Anyone been to this new restaurant? Can you tell me if vegetarians ( two of the party are non-meat eaters but still want to try the place out!!) are well catered for being that it is advertised as a steakhouse? And anyone got contact details for them, I can't find anything anywhere!!

I was there and wasn't impressed. Myself and my wife both got burgers and they were very dry, way overcooked. Didn't notice any vegetarian section of the menu (that's not to say there wasn't one...)

Oh no, we had such high hopes. To be honest, the fact that I cannot find a website or contact number and now have a not very good review is pushing them off the likely list!
    Thank you.

Hang on! You went to a "Steak House" and had a burger??
And the op wants to bring vegetarians to the said "Steak House"?

Anyway I'm from Naas and I haven't tried it myself but I have heard good reports about the place. Every town needs a steak house and I really hope it lives up to expectations. I hope the steaks will be good and reasonably priced but more importantly - I hope the wine is not overpriced as it so usually is in these places. I'll let you know on Monday.

Heres some more 2nd hand info for you. I was talking to some friends of mine just after they ate there a couple of weeks ago. They said it was great and they'd definitely go back. They ate some type of steak there, I can't remember which.

So we ventured down for lunch today, there is a very small lunch menu at very reasonable prices. Veggies not catered for other than toasted special without the ham, veg soup or salmon bake I'm afraid. My big complaint - we waited almost 30 minutes from ordering to getting our food. We got unlucky and the place literally filled up around us and it seemed the kitchen simply couldn't cope. The food was good, not amazing but the prices were very reasonable, I had a wrap, chips and salad, the rest of the group had a 1/4 pounder and chips, and a chicken baggette and chips, along with soup and a sandwich for the veggie and I think the most paid was €8.95.

All that said, we work in Naas and feel we would go back, the food was perfectly fine and we won't judge them by a busy and wet Friday lunchtime!! I had a chance to check out the evening time menu while I was there and it looks just amazing, again very reasonable prices, veggies well catered for and lots of choice if a giant steak is not your thing!

    been there last week...
decor very glitzty........food very ordinary.....service slow but friendly to be fair.
there are many better restaurants in the town....but if its style rather than quality food your after i suppose it at least ticks that box!

Been to Angus Joes Steakhouse 4 times since its opening and cant understand how the above Chef4 could have seen all he posted about the chef carry on in the kitchen etc, no way could he have managed to see from where the toilets are... I think he could be making the whole lot up, we found the whole experience fantastic, from the minute we walked in the door the friendly staff met us and escorted us to our very stylish decorated table and surroundings , our choice of food from both the lunch time and evening menu really appealed to us but i guess this is a personal thing and you cant please everyone all the time but boy they go real close to it. The ambiance was lovely and we def will be going back again and soon as can jst taste the cesar chicken salad as i type....

How long were you looking in the kitchen for?

I mean - it would take more than a couple of seconds for any chef to do all this! - Did you just stand tehre and stare - or are you being a little zealous with your staement?

Were you so close as to see everything - or is it what you WANTED to see in order to moan.?

Are you an expert in food hygeine?

If the owners of the restaurant saw this, they would have a very good case for a defamtion action against both yourself & boards - matbe your post should be deleted??

Methinks you have a personal issue with a competitor (you only have 4 posts - 3 of which are about this!) and whilst I don't like people upping a business they have an interest in I really despise those who blatantly and wrongly accuse a place of malpractice.

The gereral consensus in the area is that its a decent casual dining place. A step up from Gourmet Burger and an ideal casual night out for a bite to eat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 492 ✭✭Major Lovechild

Right! I was there last weekend and I am happy to say it was most enjoyable.
The ribeye steak was lovely - really full of flavour and the wine was not too pricey. The waiter even recommended the wine which was cheaper than my original choice. Fair play.
The staff were attentive and genuinely friendly. The place was clean and bright and I seriously think that the negative comments from the chefs4 poster are more than likely just competitive libel and he/she should know better.
On the downside just one small point. I like my steak to bleed so if you like the same you better order blue instead of rare as they slightly overcook. Other than that - it hit the spot. Will be back there next week.

I think if the person saw health hazards then its in everyones interest to know about them.
We will have to take him at his word . But such practices should be reported here maybe.

    gleeber sitebanned for shilling.

chefs4, as you're clearly in the catering business, you should be well aware that any food safety issues should be reported to the FSAI, and yet you chose to badmouth the establishment here without mentioning whether or not you had done that. Any particular reason why that is? If you have an affiliation to a rival establishment you should make that known so that others may judge the credibility of your posts.

