A friend of mine showed me this email she got, thought it worth posting on here, (is it scare-mongering? I don't know. Better safe than sorry.) :

I was hearing that story when I was eight years old, it was on Louth forum this year and will never go away

oh it's really not anything to think about. If you honestly think about it how could you leave the house in the morning. Bus driver may drive you off to a forest. Florist may knock you out with gas when smelling flowers. lollipop lady may be crazy and intenially get you to cross the road when its not safe. Get what i'm saying? If not i have a stone that stops bears from attacking which i'll sell you. It works i've never been attacked by a bear

I have a friend who lives in the Wicklow mountains who has witnessed this last year with a pram being left in the middle of the road.she drove on home and rang the guards. Whether you think this is true or not is irrelevant. Some people are gullible enough and would stop for this kind of thing so I think it's only right for the op to post this thread.

EDIT: ... then after re-reading I realised that it was mostly what was in the original itself, and not only the send-up, that made me lol the most...

Whether or not this warning has done the rounds, I would agree that it pays to be vigilant.

A few years ago I personally watched a group of youths who were known joy riders stuff a jumper and a pair of trousers with more rags and leave in at the side of a road close to a field. From a distance it looked like a body at the side of the road. Took about 10 minutes before some guy stopped to see if it was someone who had been knocked down. As he got to the "victim" two guys jumped into his car. He ran back and put his hand through the open side window to try an retrieve the keys to stop his car being stolen and had a screw driver driven through his forearm. The two guys then drove off in his car.

Also a female friend of a friend had a rat thrown through her sun roof during the summer a few years back. Of course she stopped the car and jumped out, only to watch 2 guys jump into her car and speed off. Car was found burnt out two days later.

So there are folks out there who will use this kind of tactic for nefarious reasons. So whether you think it is a real or fake message, I would advise caution. Personally I would be following the advice and driving on and calling 999.
