Breast Cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in women in Ireland. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) and throughout the month, the Irish Cancer Society, in partnership with Vhi Healthcare, is advising women to be breast aware. This means knowing what is normal for you so that if any changes do occur you will recognise them and talk to your local doctor.

Get to know the 5 Point Breast Awareness Code and call the National Cancer Helpline Freefone 1800 200 700 for information and advice or visit this link http://www.cancer.ie/action/breastawareness.php?bie

On this topic, how do ladies here feel about examining their breasts?

I have to admit that I find it really difficult to do. I get a bit scared and squeamish at the thought that I might actually find some sort of lump. I'm going to the gp on Friday and I was wondering is it possible for the gp to check them for you? Is that possible?

Yep the doctor can examine them.

You should try to get over the squeamishness if you can though. Once you get the all clear from the doc you can get to know what is normal for your breasts.