And this is why places have to take legal action against defamatory statements.

chefs4 probably has a motive for saying these things, but has no proof. - Read his post and work out how long you need to be watching for everything he says. - It just doesn't add up.

Its a very clear case of defamation without any proof and as such I really think his post should be deleted.

You'd be really suprised at how well a lot of "meaty" places cater for veggies. I was reluctant to try GBK when it first opened, thinking it would be yet another "veggie" burger. They have the best choice of veggie food I've seen in a burger place ever! (I know steak house and burger place are 2 different things but you know what I mean)
    queenm wrote: »

If they offered your veggie companion salmon as an option then veggies are not well catered for at all. Salmon is not vegetarian and restaurants should know this. If offered fish as a veggie option anywhere I usually leave as to me it shows a shocking lack of knowledge on the part of a chef/management.

I actually only noticed it last tuesday evening, passing it on the bus. It looks really nice and I was hoping to give it a try. Although it sounds like there might not be much choice for akward me. :o Do you happen to remember what type of veggi things on the menu?

I love places where the staff are nice and friendly! I'm torn on whether to give here a try or not.

Took another trip into Angus Joes again on monday night for a family meal, the food is fab, i love the place, I could stay there all night just looking at the black and white photos,Audrey Hepburn,Grace kelly- it so classy- went there for the first time on Saturday night with the girls, if you've not tried you definitely should and as for the cocktail bar- a wow factor.I was a vegetarian in a steak house

What sort of choice did you have?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2 fiona barrett

Choice was pretty good, can't remember the full menu but know I couldn't decided between a few things,so it wasn't like I had to choose one thing,a friend of mine wanted a pasta dish with cream can't remember the name in the menu, but it came with bacon but they made it for her without the bacon.the staff were very helpful & I think if you saw something you'd like without meat it wouldn't be a problem.I noticed a veg burger on the menu, haven't tried it yet!! Next time, the chips are nice big chucky ones,I ordered one for the kids, had to get them another one,I ate them...

I've have been to this restaurant 3 times, love the food!!

The only issues I have are with the service which I think is mainly due to inexperience. The waiting staff who know what they are doing are brilliant, the rest need intense training!!

I would still recommend it, we've always been looked after.

I don't work there and I'm not family but I do know they got a visit from health inspector recently. They can't have found anything wrong if they are still open!?!

Probably not the first place youd think of for breakfast to be fair, and Im not sure Naas would have a roaring trade at that hour of the morning anyway.

We ate at Angus Joes on Friday night. It was busy, and just a little chaotic in terms of getting everyone seated (we didn't have a reservation).

You would think being a steakhouse and having a name like "Angus Joe's", it would have something like a wild west theme, but in fact is was less "Dodge City" and more "Sex and the City", with a black, white and pink colour scheme, and quite a New York feel to it.

Anyway, the food was good, though the two glasses of wine I had (at c. €6 a pop) were definitely a bit smaller than what you normally get in a restaurant.

Anyone got a contact number? searched online but cant seem to kind one.

    Thanks
    W.

    There phone number is (045)988595.

I have been there twice and really liked it both times. I loved their chicken wings (starter) and steaks (had fillet yesterday and striploin the first time). The ice cream was very nice. The other half had king prawns on a bed of noddles and enjoyed it. The menu is very large and there are a good few non steak items on it which tempted my (like the curry) but it is a steak house. Cant remember if there was much veggie meals on the menu but as I said it was a long menu. I was there yesterday afternoon with the family and we had a lovely time. Naas needed a steak house.

Down sides: You have to pay extra for the sauce with the steak (1€ I think). And it was also a bit quiet yesterday, but that suited us TBH as we had a baby and small child with us and was great no to be sitting right beside someone else and annoying them.

The menu we had on Friday night had the price for the sauces crossed out, and I don't think we were charged for the sauce on my steak.

went in there today to try.

    Not impressed at all

The waitress a blonde middle aged woman made us feel like we where not welcome and it was a complete pain for her to even show us to our seats.
Gave us the menu and left us for 15 mins in an near empty restaurant while she was chating to her mates.

Never even got a chance to try the food and my other half insisted we leave.

    crap house.

Was looking at that post. Wanted to go but it was closed at 4.30. But will be back during opening hours for sure. I hear the tapas bar close to the House of James is good also.

The Tapas Bar is not bad at all. It's called Las Radas and it is more about the atmosphere than the grub but that said it's cheap and cheerful.

I was there only the other week with my wife and two small kids - it wasn't especially busy when we arrived but again, like someone else said above, that suited us because no parent likes having their kids annoying everyone around them. It did fill up a bit while we were there though.

