Big thanks to Touching Virus who is going to sell me one of the ones he picked up today, and help me break my jtag virginity. Now to go and brush up on my soldering skills a bit :)

Well this is true :) He's kindly picked one up in Naas and held it for me for a day!

Lol at what your neighbours must be thinking TV. Random strange cars pulling up to the house usually on a phone, the exchange of money, and the departure with a green box....:p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,582 ✭✭✭TouchingVirus

What do my friends think, there's just a wall of green boxes in my bedroom now, nine boxed, two unboxed and one spilling it's guts beside me.

The JTAG man, it's addictive :P I'm half considering spinning out to Naas tomorrow again, I hear they have even more out there.

I need something to snap me out of it. I need to buy a PS3 game so I'll have a purpose to get a maximus USB dev board and start putting payloads on it. I need a new hobby, and quick. Teh money, it isn't unlimited :o

The TV bandwagon were the last ones I heard of, in fact, if there's any left in Europe he's likely to have them considering the shopping spree he went on :p

I bet he says that to all the modders :D

I picked one up from him too, the price was madness not to really.

I'd honestly love to have one spare but I don't have any JTAGs of any model to sell - wmn is right, he got the last one from my batches of jaspers, and I've sold my Xenon JTAGs to other boardsies too.

The only thing that may be a runner is a customer's board they might be willing to part with. It's a Falcon with an RRODing board and all the nand reader through-holes are scorched/lifted off the board. It's a complete mess and I am trying to take reads from the traces but I don't think it's working out.

Other than that I'm fresh out of JTAGs, sorry man :(

ahh no worries. thanks anyway. I found few on Ebay and similar. Gonna check Tesco's next week as well. Have one which had few Falcons few weeks ago, need to check it on Monday.

Another possibility is Argos they are selling Arcades don't know if they are exploitable though http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/9009466/Trail/searchtext%3EXBOX+360+CONSOLE.htm

Thanks, but we checked them long time ago.

Thats a shame jtaggable Xboxs are like gold dust

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,582 ✭✭✭TouchingVirus

I bought from Argos way back at the start of the year and got landed with one from October :D

Argos is too risky to buy from, you don't get to check them before money changes hands and the consoles are excluded from their money-back guarantee.

Well, I haven't checked Naas and Maynooth, but Finglas and ClareHall are out of Jaspers. Still some Falcons left (e149.99 for Arcade, 199.99 for Elite). I've grabbed Falcon, just in case, modded with some extra fans, replaced termal paste, got rid of xclamps, hopefully it will serve me well. I've also soldered cables for internal 3.5" HDD mod, just waiting for my 1tb hdd to clear :P

What is the idea of removing the x-clamps docentore? Would you recommend I do it to my falcon? Mine sits pretty around 40c...so is there a need in my case?

some theories say that they flex the board. I just dont trust them, I do that with every xbox of mine. Now you have to remember that most of the "fix" guides recomend using 2x1mm washers between board and radiator, but the distance is between 2-3mm, so I just leave the M5 screw not fully screwed in if you get me.

It would be good idea to put fresh thermal paste anyway, even if you decide to leave the xclamps on, and maybe add an extra fan.

Some theories..from where its only home made ideas nothing else ;) Never washers, its makes more troubles after than before.Thermal paste always best (arctic 5 or similar)

I never said that the x-clamp is causing the troubles. No one proved that that it is true or not. The fact is that they're spring loaded and causing constant presure on the chips, thats why I said I don't trust them.

As for the washers, I reckon you saw how Xbox 360 looks like inside. I'd suggest that you would have a look and notice that there is a distance between the board and the heatsink. If you can measure it you will get something between 2-3mm. Without the washers there is nothing to stop you from crushing the cores or extreme flex the board. I can't see how the washers will make it worst, but maybe I'm wrong so please elaborate it more and prove that I'm wrong.

If you want ,did ever heard about reballs?i think never if you still using noob tech from youtube as washers.Never had problems with washer? how long you have console which you sell for other person?Week?2 weeks and is going to someone else who will have problems after.Washer is only temporary solution, provide temporary fix,in many cases makes more troubles after.Did you ever lift Gpu after washer fix?and see how looks pads on mainboard?

Please learn about who you are trying to school here. Docentore has pictures in the modding pictures thread of a lead-reballed GPU. He knows what types of fixes are available. The thing is, none of his consoles need to be fixed, they are not broken yet. He's trying to prevent flexing of the motherboard caused by the x-clamps constant pressure. It's a good preventative move I'm sure he's using in conjunction with fanspeed mods etc.

Lead reballs are not free, if they were then I'm sure we'd all have lead-reballs on our JTAG consoles.

    Read again what I wrote.

Again: This motherboard is not broken, I'm trying to prevent the rrod. One of the ways is to get rid of xclamps, which are putting presure on the chips and the board.
What you are talking about is the Xclamp fix, which is something different. You got washers mixed with the screws. Read again my post about the mod.

"If you can measure it you will get something between 2-3mm. Without the washers there is nothing to stop you from crushing the cores or extreme flex the board"

I will repeat this for the third time: the distance between mobo and the heatsing is between 2 and 3 milimetres. Show me where I can get 1.2mm thick washers , please.
I didn't screw the M5 bolts to the end and the washers are to prevent the pads and balls and cores to be crushed if I put too much presure.

And I'm not selling any consoles at the moment and I do sell stuff I say about condition of things, which you should know already.

So please don't tell me anything about noobism here. I'm not insulting you so please stop doing this to me. If you wan't to answer to someones post and you can't understand ask first before flaming. I know, English is not my mother tongue so sometimes I write or speak in "strange" manner, but I appreciate if people are not taking advantage of this.

PS: Widze, ze angielski tez nie jest Twoim pierwszym jezykiem. Przeczytaj jeszcze raz to co napisalem zanim wyciagniesz wnioski. Zajmujesz sie reballingiem sam czy oddajesz komus? Z ciekaowsci pytam
