Munster delay naming squad with 21 players being unavailable for this weekend due to injuries and international callups- http://www.munsterrugby.ie/news/8179.php

The Ulster starting XV and replacements will be named on Thursday. Here is the squad-
    Forwards
Alan Whitten, Paddy McAllister, Jerry Cronin, Bryan Young, BJ Botha, Nigel Brady, Andi Kyriacou, Dan Tuohy, Neil McComb, Tim Barker, Johann Muller, Ryan Caldwell, Pedrie Wannenburg, Willie Faloon, Robbie Diack, Chris Henry
    Backs
Adam D'Arcy, David McIlwaine, Paul Emerick, Mark McCrea, Tommy Seymour, Luke Marshall, Nevin Spence, Ian Whitten, Jonny Shiels, Ian Humphreys, Niall O'Connor, Ruan Pienaar, Paul Marshall, Ian Porter

Unavailable due to injury: David Pollock, Declan Fitzpatrick, Adam Macklin, Darren Cave, Simon Danielli, Jamie Smith, TJ Anderson

International callups - Rory Best, Tom Court, Stephen Ferris, Andrew Trimble, Paddy wallace

Alan Whitten and Jerry Cronin (think he's Sean's brother?) feature amongst the forwards as front row cover while Neil McComb is also named, and amongst the backs, Paul Emerick, Jonny Shiels, Luke Marshall and Ian Porter are also included.

Looks like both teams will be understrength especially Munster. Ulster have been far from impressive though in last few weeks so could be a close call. Ulster to shade it but Munster to pick up a losing BP.

We are very short in numbers for this. I'd definitely take a losing BP.

At least some youngsters will get a run. The likes of Dineen and super sub Mike Sherry should make their first starts for Munster.

    Maybe a team of:
    Du Preez, Sherry, Hayes, Holland, Foley/Nagle, Quinlan, Ronan, Coughlan;
Stringer, Warwick, Hurley, J Murphy, Dineen, Howlett, Deasy

I would like to see Deasy at 12 but the management see him as a 15. Also think POM should get a game, he has been clicking his heels on the bench for 4/5 games this season.

Quinny in the second row could be an option.

a real toss of a coin type game, don't think there will be much in it, maybe a new munster face will steal the limelight.

Hard to argue with that line up. Would like to see Murphy back in the back three but he's done ok at 12. Wouldn't mind seeing what Holland is like at 6 because he's going nowhere as a stop gap second row.

Hard to see Munster winning this but a young team might put it up to a stronger Ulster team. No harm in getting a run out in front of a hostile Ravenhill. Ulster by a score.

Whats the story with David Pollock? Very promising player but always seems to be injured

Rumour is he had surgery on a very serious hip injury but it wasn't a success.

I'm a bit more confident about this game now. Very inexperienced Ulster backline.

Kudos on the prediction of team selection Thomond.

Or is that the only players ye have left....

Will be watching this one with interest, that team is probably very close to the one that will be playing against the Ozzies in a couple of weeks.

Maybe its just me but Munster seem to be fielding the stronger 15.

Munster 11/8 to win this, I've stuck a few bob on it.

Ulster have a better second row but apart from that Munster match them everywhere. We have a far more experienced backline (Dineen aside).

When was the last time we won in Ravenhill? I honestly can't remember.

Big night for Ivan Dineen. Could have gone straight into the Munster academy but chose to put his studies first. Glad its worked out for him

A few years back we won, a huge turnaround after a drumming in the 1st half, I think Quinny was captain, my first and only trip to Ravenhill. :D

The following week we travelled to Scarletts for the QF of the H/Cup and got another drumming

Brian Carney scored the crucial try. Highlights were on youtube before but I can't find them now.

On another note, I never knew Christian Cullen played for Munster.

    :(

I dont think so, Sean is Limerick born and Jerry is Mallow, the son of a former Munster player, Billy Cronin.

Only time I ever heard Sean Cronin's brother mentioned he was dressing up as Eddie the Eagle, the Connacht mascot! Cronin mentioned it in an interview last season. Not sure if he's still doing it :)

Asking Cullen to fit into that Munster team was like asking a cardio surgeon to preform a bypass with a hammer and garden pliers.

Its not as bad for Howlett but still bad enough

Varley starting for Munster. Late release from Ireland squad.

2 knockons in the first 50 seconds. Terrible weather/pitch conditions.

Very harsh on Sherry. Poor guy must have been getting up for this all week

3-3 after ten - happy with that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

3-3, pens for Warwick and Humphreys. Lots of effective kicking to the corner from Ulster.

  • Site Banned Posts: 5,346 ✭✭✭wixfjord

Was that Quinny that tried that chip?

  • Site Banned Posts: 5,346 ✭✭✭wixfjord

Twas. What a ****in idiotic decision!
Backed Munster @15/8 at 3-3. Not a bad bet imo.

Munster lucky to get away with that there. Ulster luck very sharp

It's really frustrating how badly the pitch is lined. At least it's very hard to see on tv

Quinlan looked to have done in his hamstring chasing Munster's restart.

Edit: He's coming off. Peter O'Mahony on.

Tis a night for Ronan to play well. Generally looks good at this level.

Looks like it already, pulled up after restart and hobbled around for a bit. Ulster look dangerous.

FFS Faloon floored Howlett late there.

    Luke Marshall.

If you recall the Combined U20s game at the Aviva, this guy ran the show for Leinster-Ulster.

The wind is strongly favouring Ulster this half. I'd be very confident in the second half if we can keep it at 6-3 until halftime.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,848 ✭✭✭bleg

Probably about a 15 point wind...

    Broken game now.

I really think Deasy is a 12 being played out of position at 15. What do Munster fans think?

    What a take by O'Mahony.

And then we lose it. :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,207 ✭✭✭durkadurka

Do they ration the line paint up the north or what?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

    Great read by Johne Murphy.

Not a great kick from Deasy. :o

    HT 6-3

Very confident we can win the game.

Good performances from Nagle, Coughlan and Hurley. Deasy is very hot and cold, some dodgy kicks. I agree with an earlier post that he does seem to a 10/12 put at fullback. Impressed with Dineen.

Ulster have been completly dominant, they probably should have 1/2 tries on the board. Munster defence has been excellent.

Jesus O'Mahony is a lucky boy, second time he's done that.

Christ move Deasy away from FB, awful kicking. :(

Deasys kicking isn't augering well for a 10 position anyways..
