amazing that so many people watched the show to the very end despite thinking that it sucked. We used to see this week in, week out while the show was on air. People were always complaining about how annoying the characters were and how stupid the show was. And yet they all watched to the end because they believed the ending was going to reveal something so profound that it would make the previous 5 seasons good.

Look, if you watched a show that you thought was crap for that long then you need to seriously ask yourself why. I loved the ending (with reservations), but even if it had sucked (like BSG's did), it still wouldn't have changed my opinion of the show as a whole.

Watched the whole thing on Lovefilm over last three months. Had initially watched the first three series when they were aired but stopped watching for various reasons, mainly cos I went travelling.

Overall, I was entertained. I'm glad it's over as I've had my fill. The ending didn't disappoint me too much because I never expected to get all the answers.

    Positives:

    - A likeable cast for the main part and trying to guess who was 'good' and who was 'bad'.
    - The cliffhangers that would result in me thinking, 'one more episode'.
    - The locations were often pretty stunning.

    Negatives:

    - The corny, sappy dialogue at times. Was often quite easy to guess what the characters were going to say next.
    - The music didn't do it for me. Too many strings, way too syrupy. Maybe it would have been ok if they had just used it a bit more sparingly.
    - The start of the fifth series,
the flashforward/backward in time and the nosebleeds. Though I quite enjoyed the extended 70's period.
I would have liked the Dharma story to have been fleshed out a little more.

I will never understand this attitude. After watching this show for 4, maybe 5 episodes, you should come to the conclusion that they will never give the answers to everything. I realised this and worked off the assumption that I would never get answers to anything - any that were revealed were a bonus.

It was a compelling show from start to finish - I miss it and it will be a long time before anything grabs my attention like it again unfortunately :(

Looking for new tv shows to watch after finishing season 2 of Game of Thrones, I was quite young when Lost came out first so never really understood it, I think I watched series 1 then forgot about it, don't remember a thing about it now! After reading this thread I've decided to start it again from scratch, here's to hoping I enjoy it!

I've seen all of LOST before but I've just introduced my girlfriend to it for the first time. We've just finished season 1 and she's as hooked as I am. Can't wait to show her the first episode of S2 tonight - one of my favourite moments of the whole show!

Just started season 4.. I watched the first two season when it was on tv but ended up getting frustrated with it.. Started watching it again from the start there a few weeks ago and totally hooked on it now..

Enjoy! I find that the cliffhanger series endings don't quite have the same punch when you can just pop in the next disc, but it's still very enjoyable! :D

Also, anyone that goes to see "This is 40", there's a lot of mentions of Lost there, and little bits of footage, and some of the music! But if you've not seen the finale, it'll spoil it on you! :D
