Take this with a pinch of salt:

WWE to Hire Up to 100 New Employees For "WWE Network"
    by Nick Paglino
    Oct 21, 2010

PWTorch.com is reporting that WWE is set to hire anywhere from 100 to 140 new employees in preparation for the launch of its new "WWE Network." During his latest conference call, Vince McMahon said that WWE will begin talks with cable companies in January 2011 regarding picking up the new network. It's also being reported that WWE spokesperson Robert Zimmerman has said that the company's already hired 55 new employees and a majority of them have been from the Connecticut area.

    I know when i think "WWE Network", i think;

    But could it work?

would wwe have enough programming (Both new and old) to make a channel?

They don't have enough original programming. They only produce 5-6 hours of it a week. While a "reeling in the years" type of thing would be interesting, it'd only be so to a niche market - within a niche market. As big as the WWE are, this this too big for them.

I get your point.....but look at Football teams TV channels (MUFC TV, LFC TV, Chelsea TV , etc.), they dont even show live games or anything. They mostly dont start until like 11am and finish at 12 at night. So if WWE Network was to happen, i dont think it would actually air RAW & Smackdown as they are all on seperate networks. So it would be full of shoes like Afterburn and WWE Vintage. It could also show interviews with wrestlers and WWE Employees and could also show past PPV's and even show documenteries taken from WWE DVD releases. It could work, but i doubt we'd have it over here tho, unless Sky sees a good market for it. Then again, there are like 100 channels you get with SKY that probably have like 5 viewers daily.

If sky picked it up it could be good in the sense that some who dont like football or whatever could get it without paying a ridiculous amount of money for 4 hours a week programming.

I think a WWE channel could work with

    Raw
    SD
    NXT
    Superstars
    WWE Classics
    PPV pre-views
    WWE Movies
    Tough Enough
    FCW

and maybe some backstage stuff or a around the horn type of programme

I don't know ... like Steveo I don't think they could show too much of their current programming, Raw and SD would probably only be shown on the WWE channel if they had no other real channel to show them.

I'd imagine the WWE channel would be similar to the WWE 24/7 stuff, so you'd get your legends of wrestling type shows (which are great), and then you'd have your old WWF shows, WCW shows, ECW Shows, as well as whatever's in their libraries from all the other territories that are broadcastable. All their documentaries would get run out, as well as new specials.

I'd hope they'd show all the monday night wars shows in order, so you'd get the monday night raw on the monday, followed by the equivelent Nitro either straight after, or the night after.

Didn't WWE also do sort of a viewer call in show hosted by Todd Grisham too?

They could also do a call in quiz show hosted by The Fink.

And hell Campo, why just do pre-ppv shows? They could broadcast the PPV's there too. And should the WWEN launch in the EU too, they could take the broadcasting from sky, launch the PPV's here on WWEN, and keep all that sweet (fabulous) moolah for themselves, without paying sky any endorsements.

It could work if they were allowed to show TV shows like RAW and Smackdown a day or two after they air live on the contracted cable channels.

WWE could not show Raw or Smackdown on their own channel because they would lose too much money. TV deals are a big source of income for the WWE.

Could they not do both? Like MUTV, Sky Sports shows the match live and the next day MUTV shows the match in its entirity.

Obviously don't show them live, show them a day or 2 after they have aired on the USA Network and SYFY.

This has been rumoured for a few years and i see no reason why not. If Celtic can have a tv channel(not on the tv just now but should be back in the new year) then why not the wwe who have millions more customers.

They must have some amount of footage in the archives. Throw in a daily news show.

    I would welcome it anyway.

On the original post it says wwe hired 50 new employees. I could be wrong but wwe advertise all their positions on the corporate web site and i never spotted these positions. No mention of them looking for new staff in these positions either. 10 jobs available though............

Well I mean they could not show it live. Showing repeats may or may not be possible depending on the deals with USA and Syfy. I know that some contracts for similar events (mainly sports) involve rights for the repeats as well as the live show. The live rights might be devalued if they were not exclusive TV rights.

    Mega bump for new info:

    link:
Some new details have been revealed regarding plans for the upcoming WWE television network. The network is one of the main reasons for the "WWE" rebranding move in recent weeks with the idea being they are going to provide their own network and don't want it perceived as a "pro wrestling channel." The idea is to air new scripted programming in addition to other programming they would already carry in the huge library of stock footage. The company is currently in the process of digitizing this library and attempting to upgrade some to HD. This of course will be a very slow process. The network is also expected to host other entities they can't land TV deals for (examples include NXT, Superstars and other recap shows that only air internationally). Reports continue to point to the YES Network as being a major role model for this new WWE network.

When are WWE just going to stop tickling themselves and just make a half-hour sitcom featuring no wrestling?

