There's only a handful of national papers, but there's tonnes of regional & county ones. Dublin, funnily enough, is one of the few counties that doesn't actually have one.

Don't buy Irish newspapers, far too expensive imo.

I get my Irish news from the radio and TV.

I subscribe to the London Evening Standard newspaper, you can view its daily issue online which has been free for over a year now both in London and Online.

    The Irish Times
Will buy The Examiner, if it's not available won't bother.

Have given up on Sunday papers, but if I'm stuck might buy The Sunday Tribune (even if half of it such as the magazine gets binned immediately)

Won't really touch any of the others.

Ah, stop. top 5 irish newspapers?

There aren't even 5 worthy to wipe my hoop with!

5 places I get my news from:

The (British) Sunday Times (yes I'm well aware of the seconhand Fox news element but it's still ok for some stuff)

boards.ie (always first off the mark with home news, although way over scared of libel law)

Newstalk: My definitive gospel in real time.

today FM; Matt Cooper. delivers facts.

Text; If something important happens someone will have texted me.

My favourtie is the star.. Prob has the best sport coverage.

They're all shyte, like every form of media in Ireland they do nothing but repeat what all the others are saying, it's more a case of keeping up with the Joneses than trying to outdo the Joneses.

Radio is especially bad at it, if ones doing sport they're all doing sport at the same time, want to listen to rock and roll, it makes no difference what station you listen to because they all do it at the same time.

I don't really read anything apart from The Irish Times. A bit Dub-centric, but still far above the rest as far as daily newspapers go. The Irish Independent would be at the bottom of the pile, without any doubt. Its sports coverage is okay but I find it infuriating reading.

Amazing considering it is an English paper and this refers to daily newspapers in Ireland. The Irish Daily Mail and the english sister paper couldn't be more different if they tried.

The Irish Mirror and Irish Sun have to be among the worst daily rags that have ever being printed (/awaits page three jokes from people that dont realise theres even more boobies on the internet). I dont get these redtop bull **** rags. No investigative journalism unless its about a model snorting coke. When they are talking about a news item there is very little detail but yet have massive pictures.

Anyway as the saying goes a newspaper is 90% bull****/entertainment and 10% Fact.

Well yes and no. When I see those Herald sellers standing in all weathers at traffic junctions I feel sympathy.

But I will hell on earth buy that bogroll of a paper!! No wa José!

If they were selling the Irish Times even though it was online, I would buy but for a red tabloid, no frickin way!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,293 ✭✭✭✭Mint Sauce

Independent (weekday editions) buy 2 or 4 times a week
Irish Times (weekend edition) most weekends
Donegal News/Derry People (friday edition) buy anytime i make it to donegal at the weekend
Donegal Democrat buy if no more copies of the donegal news
Donegal Times sometimes on the coffee table if i go home

    Some streets are news-worthy.:(

I wouldn't expect my neighbours rolling their wheelie bins up to the main road, to be reported on Boards, not unless they got killed by the frozen contents of an airliner's toilet falling from 30,000 feet.

    3 questions;
What are the top five irish newspapers?
What is your favourite and why?
Which newspaper do you dislike the most, and why?

OP, just out of curiousity, why did you omit the IRISH daily mail, might not be everyones cup of tea but you will be seriously be mistaken to assume that it is not widely read and liked by some...( I am not suggesting I am one of them...:o)

To answer one of your questions...my favourite is Irish times, I think it is value for money ( not that I buy it) but their website is just lovely...( No stupid pop-ups asking for questionnaires etc plus you can actually get all the info without buying the paper itself) and some of their commentators are actaually class.

    Because it's shit.

Have never read the Irish version, but re the UK version, not as bad as it is made out to be sometimes, and I can think of other publications that are worse.

They have campaigned superbly for Alzheimer's sufferers in the UK over the last few years which resulted in the recent u-turn by NICE to make treatment available for all.

I find the standard of spelling and grammar is excellent in the Herald.............. not! Seriously OP some needs to merge the Times with the Sun. Put a page three girl and a celebrity gossip column in the Times, Bob's your auntie.

    Whats your definition of "****"...

Is it that they do not suit your ideology or is that their form of dissemination of news is sub-standard? I asked because I will be highly surprised why they are still in business if it was due to the latter.
