    Hi everyone,

people on here seem to really know their stuff, so im hoping i can get some advice.

I have a really important exam coming up soon. Unfortunately for me, its in the morning. Im a really bad morning person, mainly cos i find it so hard to get to sleep. But even besides that, my brain just seems to function better later in the day. Anyways, i cant change the exam time so im hoping if i have a good breakfast it will give me the energy to get through. This exam involves a lot of writing ...well at least im hoping it does, i wont be writing if i cant remember anything :o

So my question is, what would be the ideal breakfast to keep me going for this - protein, carbs, a bit of both? I dont want to feel sluggish or hungry during the exam.
I was also thinking of taking a can of coke into the exam with me (i know its not healthy, but maybe a quick dose of sugar and caffeine if im flagging during the exam will perk me up) - is that a good idea?

    Really appreciate your suggestions, thanks:)

Porridge (oats) would be your best bet, in my opinion. They're a great source of complex carbohydrates - they release energy slowly over a long period of time (in comparison to sugary cereals like Special K, etc).

I eat it every day and make mine with milk. I also have a couple of boiled eggs, a fish oil capsule and a pint of water. It's a filling, healthy breakfast that will keep you going until lunch.

As for the can of Coke, I guess as a once off it would be fine to give you a short boost of sugar, as well as the caffeine, however with the amount of sugar in it be prepared for a slump after about 30 minutes. Your best bet would be to have it towards the end of the exam, if you need it.

At the minute im loving oatbran cooked in coconut milk. When cooked i let in a square of Lindt 90% and let it melt in and then let some almond butter melt in too. yum.

Add in a little strawberry whey for that little kick. Im getting addicted to it.

Also : oatcakes with tuna on then and cheese or oatcakes with boiled eggs chopped on them.

Id say regards the caffeine - have a good espresso maybe beforehand. Always works for me. The Buzz will be much more effective than coke.

In general a good mix of protein, fats and some complex carbs and you can't go wrong.

I don't think a good breakfast will change you from a really bad morning person to a really good morning person in one day but fwiw I would go along with the porridge and boiled eggs suggestion. What do you normally have for breakfast? For the sake of your longer term wellbeing you should find out what is causing your sleep problems.

usually id have a scrambled egg and a few mushrooms on the side. I tend to leave porridge til suppertime usually cos its nice and easy to make.