I really think they could do something on the cheap (and awesome) if they bought out CHIKARA and made a sitcom with it. (it can't be expensive)

Also, an animated show much like Hogan's in the 80s. Much like the comic books with Taker and his legion of the undead etc etc. It could be really awesome. It'd get characters over than the zero mic time most wrestlers receive on a weekly basis.

When I think about it - wwe have so many talented people under contract there must be scope for giving them tv shows.

They could do a version of Aerobics Oz style with the Diva's - that would get good ratings.

CM Punk could have his own dating show.

A new survey issued by WWE regarding the upcoming WWE Network asked fans whether they would be willing to change cable providers in order to get access to the Network that will launch in 2012. One key part of the new survey is the re-wording of some original questions about plans for PPV events. It is made clear that while the eight secondary WWE PPV events would be featured on the Network, the top four events (Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, Survivor Series and Summerslam) would not be.

Network launch around the same time as WrestleMania 28 takes place in April. The company has not publicly announced a launch date thus far. Rather, they are publicly listing it for a 2012 launch.

    http://www.prowrestling.net/artman/publish/WWE/article10021383.shtml

The article also states how NFL found it difficult to set up a network when they were in a similar position to where the wwe is now.
So who wants to vote that this could be another XFL situation?

If you watch Wrestling on US streams you see how low grade the ads WWE gets 90% fast food. No sexy technology or car sponsors. This is SOOO doomed.

At least with XFL they had a powerful financial and strategic partner.

The launch of the new WWE Network has been discussed internally as wanting to start up as early as April to be part of the "Wrestlemania publicity machine" reports The Wrestling Observer Newsletter. This reportedly came as a shock to many when given as a suggestion. WWE has continued to issue surveys in recent weeks getting key feedback on PPV offerings and if fans would be willing to change cable or satellite providers if they don't offer the network. The biggest obstacle WWE faces with the network is getting cable systems to clear it. Either way, it will launch in 2012.

    Sweet mother of god:

    http://www.wweresearch.com/se.ashx?s=0B8801400CA890B9

    Plus all these other ideas
    1. Stone Cold Steve Austin and his counterpart, a refined beer expert, visit a different local brewery, pub, or beer fest/competition each week in different U.S. cities. Follow the tour bus online by accessing the show’s interactive GPS map and Join Stone Cold as he meets the owners of different establishments around the country; learns how the beer gets made, learns what to eat with specific beers and on the whole, just has a great time. If you’d watch this show, give me a ‘hell yeah!’

    2. A show based on the real lives of the largest athlete in the world, the Big Show, and his wife Bess (who has a larger than life personality). What does it take to feed a Giant? What unusual things happen in every day life when you’re 7 feet tall and weigh 500 pounds? Travel on Big Show and Bess’ tour bus from town to town; meet their giant mastiffs that sleep in their already cramped bed, and hear the outrageous stories about the Big Show and his blunders as only his wife can tell them. Then connect with Show himself during his weekly check-in with fans at WWE.com, where viewers can also find un-lockable bonus clips, Bess’s blog, and the “Show cam”, a 24/7 webcam documenting the couple’s life at home.

    3. Join Mick Foley as he tours the greatest adventure parks in the United States in search of the ultimate roller coaster ride. Experience the food, the people, and the thrill of the action hosted by the greatest roller coaster enthusiast in the WWE, Mick Foley. Learn more about these amazing thrill rides via WWE.com’s interactive coaster map; an annotated guide to the best amusements in the country. Post your own comments, and debate with Mick about the best dips and dives in Theme Park-Dom.

    4. Akin to Ice Road Truckers or Deadliest Catch, this series would follow the
WWE Road Crews from show to show to illustrate the many facets of what it takes to put on a live television show week after week. This program will follow the lives of everyone backstage: the truckers, the caterers, the television engineers, the pyro crew, as well as the WWE Superstars. What does it take to put on the biggest traveling show in the world week in and week out? Watch to find out, and go online to read the daily posts and photos from these road warriors’ themselves; or thumb through WWE.com’s official guide to landing a job on the Road Crew, and submit your resume!

    5. A reality show that is the exact opposite of The Biggest Loser; based on WWE Superstars helping “skinny” or “scrawny” guys put on muscle mass while providing tips to build their confidence to get their dream girl. Follow along online, where the WWE Superstars provide exclusive live tips during programming, and where the contestants document their progress on a weekly basis.

    6. Die-hard, middle-aged fans live out their childhood dreams of becoming a WWE Superstar by training in the ring, learning how to talk on the microphone, and getting “slammed” by their childhood hero. Vote each week to rate how well contestants are performing inside the ring and help them develop their WWE persona through live online polling.

