Who should be the 2010 King of the Ring?

"In addition to the November 29th three hour Raw, which will mark the return of the King of the Ring tournament..."

So we have another one-night KOTR tournament, much like the April 21, 2008 RAW where William Regal won. But who should win the 2010 KOTR?

I assume both RAW and SD wrestlers are eligible.






These pics are a little out of date but they're mostly right. Add in Nexus....we might be missing a few more (Tyler Reks etc) but that's mostly everyone.

So, who would you pick to be KOTR? Keep your picks to 3 wrestlers!

It must be the Masperiece. Nobody in the midcard is as over and can work as good as him. Most importantly however who has better muscles than Msters?
WWE PPV'S are bombing these days, and one of the reasons for this is Masters is never on PPVS.
Their are rumors floating around that people are planning to protest outside Survivor Series if he is not involved. Its business suicide to consistently ignore the a man who is basically Benoit/Eddie/ The Rock/ Knox/ Jeff/ Austin these days. KOTR is the perfect place for Vince to rectify this horrific wrong, Chris Masters, time is now.

from the mid-card (it might not be a mid carder at all afterall there are probably a lot of main eventers who would like to add that accolade to their list of honours considering past winners etc also) the following are people I could see doing a King character.

William regal with a second KOTR title and reign as King of Raw, maybe a mid card feud with someone like the man he trained Bryan Danielson could happen.

The Million Dollar son could use the KOTR to boost his character and it could suit that character too what with him being loaded like a King and thinking he is above everyone.

Either of the one show only Dashing duo McIntyre and Rhodes could use the push and character touch up in a similar way too. Dolph Ziggler could probably be considerd for similar reasons too and to a lesser extent The Miz but I think he is sorted with his MITB briefcase.

Another man who needs direction atm the moment and could probably get the promo time afforded to such a character push at the moment in the mid card is also MVP. If we are looking at upper mid carder likely to be pushed specifically John Morrison could merit a mention also but i dont think he would suit the King Moniker as much.

Bryan Danielson could also be a contenter if they want to promote it as a contest of pure wrestling ability and in that way work him being called the king of the ring akin to how he's called The Best Wrestler in the World.

King of the ring means nothing these days.

Back in the day winners used to get a title shot, and actually get shout outs, props, & story lines.

William regal got a throne, & a titantron design that said KOTR 2008 and that's it.

Brock won KOTR & got the title at summerslam VS The Rock, got a good aul run as champ, and was a main eventer.

KOTR is just for story now, there's no tension.

Regal was due for a big push after winning KOTR but was suspended for violation of the wellness policy if I remember correctly

This is true. If its not seen as a main event type tournament with everyone in it, it'll prob be Ted DiBiase, since nothing else seems to be getting him over

I think the King of the Ring gimmick is well suited to his character. I'd rather see a heel win than a face although I wouldn't be opposed to Daniel Bryan getting a shot.

100% agree.

The KOTR will go one of two ways:
Completely awesome (winner gets title shot, genuine effect on push etc).
Or:
Complete farce (just something to get a few viewers in, means not a lot, but could start a few angles.)

If it was the latter, then i would love santino to win it.

It could give him some element to his character that he is missing.
Santino is comedy gold when he has something to work with.

All my contenders have already been mentioned :
The King of the Ring does mean nothing but I could see Santino getting a TON of milage out of it, so I'd be for it. He'd go round in a crown, cape and septre, and change his own outfit (maybe golden boots?) it'd be amazing.

Although I'm still a mark for the KOTR so I'd hope someone who isn't "above" it (i.e. could still use it as a stepping-stone to elevate himself); i.e someone who's never been champion or won MITB.

I want Dashing Cody Rhodes or Daniel Bryan to win it. Although I'd probably rather Cody since he's been there ~2 years longer and it'd fit in with his Dashing/mirror narcissism gimmick. Bryan can win the 2012-13 one Since it's been mentioned, hell yes, Alberto Del Rio would be perfect for KOTR. He's already royalty! Both these guys could really use this as a vehicle to cut promos and get more over as a heel. Ah, fresh talent

Back in the days of the KOTR ppv this was a good vehicle for pushing a mid-carder/upper mid-carder towards the next level. Based on those criteria I think that Alberto del Rio, The Miz, John Morrison and Jack Swagger should be considered for the crown this time around.

Alberto is above being King Of The Ring, he doesnt need a novelty crown, he probably already has loads of real crowns because he is so rich and deadly.

I wouldnt have any interest in seeing that spoiler facethepain put up come through. He isnt really doing the biz for me at all

Del Rio would be a great choice. I wouldn't mind McIntyre winning it either as they seem to have no clue what to do with him at the minute. He's really lost a lot of momentum since he was supposed to be the 'chosen one'. They could call him the King of Scotland or something similarly silly. Knowing WWE it will be probably be won by a surprise return from Hunter.

I like the guy, he has got talent but when you have

Hope it's not Santino. It's comedy segments are decent at best.

Danielson, Ziggler, and Barrett all have storylines at the mo with their belts and Nexus.

It looks like Morrison is about to feud with Sheamus so if Sheamus puts him over that would be his push rather than the KOTR and Sheamus really doesn't need the push.

Regal's too old (unfortuntly), Del Rio is still relatively new and his gimmick is fine as it is, it wouldn't suit Kofi, Rhodes, Miz, Truth, Ezekiel or MVP to win it, so that just leaves DiBiase, McIntyre and Swagger as they'd fit the bill perfectly.

Sheamus doesn't need to be King of the Ring.

It should be used to push some newer guys or rejuvenate a guy who needs a character refresh. For a year and a bit being King Booker saved Booker T's career from falling into obscurity (or delayed the inevitable for a few years depending on who you ask). A main event guy isn't going to be helped that much by it at all. So what if Sheamus wins. People will forget about it in a few weeks. But say if someone like Danielson or Alberto wins then they can use it to enhance their characters. It would be something to distinguish them from the rest of the mid card geeks who people have a hard time seeing as anything more than guys that they shouldn't care about because they are going nowhere.

If he doesn't win it then he'll be forgotten about. He needs a KOTR or a belt to stay over. Nobody cares about him at the minute because he has nothing.

He's not over right now because he doesn't have a storyline and the Morrison one on the horizon won't do anything for him. He's hit a lull. Someone else should get the spotlight; he's had one for the last year and he'll have it again when HHH imminently returns. Give HHH's gym buddy a rest for a wee while, he's in a very safe spot.

Ideally Zack Ryder:D (WWWYKI) but it could help legitimise Bryan. If it's both brands, Del Rio would be a good choice aswell.

Talk about an over reaction! A small interlude in the middle of what has been a pretty substantial early career in the WWE is hardly a sign that nobody cares. Even in the build up to Braggin Rights, King and Cole were bigging him up as a top level guy. He is hardly being buried at the minute.

He has a pretty big feud on the way with HHH and has been pushed to the moon since he arrived. KOTR is not the be-all and end all for Sheamus.

Actually I wouldn't mind Kofi winning it so long as he doesn't have a King gimmick but it could be a great way to restart his push
