guys,

we're holding a song contest out at Base Recording Studios. its open to any type of artists and any genre (from r'n'b to metal).

the prize is a recording session out at the studio and if needed a production session aswell.

to enter all you need is a song. doesnt have to be recorded professionally, we'll accept any submissions.. if you cant or dont know how to record then we'll even organise an audition for you

the best 5 submissions will be judged and one winner will be chosen by stuart clarke (hotpress) and tony perrey (windmill lane & pulse)

sorry just a couple of questions

when submitting a cd application would it be acceptable to submit a number of songs or is it limited to one song per entry? also would the winner be limited in the amount of studio time they are allotted or are they limited by the number of songs?

thanks for the interest. it is limited to one song per artist so send your best

as far as the prize goes its to record the song as a single so a b-side would be recorded too.. and depending on quality we may stretch it to 2 b-sides.

as far as we're concerned that means getting them to the highest standard we can achieve so there would be no worries on the amount of studio time available within reason.

definitely interested in this! I'm a singer-songwriter and have been recording tracks in my bedroom for a while now.

Do I submit a CD with the "single" demo and the "b-side" demo or just the one and then decide later?

Also how and where do I submit the CD? By Post or something?

you send a cd into us with the application form thats in the link in my first post. alternativly you can drop it into us at the studio (pm me if you want to do this and ill give you travel details etc).

Hey Epihony will you accept instrumental entries? Im currently putting a female fronted rock band together but im still looking for the female to front the band! Anyways I have about an albums worth of songs wrote and recorded and a few people have said that theyre good enough to release instrumentally so im thinking this could be a great opportunity to test the waters!

its actually myself running it, not epihony... anyway, you can submit a track at any stage of its development but i would advise even doing a guide vocal as it would be very hard to judge with no lead melody to hear!

sorry mate. we need everything hard copy but you've over two weeks to get it in and once the post mark is before december 1st we'll still accept it.

Hi DamagedTrax,

Can you submit a song, and then resubmit a better song later on, but before the submission date??

The reason is that I have a couple of tunes recorded (not amazingly well TBH) but Im working on a new one which I think could be my best work yet.... I might have it ready by the end of the next week so could I re-submit an application then?

Thing is, I might NOT have it ready on time also, so the first tune would be my entry....

sorry, can only take 1 entry per band/artist (as it is we've a huge amount to get thru, if we allowed more than 1 per band we'd still be deciding on the top 5 well into next year!!!). so i would advise waiting to see if you finish your new tune first

anyway, there's a few weeks left and it doesnt have to be recorded well. we wont even consider the production side of things for this competition. purely the song.. so an acoustic with a vocal stands as much chance as a full production

also i realise snail-mail may slow up a little coming to december with xmas and all, so like i said earlier, anything thats postmarked before 1st december will be accepted, even if it arrives late.

I have a song that I want to submit for this but it's going to be a very rough recording and I'm not sure if it will stand a chance? It needs drums and bass and all that but I don't have access to all that stuff.

Will I just submit it with guitar and vocals? Or should I find someone to play the other parts for me?

guitar and vocals is perfect. we're not at all interested in production only the song itself. if a song thats just a guitar and vocal wins we will then work with the artist on the production.

it'll probably be mid/end jan by the time we select the final five and the judges then decide on the winner.

I'm going to send an instrumental track (no hope of getting vocals recorded this side of xmas I'm afraid) and I just want to ask would it better if I sent lyrics with the cd just to give some slight idea of the vocal approach or should I just send the song and let it be judged on composition, melody, structure and all that jazz?

you'll need to provide a lead vocal melody of some sort. its a song competition, so without the lead melody i cant really judge it. just hum it or make strange noises :-)