The food was very good, almost excellent. As an example, my kids both had pasta, and my three-year-old finished his even though it was a massive portion and he's normally a very picky eater, so hats off to them for that.

The one slight drawback I would note is in relation to the woman that was referred to above (blonde, slightly older than 40 and possibly Eastern European??). She was brusque, which is no crime, but she was also quite slow, although I didn't notice her gabbing "with her mates" as was mentioned. However, that's the only adverse mention I could make as the other staff made up for it.

Otherwise, its exellent - a good selection of food, reasonably comprehensive wine list which is keenly priced when compared to the competition, and a very warm and inviting atmosphere...

We do need something like this in Naas at the moment, and I'm delighted that there's a (relatively) cheap option open to people who want a good, relaxed night out on the main street. Long may it last!

PS - I have absolutely no affiliations to anyone involved in this business. I just don't want to see yet another To Let sign on the street...

I am a customer to this restaurant, I work in naas and have come in on a regular basis for lunch. I have never had a problem with the service or or staff but then again a business can never please everyone. I was just looking for a website for angus joes and i found these posts. I cant believe people would waste their time commenting and bad mouthing a business, i don`t think these comments will have an effect on regular customers....

We were there again recently for a family celebration, they put our large group upstairs, and we had another very good meal (though we were restricted to the €30 3-course set menu). Staff were very good, very friendly and entusiastic.

i was there on valentines night and the food was great and the staff were so nice, the girl she was irish and was had worked in il fico she was telling us i had serving us ive never had a more polite and friendly waitress id go back for that alone as too many just throw food at you in restaurant these days.
the food isnt the cheapest around but its okay and i did like the decor but i love the audrey hepburn era and can understand why some are not a fan.
i would go back, as for the hygiene i cant say i noticed anything to be worried about place and toilets and kitchen all seemed very clean and i would say it is hard to pick up all that from the stairs.
one thing i didn't like it was a set menu and for dessert they had a trio down and they made us share it - in fairness i was full but i thought it was a bit mean to do that as it wasnt a cheap set meal and i did figure out in my head it was cheaper to get all separately so that was a minus for me
I'll go back, but there's so many good enough restaurants in naas it may be a while.
been to back bar at ballymore eustace inn and i have to say im so going back there they've improved so much since i was last there 2 yrs ago food was to die for
so mines is a mixed review for angus steakhouse

I live in Naas and was looking forward to a meal in Angus Joes so myself and my friend visited the restaurant recently. Food was nice......service appauling!!
Its wasnt busy but the staff were unfriendly, uninterested, got the order wrong and were extremly slow, so bad was the service we complained whilst settling the bill the manager apologised and said she hoped we would return again.....not a chance!

This thread should be locked as some people are getting too close to defaming this business. I've eaten there, its a steak and burger joint, well priced and service to match. But that's my opinion and restaurant eating is very subjective. There are places I despise which others will wow about and vice versa, thats the nature of the game. Some of the posts here are clearly meant to damage someone's business and leave more people looking for jobs. It's disgusting and despicable and my guess is not one of those people has even the slightest professional knowledge of food.

The mode should have a good look through this thread and delete any posts that are obviously aimed at damaging a good business.

    I disagree.

The only dodgey posts are from new regs and its evenly split on attempts to defame or promote the business. The rest are from boards regulars and long time members with considerable posts behind them.

If you view another thread here about Indian food, you will note that some posters that promote a certain restaurant in Naas, have never posted about anything else.

Ultimately if any of us want an honest opinion of any establishment, we must try it ourselves.

    100% disagree

Why should peoples experiences be censored?
This is a very public forum for people to talk about things exactly like bad service or food.

I would rather read it here than blow 60 euro finding it out the hard way.

You dont need to be an expert to know that being left sitting, without a menu for 15 mins in an empty steak house is really bad service and when the menu eventually comes, it comes with a smirk and not a smile.

Why should I not be able to tell this story? How is it disgusting and despicable..?

Any decent eating establishment would have read this months ago and improved things. I hope they have .

I know there's a lot of opinions about this restaurant here but I thought I'd give my experience! The first time I ate there, apart from the really slow service, I had no other complaints-good food, place very well decorated.
I have been back there a handful of times since and I still find the food very appetizing and well presented. The only negatives I found are the slow service (waited half an hour for an order to be taken once!) and a few encounters of unfriendly staff.
I would recommend trying the place out yourself though, and treating yourself to one of their amazing cocktails! ;)
Everyone makes their own opinions, my mother wont set foot inside Angus Joes because she sent food back when it was inedible and the chef was very rude in return..but then again there's good and bad reviews about every single place serving food!
