    Hey folks,

Just a quick question regarding strengh loss.
I resently took a week off training, Heavest thing I lifted all week was a 12 inch pizza and man did I feel good after that :D

Went back to the gym last night and tried to continue my squats at the same weight I left off at the week before and for dear life I just couldnt knock out 5*5.

My reps looked something like this: 4/3/1/5(put on belt at this stage) and 0, a big fat 0 for the last set, complete failure went ATG and just could not stir.

If I had knocked it out I would have squated 1.7BW but failed.

    Any advise welcome.

You shouldn't expect any muscle shrinkage after a week. In fact I take full week off every 8 weeks for total rest which usually allows me to lift better after the rest!

Sounds like you've enjoyed the 'good life' and filled your body with more empty calories than nutritous ones. A few beers? chips perhaps?

    mmmmmm,

put bad fuel in your car and dont expect it to reach top speed.

Tbh, even with a week on junk food, I would not expect to see a significant drop in strenght over the course of just a single week.

Could be psychological, I regularly take a week off squatting without losing any strength.

In fact I took 2 weeks off lifting this month because I was painting a laying floors, didn't lose any strength.

Go in the next day well rested and well fed and see how you get on.

You cant be on top form all the time, some days are much better than others.

No lifting + eating junk food is what I call a strength phase.

OP sometimes with squatting not doing it for even a week can make you rusty and leave you feeling awkward in the lift. There may be something wrong with your training but taking a week off and eating pizza isn't the problem.

Tbh I reckon you just weren't comfortable and were out of the groove when it came to training. nothing to worry about.

Agreed, no way did you lose your strength gains over a 1 week rest period, especially if you talking about squating 1.7BW.

thats 3 extra reps altogether so going the right way

I absolutely cannot understand how you go from sets of 5 to 1 and then 0.

Are you ramping your sets or are all 5 at the same weight?

couple of warm up sets then 5*5 with the same weight..

thinking of taking maybe a minute or two longer rest see if that helps
