    Anyone here capable of servicing a laptop or willing to recommend a person/business that's good at it? The charger seems a bit wonky in the back of the laptop and I need to get it checked out. Thanks.

    Hi, maybe try Laptech.

    Its a second hand laptop place between Mcswiggans and hole in the wall over in Woodquay.

    The guy that runs the place also does repairs. Its worth checking out I think.

    Before you try Laptech and the like, have a read of a post I made here last week!!

    Here's it copied and pasted:

    =============================
    Thanks to all for your helpful responses.

    I think that I have resolved my laptop issues myself, and this is after a very well known laptop repair shop told me they fixed it, but if it still gave trouble it would probably need a new motherboard/processor(it which case he advised me a new laptop would be cheaper!), charged me €50, and then when I got it home 90% of the problems remained!

    I dont mind the €50 labour charge, but FFS don't tell me my laptop it is fixed when it clearly isn't, and that I may possibility need to buy a new one because you are unable to fix it .

    Anyway if it is a help to anyone else, here's a list of the problems I had with the laptop and how I (hopefully) resolved them:
    Frequent blue screens
    Unexpected shutdowns
    Google crome, internet explorer, mozilla all crash.
    various othe programmes crash unexpectedly
    over heating, the fan is always on
    battery not detected

    I asked a lady in NUIG compuer services if she could recommend to me a good pc tech, she couldn't (other than the place I originally left it in to! )but she suggested that I;

    Go to
    -my computer,
    -Vista
    -Properties
    -Run Error checking

    And so far this 2 minute of set up, and a half an hour of letting the laptop do its thing has seemingly resolved all my problems!
    ======================================

    It's definitely worth a try if you've software issue, or hardware issues stemming from a software source.

    Have to agree with the keen edge here. A girl dropped her laptop in and after a month was told it couldnt be fixed. She gave it to me to see if I could get her photos off the hard drive. When I opened it up the hard drive was gone. No reply to her calls either.

    There is a place beside the headford road fruit and veg that replaced a good few pieces in my friends HP laptop. And all for under 60euro - new processor, new keys for keyboard and cleaned the inside a bit.
    There is basically a stairs at the left of the fruit and veg shop (as you are looking at it) and the repair shop is at the top somewhere. Very good service. I can find out more info you want later.

    I know a guy who does this sort of thing in his spare time. He's been able to fix a few friends' laptops.

    PM me if you want contact details.

    I had a quick google there and came up with this place:
    http://www.computeracesgalway.com/contact.html

    I'm pretty sure that is the place we used. We were recommended by the laptopshop in or around woodquay. I would definately recommend them. I'm verifying this is the place, but I'm pretty sure it is.

    if its a hewlet packard laptop ,alot of them have faulty batteries which wont charge and get very hot after a while .they will replace it for you if you email them about the problem.(they contacted me a few months back about the model i have) if it keeps giving trouble the computer, when you turn it on in the left hand corner some options appear before it starts to load windows select f11 and this will return your computer to original factory condition with windows loaded .then just reload whatever you had on it back on . this should get it back up to speed but wont sort battery problem

    yeah, this is what the guys in that store were saying to me. A huge batch of laptops are faulty due to overheating. Other regions like US and Asia are successfully getting replacements for free. I hadn't heard they were doing the same in Ireland (anyway this is speculation; we don't know what laptop he has) - but it sounds like a different problem

    These guys are good and quick. If needed there was a pickup and dropoff support but not to sure how this works.

    No fix, no charge as far as I remember.

    Thanks for the replies people. I think that it might just be the wire in the charger that's loose, will probably have someone look at it first anyways.