    7. Each show features a different WWE Superstar or Diva taking a WWE fan through their workout. Watch as the fan sweats through a routine while learning about different training techniques as well as general workout and nutritional tips for people who are looking to get in shape. Download the show’s free iPhone exercise app, and workout alongside the Superstars, from the comfort of home, as you burn calories and build muscle.

    8. Amazing Race meets Road Trip as the WWE Universe competes for the ultimate prize; front row tickets to WrestleMania. Teams of WWE fans will travel the country through various challenges and roadblocks to score their chance to witness the greatest live event spectacular in entertainment, WrestleMania. A GPS tracker lets viewers follow the teams, who must use social media to help unlock tasks, get clues, and earn rewards.

    9. The ultimate behind-the-scenes look into the lives of six Divas as they work, train, and party together across the country in the confines of a tour bus; think Bret Michaels’ Rock of Love Tour meets Road Rules; WWE Diva’s style. How do 6 Divas share one shower? What happens when a jilted lover gets intimate with another Diva on the bus? If you thought there were sparks in The Ring every night, wait until you see what happens on The Bus…(and make sure to watch each week for a special code that unlocks the bus’s live 24/7 webcam!)

    10. Think Hard Knocks meets 24/7 as we follow the lives of hopeful WWE Superstars and Divas as they work, train, and struggle their way to the main roster. What relationships develop as the personal and professional lives of these young men and women intersect? Who dominates as the “alpha male”? Be a part of their triumphant success or witness the crushing blow of their failure. Who will make it up the ladder? Connect with the trainers during the show to make your opinion known, go online to pull up the live “heat map,” which rates which talents are trending most with fans in social circles, and login to Facebook to access bonus “confessional” footage.

    11. What match would you like to see the most? What classic WWE moment would you like to relive? You decide! Hosted out of the WWE’s state of the art HD Studio, this is where the WWE Universe programs the show and selects the content through social media voting and polling.

    12. A series about the romantic relationships in the WWE; showcasing famous relationships of the past between Macho Man Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth, Stephanie McMahon and HHH, Edge & Lita, Mr. McMahon’s multiple conquests, and more!

    13. From George “The Animal Steel”, to the likes of Goldust, Mankind, and the Brood, this 10 part series focuses on the careers and back stories of the "oddest" WWE Superstars in WWE history. Who do you think was the WWE’s most unusual character? You can join the conversation through social media and upload your ideas for the most “different” WWE characters.

    14. From DX imitating the Nation, to Edge and Christian's escapades, to
The Rock's classic interviews, this 10 part series highlights the WWE's most hilarious scenes, commentary, and bloopers. You will have the chance to rate these moments through social media and earn points for finding content we might have missed! This program is guaranteed to make you laugh out loud!

    15. Hosted by Mick Foley, this program will feature the best OMG moments in Sports Entertainment History. Relive Foley’s death defying fall off Hell in the Cell, Jeff Hardy’s Swanton Bomb to the outside of the ring off a 12 foot ladder, or Shane McMahon’s drop off the side of the Titan Tron. What was going through their minds as they jumped or fell? What did it feel like when they landed? Would they do it all over again? Ask your questions online and have them answered in exclusive interviews by the WWE Superstars who lived the moment.

    16. Classic matches from the libraries of the NWA, AWA, WCW, WWE, Smoky Mountain Wrestling, Georgia Championship Wrestling and more, are given a modern day presentation. The bouts of Legends like Bruno Sammartino, Bobo Brazil and Bob Backlund are enhanced with onscreen factoids and interactive interviews that offer a never before seen experience in Sports Entertainment history.

    17. What happened the night Mr. McMahon’s limo exploded? What happened the night Stone Cold Steve Austin filled Mr. McMahon’s prize corvette with concrete? What incident led to the wedding of Stephanie McMahon and the Undertaker? Relive these classic moments on television and interact via a second screen experience allowing you to unlock exclusive scenes and interviews in a never before seen one hour show. Go back to the water cooler!

    LOL, Monkey Tennis?

i can't help but think that these things will fail, because wwe's characters aren't that strong, hard to carry an average show...the foley ones would probably fare best, but he's not relevant in 2011. Like i think these shows would have a hard time getting over in the Attitude Era, you know?

Ah it's all worth a try, better than pissing away $50,000,000 on Linda's campaign or the XFL etc... These shows sound like they could cover everything adequately in 1-2 episodes, not as a series though.

where's Hulk Hogan's Rock n Wrestling 2.0?? i think a campy cartoon featuring crazy storylines would be the best bet. Cena's comedy would be right at home ;) Taker raises an undead army, Punk becomes a cult leader, Cody Rhodes in batman/joker parody; that kind of thing icon_biggrin.gif

It is more of an North American project to help "solve" North American problems. Those problems being WWE not having much leverage with Networks to get TV deals and the rights fee they think they deserve. Also they believe the PPV model is dead/dying (due to no fault of their own :p).
