US conspiracy series The Event will start this Friday on RTÉ 2 and Channel 4. Will it be available on the RTÉ player?

    Yeah, it should be.

A Fine Gael leader like yourself would presumably be busy on a Friday night!

    Previously on the Event?

Sure the whole feckin' thing is 'previously'.

    2 minutes previously.
    13 months later.
    5 days previously.
    43 seconds previously.

The amount of ads on C4 is crazy, really disrupting the storyline. It is interesting enough so far.

C4 are criminal, what ever happened to ads every 20 mins? The good old days.

Twas entertaining enough hokum, through the flashbacks within flashbacks was a bit too much. I knew that couple were wrong uns!

Not really too confusing yet, I hope they do not descend into confusing scientific explanations. A good enough plot and certainly will keep watching it.

    Ridiculous amount of flashbacks.

Hmmmm...... I'm beginning to enjoy this. Maybe something to fill the gap that Lost left behind. Of course Lost was my true love and now she's gone, gone forever, but this might be the saucy minx that helps ride the pain away :D

Its on 4OD now OP, God Bless Channel 4 and their efficiency. But I'd be nearly more inclined to wait until/if RTE put it on the Player mainly due to the annoying 4OD ads. I wish Channel 4 would update them, if I see that Peep Show ad during a 4OD video one more time Ill scream.

    I liked it!

I watched Lost from beginning right through to the end. Thought that was relevant.

i would have thought it was a cross between lost and flashforward??no?

watched a couple of minutes of it, i think that will be all i will be watching.

i watched some of both series i mentioned, but couldnt hack all the chopping and changing.

i prefer the very well written straight up dramas.

I enjoyed it - I'm kinda hooked already!

Gigs '24 - Ben Ottewell and Ian Ball (Gomez), The Jesus & Mary Chain, The Smashing Pumpkins/Weezer, Pearl Jam, Green Day, Stendhal Festival, Forest Fest, Electric Picnic, Pixies, Ride, Therapy?, Public Service Broadcasting, IDLES, And So I Watch You From Afar

Gigs '25 - Spiritualized, Orbital, Supergrass, Stendhal Festival, Forest Fest, Electric Picnic, Vantastival

I thought it was pretty good. I'm a bit concerned about whether I'll care about any of the characters but it's early days. I persisted with FF and Lost so I'll give it a chance.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 242 ✭✭FlashGordon1969

Watched two episodes and so far enjoying it but its over doing it on the flashbacks. Im monitoring its audience figures from the US. I aint doing a flashforward on it again-watch an entire season then its cancelled! If it dips Im out but so far its holding up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 145 ✭✭Cyndaquil

Started watching it on 4od (first 3 episodes). It's better than I thought it would be, more engaging than Flashfoward, which I watched to the end. The reliance on flashbacks initially made me think they were trying to hard to be like Lost but they seem to be doing it in a different style. On the one hand it's good the way the answers don't seem to be as long coming but I don't think there's any harm in stretching out some mysteries. So far I think the show has promise but personally don't think it will ever match Lost.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,641 ✭✭✭✭Elmo

Not bad. Better actors than Flash Forward. Seems interesting. Lets hope it answers questions quickly.

I watched lost from start to finish too. I watched the first episode of the event but wasnt really taken with it. Didnt grab me straight away the way lost did. Havent watched the subsequent episodes yet, does it get better? Theres a lost sized hole in my life that aches to be filled......

Sorry there is another thread may need to be merged.

^ yeah we have two Event threads outside of the US one....these two should be merged into a UK/IRL exclusive thread.

    Fri 22 Oct 1.97 million
    Fri 29 Oct 1.81 million
    Fri 5 Nov 1.24 million
    Fri 12 Nov 1.18 million
    Fri 19 Nov 1.03 million
    Fri 26 Nov 0.89 million

I don't think American TV executives care about UK or Foreign viewing figures. (Last I saw it had about 100,000 Irish viewers across RTÉ 2 and C4). I would say both will continue to buy the series regardless, while possibly on less money. If it gets to season 2 I imagine it will be made available on the RTÉ Player for Irish Viewers. Both RTÉ and C4 should be making money on the advertising with the amount that they have spent on the series. C4 might struggle if they pay ridiculous prices like €1m per ep.

Annoyed the way 4OD put the last episode first. Watch the last C4 ep, went back to the previous ep and couldn't be bothered.

US TV channels make most of their money back on US audience long before the sell to international audiences.

It is at least doomed to E4 and/or late night RTÉ Two, did RTÉ show it on Friday?

Are RTÉ continuing with this? Yeah it doesn't get much better after ep 5.

So far it just about holds my attention. They seem to have cut back on flashbacks. The network has ordered a full series but I wonder if its will make it to a second series?

Has there ever been a US president in any TV series or Movie who gets SOOO involved in the minutiae of every plot detail? He's constantly showing up to interrogate minor cast members. Surely he has minions who can do this? He mustn't get anything else done like, oh, I don't know, managing the economy, greeting foreign heads of state etc.?

Getting seriously tired of this show with the iffy dialog, stupid overlap edit style and poor enough acting.

^ +1....in reality the President RARELY leaves the White House, the security implications are too big, in The Event you'd half expect the president to jump out of his car and drop into McDonald's for a happy meal!

It's tv we know, but the whole thing of The Event is just too silly for words, and i know 24 was the same....but come on!

24 was far better than this muck. The Presidents rarely left their place of residence other then in Day 4 when President Palmer 2 went walkabout but that was one of the worst seasons. All of the Presidents had security who played vital roles in the series, so far the head of Secret Services hasn't been seen in The Event  But I agree 24 wouldn't be the most realistic of TV show.

Having realism in a programme about aliens etc., is a bit of a tall order.

Perhaps they might come up with something, given that I think that they're rushing out a few more episodes to make up the rest of series 1, after they were recently given the go-ahead.

Not back in the US until February 28th, so probably early March.

    Sorry....

Hopefully Sarah Roemer took some acting lessons in the 3 months break (just in time for cancellation). :)

Monday nights at 10 eh? Was Friday nights at 9, so I guess we can say Channel 4 are downgrading it. Not sure if I can be bothered to pick it up again, missed the last episode before the break.

I don't see any sign of a Season 2 so it probably depends how the next few episodes go.

Jason Ritter has a recurring part in Parenthood also, which doesn't usually happen if your in a different show.
