Board OH Phenomenon

The word OH. Why does it make me cringe so?

Its your Girlfriend, Boyfriend, Husband, Wife, Dog, Sheep... whatever your into, I don't care...

But for god sake how does half of boards manage to call their spouse an "OH" without one of their best friends swiftly clipping them around the back of the ear for good measure?

    Todays annoyance.

OH is not a word, it's an acronym.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,554 ✭✭✭✭alwaysadub

I don't use it cos i don't have one, but it's better than DH, and probably DW, though i can't remember seeing that as much.

because it's two letters and people on the internet are too retarded to type full words.

If you're on amateur radio, the code for girlfriend is YL.

If she becomes your wife, she becomes your XYL.

Why not try these terms instead?:p

Agreed, I will from here on refer to my girlfriend as the proprietor of the sex hole

Why are you getting so keyed up about it? It's just another acronym for the benefit of lazy typists. They can't be bothered typing girlfriend or boyfriend or husband or wife.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,144 ✭✭✭✭Cicero

OP used to have an OH but when the OP went OH OH OH OH OH OH ....once too often....the OP's OH had enough, and went and got another OH and the OP went....OH!

Check out any message boards concerning weddings, relationships or parenthood; they're full of ridiculous acronyms that make you puke when you find out what they mean. Eg: HTB=husband to be, DD=darling daughter etc

    OH please don't
    OH please,

Its not that bad but it does sound a little....needy or desperate or something? Like as if the person saying it was a deeply unhappy husk of a human before they met their other half. Maybe its said more by people who really do rely on their partners for everything?

I think if a person was in a relationship with someone for years & years then yeah i kind of get it. If their married, yeah fair enough.

People who have been with their current partner for a few months, you don't know the other person well enough to call them your OH.

Please don't say it. Its a bit embarrassing. And sad.

GF, BF, HB, whatever... OH? What? If you break up do you loose the left half of your body or something.

If I called herself any other half down the pub I wouldn't be around for long to live it down. Too much Oprah for some people.

TBH & IMO are two more initialisms I think are overused. I normally don't question a posters honesty and the post itself should express the opinion.

So irritating, and willfully genderless and obtuse. Say the gender of the person you are with! What are you ashamed of?

    I don't give a shit about whales.

It bothers people, let them have their gripes damn you!!! :D

It's not a boards thing. Yes it is annoying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,617 ✭✭✭Cat Melodeon

Yeah, but nobody uses these in real life, just on boards and the like. It's lazy typing, they're not being cutsie. No one could be that cloyingly sweet and have an OH.

People get worked up about the stupidest things.

OH is just easier than saying Other Half, Girlfriend, Boyfriend or whatever, it's the internet, people use abbreviations....apparently....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,204 ✭✭✭FoxT

Well I think it could be graded depending on how well the relationship is doing.

pic but no sound ... o

things truckin along nicely ... OH

    Kinda fond of him/her ...OHHH

In the first flush of passionate romance OOOOHHHHHHH!

And of course, if it is a sheep, you can just refer to it as the OH & nobody starts asking the hard questions...

I believe people were informed to use IMO here a lot more for legal reasons so boards can't be drawn into it when people say things like this.

Bertie Ahern is a cúnt, IMO.
