    I was in Ikea once.

It was like a fucking nightmare. Even their hotdogs are sold by weight.

Why anyone would want to buy the same piece of ugly flat pack furniture that 5000000000 million people around Europe have in their house, is beyond me.

I put it down to the lemming syndrome, which explains why some people even seem to enjoy walking around their warehouses, lemming style, for days on end.

That song will remind me how IKEA go out of their way not to pay taxes by pretending to be a charity.

Also at :26, I am amazed they are able to walk up drawers which are most likely made out of particle board.

What annoys me about this ad is that the camera doesn't stay on the girls long enough.

That's why man invented the pause button.

    Didn't you get the memo?

    "ugly" is your personal opinion.

Why anybody would want to (a)drink the same kind of carbonated soft drink produced by Coca-Cola; (b) wear the same kind of denim jeans (c) watch the same kind of flat-screen tv (d) use the same kind of mobile phone; is not beyond me.

Perhaps they are just good products?

I'm reminded of the old joke "Eat Sh1te - 800 billion flies can't all be wrong....

    :)

I hope this ad isnt played to death like other ones and become the most irritating things, you want to kick the TV when they come on. That budweiser ad and the Bulmers one spring to mind

Why would the fact other people have the same kitchen be a problem? Do you care that millions have the same computer as you? I guess you're just an extremely unique individual who probably bought an iPhone because he's just so creative.

    Great 80's tune.

    Nicely done ad.

    You're all yabbering about it.

    My work here is done.

If I was the person that made that ad that is. :o

Jonah Lewie who sang the original is in the ad as the party host. There's a 3 minute version on youtube

And isn't that the late great Kirsty McColl singing back up?

And isn't that the late great Kirsty McColl singing back up?

No but she "sang" backing vocals on top of the pops!

Ah...so she didn't sing on the original recording but mimed on the show?

I never knew what the ad was for, as I put my foot through the tv screen before it finished.

    Does IKEA sell flat-pack tvs?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,943 ✭✭✭abouttobebanned

Haha nope. They fix shoes and cut keys.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,785 ✭✭✭KungPao

To be fair, it's a good ad. It's well done and nicely put together.

But it would be nothing without Mr. Lewie's song.

Looks like he has a whole house full of kitchens if you look at the ad, he's the host of the party.

No, he will get the cavalry to do it. :p

Super ad, in the longer version Jona Lewie actually goes off with the 2 girls at the end, the one in the white dress is truly a sight to behold.

I like the advert, then again, I'm older and remember it the first time around - the original song that is... :o

Probably because it's cheap and does the job furniture is supposed to do. I used to use crates and concrete blocks to make bookcases and coffee tables because it was cheap (free) and did the job. Furniture is used to sit on and put things on. It doesn't tell a story about who you really are deep down inside. It's just stuff to put your stuff on, no need to spend a small fortune on it.

Oh, and this thread reminds me of the film Demolition Man where everyone just listened to old jingles. If the music industry ever comes to that I will kill myself, seriously.

Good one....that children's hospital will have to be shelved now because of you

    So many moaners.:(

Well done IKEA, great ad, great pop song and cleverly cosntructed ad. Isn't it nice to see IKEA are still capable of being relevant and breaking old rules/mindsets and bringing some more affordable style and design to the high street or outta town furniture shoppers. If I was in the market for an off the shelf kitchen, I know where I'd be going.
