Mel Gibson is set to make a cameo appearence in the sequel to The Hangover following recent controversies surrounding his private life. The actor was recently dropped by Hollywood agency William Morris Endeavor amid allegations of domestic violence after taped phone calls of him ranting at his estranged wife Oksana Grigorieva were made public.
According to MTV News, Gibson is now confirmed for the role which he hopes will help relaunch his career.
The actor was not the only troubled star considered by Hangover producers, with director Todd Phillips recently explaining: "We are going to try and get Tiger Woods for the second one... help him regain his image."
Gibson's cameo follows that of boxer Mike Tyson in the first Hangover movie.
The film see the original movie's leads, Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis and Justin Bartha and Ken Jeong all returning, and will be released next year.

Yawn. The original is a passable but hugely over rated movie.A sequel will likely be in the same vein as American Pie 2 is to its predecessor.More swearing, more tits, more "gross out humour" and ultimately much, much less laughs.

Galifanakiasanasakianaheemmapetalon was the real saving grace of the first one.

It lost its way seriously about half way in but had some really funny moments up until then.

If it resembles Gibsons recent personal life then it should make for good comedy

I never watched the first one. It was so hyped up and so many people were talking about it that I was completely turned off it. The last few times I've recommended a comedy to someone I've been asked how does it compare to The Hangover. When I say I haven't seen it, my opinion is disregarded.

Damn Hangover, ruined my film critic career before it even got started :P

I found The Hangover pretty great until they brought in the Asian guy.
The fact that he's coming back for the sequel means I won't be paying much attention to this.

I don't think this movie requires a sequel. The first was enjoyable enough for what it was. Can't see where they are going to go with it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,608 ✭✭✭irish_stevo815

In the words of the great Obi-Wan Kenobi, "I have a bad feeling about this."
The first one was pretty funny and i quiet enjoyed it. But, it should have left alone as one movie. I guess it was inevitable as it made so much money, that the movie company/producers, etc. seen a chance for a sequel and a chance to milk it to the max.

But my one major worry is that The Hangover francise is gonna end up with American Pie syndrome, as in 3 American Pie movied were big releases, in the cinema, with the usual character - Stiffler, Jim, Finch, etc.......but then there were like 2/3 more releases straight to DVD, with new actors/characters.
So hopefully it wont happen here, as the idea of a bunch of guys getting drunk, and not remembering what happened the next morning, is getting pretty old already!!!!!

I think they're going to Thailand with this one!! :p

But seriously I know what you mean, the first one was very original and a pleasant surprise, no matter what they do for the second one they're going to be forcing some obvious jokes down our throats.

Just read that apparently Gibsons cameo has been cut because the cast didn't want him associated with it. Who'd have thought being an alcoholic racist would damage your career?

itll probably be a disaster anyway gibson or no gibson

Seems a bit dodgy that the cast won't act alongside Gibson but have no problem working with a convicted rapist.

Tyson was convicted of rape in 1992, whereas Gibson's public meltdown and fall from grace is within the last, what, 5 years? I don't think it's a moral issue so much as a fear of being tainted by association.

That's a very good point Fysh. Anyway Liam Neeson is meant to be taking over the tatooist role http://www.spike.com/blog/mantenna-friday/101123

I feel bad for Gibson. The guy obviously has personal problems but people should not be preventing him from getting work.

Warner Bros. is high on its "Sucker Punch" star Jamie Chung, as the actress has just been cast as Ed Helms' new fiancee in Todd Phillips' "The Hangover 2," Chung's publicist has confirmed to TheWrap.
WB and Legendary Pictures' sequel finds returning stars Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Justin Bartha and Helms traveling to Thailand, where they again cross paths with the villainous Mr. Chow.
Meanwhile, Phillips has revealed that bad-boy boxer Mike Tyson will return in some capacity. Perhaps he goes to Thailand to demand a refund for his face tattoo from Liam Neeson, who was recently cast in a cameo as a tattoo artist?
"The Hangover 2" found itself embroiled in controversy two weeks ago after the sequel's cast and crew objected to working with Mel Gibson, who had initially been cast in a cameo despite accusations that he struck his former girlfriend, Oksana Griegorieva.
The blogosphere has been buzzing with reports that Galifianakis used his newfound star power to lead the mini-revolt against Gibson's casting. Jezebel decided to dig a little further, and reported on Monday that the actor's concerns may stem from the dedicated work he does with girlfriend Quinn Lundberg, the founder of NGO Growing Voices, which is an organization that works with survivors of domestic violence in North Carolina, where the actor spends most of his downtime.
"The Hangover 2" is currently shooting in Los Angeles before the production moves to Thailand.

