Reps over Weight for Endurance Strength?

Essentially for something like MMA where one would need strength over long periods of time and with the objective of decreasing the body's lactic acid build up would it be better suited to do more reps with lighter weight?
I ask because currently I am lifting very heavy with low reps and I find I have a great burst of strength but that I tire quicker. I feel that having less strength but strength that lasts over a longer period would be more beneficial but I am just wondering if my theory (that higher reps, lower weight will create endurance strength) is nonsense?

I was also wondering would it be possible to mix it up in order to achieve explosiveness as well as endurance strength i.e do 2-4 reps of max weight followed by sets of 15-20 reps of lower weight? Or is the muscle only really suited to being one of two things : explosive or endurance?

    Does that even make sense?
