Similar to Twitbooked-in, after the user has seen 20 posts, there's a "load the next 2- posts" link at the bottom of the thread, which loads the next 20 posts in-line, instead of having to go to the next page.
Impact on server load probably won't be affected all that much obviously since the CSS and images aren't refreshed every time, but it will make the browsing experience quicker because the user doesn't have to wait for their piss-slow browser to reload every element on the page. This makes you guys look good.
It should also reduce the amount of open connections to the server because the browser doesn't have to check for updated images and CSS every time. Not that it does, but it will do this less, at least.
Now that you've broken codebase, I'm sure there's a big to-do list around somewhere that you can tag this onto. It's an easy win though IMO.
