Magazine subscriptions from the US

I'm an American living in ireland and I love getting magazines through the post by subscriptions. I can't get used to the prices charged by magazines in the UK and Ireland for subscription services though.

So I have to recommend to look at US magazine publishers homepages and see how much they charge for an international subscription. For example, I just order Woman's Day mag, 15 mth subscription to Ireland for only $35. That is less than €30 for a good magazine similar to woman's mags you would find here. http://www.womansday.com/

I had a subscription previously to Digital Photo Pro. 7 mths for $35 to Ireland http://www.digitalphotopro.com/

And my fave is Vanity Fair although it's expensive at $68 for 12 mths. https://magazine.vanityfair.com/ecom/subscribe.jsp?oppId=4100009&emailList=&tgt=/atg/registry/RepositoryTargeters/VYF/VYF_global_navBar

Generally though, you can get some good deals from US magazine publisher's websites.

i do the same with car magazines i paid $60 for 2 years subscription post to me every month, i even get free magazines from the same publisher the same time, 60 euro would nearly get me 6 months mags over here

I just go directly to the publisher - i get 6 womens magazines from the US each month, ranging from $32-45 per year, each of those magazines are in Easons for €6-7 per month.
Last year when i renewed one magazines I got 2 others for a year at a cost of only $5 each - mind you I didn't renew either of them this year!

no idea what a shill is. must be too old (36) or it's just lost in translation. will excuse your rudeness though because it is probably an insult.

Do you have a site for the publishers. Used to love US magazines and would love to subscribe again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 127 ✭✭newbridgemom

I usually Google a magazine name I'm interested in. It will give you a link for the homepage. Then click on the subscriptions link from the homepage. It should give you an option for international subscriptions if they are offered. If you want a general look at a magazine website, look at
    http://www.thenewmagazinecity.com/
    http://www.magazines.com

But these kind of sites usuallly have higher prices than the publisher's own sites. Google the specific mag and order from their own site.

the zinio app for ipad or laptops has some great deals for subs.
Got spin for $8 and uncut for £20 a year.

Magazine subscriptions can make very good Christmas presents if you know someone buys one of these magazine for themselves in the shop every week.

My aunt loves Oprah magazine (I know...cringe). It was costing her over €72 a year. I got her a subscription of it for a year for 28euro delivered last year and she loved it. Same with a friend who likes the US Marie Claire. Both of them have asked me in the last few weeks how they renew it themselves this year.
This publisher caters for magazines popular with girls and mammies:

I'm amazed anyone buys magazines anymore I find that the info in them is minimum 2 months out of date and that anything I'm actually interested in I already know in more detail.

Here is a list of some movie mags
    http://www.world-newspapers.com/film-magazines.html
    http://www.mondotimes.com/2/topics/5/entertainment/79

I don't think they offer coupon codes usually. But you could try googling the mag name and coupon code.

For UK magazines you can purchase many of them cheaper through Amazon.co.uk

I'd like a discount to the US version of 'Wired' if anyone can help?!

I didn't know about UK subs on amazon.co.uk. But aren't they only deliverable to UK addresses and not ROI? For example, I'd like to get this for my husband, but it says UK and Northern Ireland addresses only http://www.amazon.co.uk/History-Subscription-Gift-Pack-issues/dp/B001J31LVO/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1288865035&sr=8-11

I just presumed that it was ok. I know the US one explicitly states that they don't sell them to folk outside of the US but I don't see anything similar on the UK site.

    You're right actually!! Sorry!!

"Magazine subscriptions can only be delivered to addresses in the UK and Northern Ireland (not including BFPO addresses). "

A shill or plant is a person who helps another person or organization to sell goods or services without disclosing that he or she has a close relationship with the seller

happy with this thread, picked up a sub for Atlantic, thanks o.p

I'd also like a cheap subscription to Wired or something similar. Amazon.com have 2 years for $20 and can't purchase from the .com website. wired.com have 1 year for $70 outside of the US!

Want to get Digital Camera myself, but the price is like £76 or so. :(

Bit much, isn't it? I think the mags themselves are €7 a month anyway?

I think I paid €5.85 for Digital Camera in Tesco.

I'm saving money by buying it in Tesco (a fair bit of money at that, too).

How about using a mail forwarding service from the US?

MyUS.com is very good for parcels. Although at first glance they don't have a cheaper rate than $20.69 for small parcels.

I'm sure there are some services to forward magazines.Anybody know of any??

I'd a Wired (US hard copy) sub and just cancelled. October issue was on sale in the local shop October 1st, arrived in the post November 3rd. Their shipping (via Pitney Bowes) is awful.
