Hi guys, I'm in Transition Year and one of my 'things' I want to acheive during my life is to run a marathon. Seeing as I'm in TY it's the perfect year to do it. Only thing is I have no experience running! During school weeks I only get to the gym on Saturday and Sunday. When I'm on school holidays I get there maybe 3-4 times. I was hoping ye could help me in developing a programme. I ran a half a kilometre today in 3 minutes if that helps. I'm 5'5" and 141 lbs if ye need to know.
    Thanks in advance.

If you've never done any running whatsoever it's best to try aim run for a few shorter runs to see do you like it, 5km, 10km etc. To be honest if you're just starting out runnign aiming for a marathon within the 1st year is a big step but others may disagree with me.

Try this first and see do you enjoy running, it's not for everyone.

You might want to check out the Athletics/Running/Triathlon forum too, they might have more helpful advice.

Also - what age are you? You usually have to be 18 to run a marathon but 16 or older to run shorter races

exactly - i would NOT recommend a marathon for anyone under 18yrs old. Stick to anything under 45-60mins is plenty
