    Hey guys,

Really upset after reading my payslip due to an unusual tax.

I am being taxed on top of PAYE, im paying (8% of total wages) for Employee PRSI and strangely another PRSI, called Employers PRSI.

I thought you pay Employee PRSI and Employer passes it on from Government.

Is my employer allowed to take an Employer PRSI from me also? Its quite a steep amount.

Employer PRSI is paid by the Employer, not by you. The Employer PRSI is noted on your payslip, but it does not come out of your Gross Pay. PAYE and Employee PRSI are deducted from your Gross Pay.

They are not. At least they should not be. Go to the payroll department and ask them to explain it to you.

Are you absolutely certain? Have you manually subtracted your other deductions (Employee's PRSI, Income Levy, PAYE) from your Gross Pay, and does that figure differ from your Net Pay by the amount of the Employer's PRSI?

In the unlikely event that they are taking it, talk to HR, should be a simple thing to fix

Guys theyre actually taking it and i emailed and theyre avoiding the thing. Theres my initial pay-Employee PRSI 8% - Employer PRSI 10.75% - Income Levy = Net Pay

They should not be. So I would go to payroll (no email, physically go) and ask them to explain it to you. What they are doing is illegal and you will have to be reimbursed.

If you wanted to put your gross pay and tax credits up I can give you a rough guide as to what your net pay should be.

    Very strange...

If what you say is true I suspect you do not get a payslip from a payroll software system, as this would not be possible. Do you get a payslip written up on Word do you know?

It could be a genuine mistake, although I'd be suspicious by their lack of contact.
