Does anyone know if RTE are planning to go HD with any of their channels. They seem to be lagging behind the competition in so many avenues!

    Not really ... Which Competition.

RTE 2 will be part time first, maybe Dec 2010 to Feb 2011
Then over the next three years RTE2, RTE1, TG4 and probably last TV3.

A lot of programs will be upscalled or else pointless in HD anyway ALL explained here (link)

    TV3 and TG4 aren't HD either.

It will be end of 2012 before N.I. gets ANY UK terrestrial HD.

I can't wait for hurling in HD, going to be so much better to watch.

    Hey Oteera,

RTÉ have a number of problems that they have had to over come before launching a HD channel. RTÉ are planning a HD channel for spring 2011, which will be made free-to-air via terrestrial means and may not appear on any cable or satellite network until 2012.

The competitors that you are talking about are billion pound multi-nations or well funded public service broadcasters.

That is why they are probably right only to go with actual HD programmes rather than a full schedule until more programmes can be produced in HD.

One shared HD channel would suffice in during the initial periods.

Officially yes, but there are various rumours which may well have a ring of truth to them.