Liam Neeson will replace Mel Gibson in a cameo as a tattoo artist

The Wrap reports that Paul Giamatti will be coming on board the project and hypothesizes that he could be playing the tattoo artist that Neeson recently announced he wasn't playing. Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter</I> got the scoop that Bill Clinton is making a cameo as himself, which he filmed in Bangkok on Saturday when he was there to deliver a speech on clean energy. Giamatti will begin filming his role in a few weeks.

He was just too annoying though. Over acted far too much, nothing smart or funny about his character. Just didn't really fit in with the rest of the movie. Fair enough, other parts of the movie were a big stretch of the imagination, but his character was just trying to be so crazy and zany that it felt too out of place. One of the most annoying characters I've seen in years.

If the character was played in a more subtle way, without the crazy laughs and high pitched deliveries, he could have been much funnier

That guy's most entertaining role was in Knocked Up when he was just acting normal. Now since The Hangover he's playing the same effing character in everything he does. It was annoying in The Hangover, and now it's just fcuking ridiculous.

Bill Clinton playing himself in a cameo role

    http://uk.movies.yahoo.com/15112010/5/clinton-gets-hangover-0.html
Bill Clinton the movie star? The former US president has filmed a cameo role for 'The Hangover 2' according to People Magazine.
The charismatic political figure will play himself in the sequel to the comedy smash, which will once again focus on the aftermath of Zach Galifianakis (Alan), Bradley Cooper (Phil) and Ed Helm's (Stu) drunken adventures.
Clinton was already in Thailand making a speech about clean energy when he filmed the scene on Saturday.
Cameo roles in 'The Hangover' sequel have been big news recently.
Director Todd Phillips wanted Mel Gibson to play a crazed tattoo artist in the movie, but replaced him with Liam Neeson after the original cast objected to the troubled star's involvement.
Phillips' insisted, however, that the 'Lethal Weapon' star wasn't fired.
"No one was ever fired. It's a term that's so obscene to me," he said.
"Someone was doing me a favour to come in for a two-minute cameo, and we changed it. It wasn't like we fired somebody. Gibson was just doing a favour from the beginning."
The original film's cameo was a talking point, with boxer Mike Tyson's small part in the movie bringing in the biggest laughs in the 2009 hit comedy.

It probably will be the same film in a different location with different cameos.

Last night I noticed I had The Hangover in my movie list and promptly got rid of it, if I had to watch that fùckin' movie one more fùckin' time I'd kill myself!!

I liked it when it first came out, wasn't pissing-myself but it was enjoyable. Then friends and people wanted to watch it over & over & over & over & over & over a-fùckin'-gain.

Pineapple Express, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Sex Drive...........all these latest comedies have been utterly destroyed for me because of people watching them repeatedly around me. Not that I particulary liked those ones in the first place.

Anyways, with all these cameos for the 2nd film it's feels like it's going to be a live-action Family Guy or something.....................*shudders*

He wasn't even acting like a stereotypical camp gay person or whatever. He went way past that. He was just.... weird. I dunno. A lot of people liked him, but I just thought he was terrible and that character could have been so much better with a bit of subtlety rather and being so wacky and zany

Alarm bells ringing for me over the change of writers. The first film was written by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore; the sequel is by Scot Armstrong, Craig Mazin and Todd Phillips. What made the original great was the brilliant script - Hangover 2 won't have that.

    the-hangover-2-112410.jpg

Here's the first official peek at The Hangover 2

In the follow-up to the record-breaking hit comedy 'The Hangover,' Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms), Alan (Zach Galifianakis) and Doug (Justin Bartha) travel to exotic Thailand for Stu's wedding. After the unforgettable bachelor party in Las Vegas, Stu is taking no chances and has opted for a safe, subdued pre-wedding brunch. However, things don't always go as planned. What happens in Vegas may stay in Vegas, but what happens in Bangkok can't even be imagined.
