Exercise to lose moobs and spare tyre (over 30 version)

    Hi,
I've recently lost 8 stone and am now left with a lot of loose skin on my upper arms, chest, and tummy. Currently stand at 99kg and am 31 years old.
Are there any exercises out there that could conceivably get rid of this flab or is surgery really and truly the only real option I have at my age?
    Thanks.

It's nutrition which will take care of getting rid of any excess flab. Exercise, specifically weight training, will help give your body shape by building lean mass (muscle). Once you begin building muscle, you should notice the skin tighten up considerably.

8 stone, fair f**ks to you !!!!

Running and push-ups are good. No need to go mad, try 20 or 30 push-ups in the morning and evening after work. An Australian football player told me small amounts of exercise every day are much better than going mad in a gym twice a week.

8 stone is an incredible achievement , well done. Unfortunately the loose skin left behind after massive weight loss may require surgery, you could try bulking up a bit by adding lean muscle but ultimitly I think this will only help a little.

    Best of luck.

another tip is too start rubbing bio-oil in to minimise stretch marks as your skin get stretched!

My moobs have come down a lot from doing push ups and bench press exercises. Still have the gut but thats because I love the pints too much :)

Wow, surgery? Really? I'd really like to think (if only wishfully) that diet and excercise (or even illegal drugs!) could fix anything like this. I'd love to, but have yet to, hear from anyone who's beaten your particular issue there. I've been eating clean amd exercising plenty for some time now (though only weight training really consistently in last 3 1/2 months) and though I've put on muscle etc there's no sign of reduction in loose skin and stretched skin.
This is just my fairly uninformed opinion but based on my experiences I fear it's a very, very different thing from 'normal' fat and the usual prescribed fat loss protocols have seemed to barely do a thing.

I dunno what to do about it. If you start saying you think it might be a hormonal thing people here will immediately more or less say you're a lazy excuse-maker and don't try hard enough, blah blah blah.

As ever, I keep trying as much as possible though.

Oh, I should say however that I've yet to on a really disciplined low carb cut since beginning adding muscle 3 1/2 months ago. So we'll just see how that goes, it may help, finger crossed it's a method that works.

I also think surgery might be the last resort, I have nearly lost 7 stone in just over a year and have done weights in all that time and don't have any dodgy loose skin, just the spare tyre but that should go given the correct diet and exercise.

There are certain cases where surgery is required.

However, I'd recommend a person first do everything they possibly can do to lose weight and gain muscle before considering surgery.

First off, congratulations on your progress so far.

I know someone personally who is having the same issues, though having had a gastric bypass and losing 12+ stone. The majority of this was lost over quite a small period of time (14months). It has however started seeming a little tighter over the last year. He is also restricted, as due to several serious injuries, he can do very little exercise either, so I would be confident that exercise/resistance training would improve it again.

In a nutshell, give it some time and it should improve. How did you lose the weight? Was exercise involved and if so, to what degree?

Well done on the weightloss. There are others who can better advise you on the specifics, but on your age...you're only a young fella yet! Keep going the exercise/diet route, you'll be well able to continue your progress, imo.
