Hey, am in search of a part time job to help get through the year and wondering does anybody have any tips of places worth trying for DCU students? So far I can think of IKEA which is not far and possibly taking on christmas temps. Also just been keeping an eye on jobs.ie but lots of recruitment companies and dodgy telesales jobs. Anyway, any tips are appreciated!

    Cheers!

Ikea have already brought in workers for the Christmas period, next time they'll be employing will probably be in Late Spring.

"Next" on Grafton Street (and Dundrum Town Centre if you're willing to make the trek) will be hiring Crimbo sales staff pretty soon and it's worth trying to get hired now. M&S at the top of O'Connell Street also hire Xmas staff every year (and they pay a king's ransom to their staff; at least they did when I worked there) so check them out, too.

The best way to get a job though is to just print off a load of CVs and get up off your ass. Most students who complain about not having part-time jobs and use the recession as an excuse are the people who don't get up off their ass to look for work.

Really? Try applying for them then (you have to do it online, primark.ie). You can't, because they are not hiring.

My friend, I worked for penneys for a year and a half, I know how they do things. You're right, they did hire in groups, in late august/early september. They don't hire this late because it takes time to train new employees in for the Christmas rush.

Also, as I've already told you, you have to apply online, you can't walk in with a CV, they won't take it.

No no, you can't. If they do take it, it will be to shut you up, and it will be thrown straight in the bin, I saw it happen time and time again.

Please, go in with your CV, and come back and tell me how it went. :pac:

The North Face near Grafton St. is hiring now, lookin for full time staff, but they might take you on if you ask. Also i saw another one on that street parallel to Grafton, some other clothes shop.

Just print off a rake of cv's and wander around.

Whats the big deal? Jesus you think if your CV gets thrown in the bin that this is the first and last time that will happen?? You've nothing to lose, drop one in for sure but as with handing CV's anywhere, always ask for a manager and try and hand it to him/her rather than some employee who is far more likely to throw it in the bin. Best of luck!

The deal is that if you want a job in a penneys store you have to apply online, on primark.ie, that's the only way you'll get a job off them, they can't do anything with CVs in there.

Stop talking ****e and leading people in the wrong direction ya pessimistic fool! As a matter of fact i work in the pennies store in navan. They do take cvs and they do look at them. Thats how i got the job just 1 month ago!. They're also hiring for christmas so DO drop your cv in whoever it is looking for the job because you just never know!

He's not talking sh1te. I work in the Penneys in Swords and we DO NOT take CVs. Neither do O'Connell St or Mary St. I've been working there for over 2 years and we haven't taken CVs in a long time.

For the third time in this thread I believe:
Penneys hire for christmas in august/september, and occasionally in october if the need arises (if they have to let people go from the first 2 batches). This is because it takes time to train staff in to the store so they're going at full capacity for the christmas rush. It's common sense.
I really doubt you're telling the truth tbh.

Mate of mine got a job in one of the Penneys in town last week. He started today think its about 5 hours a week, he says they mentioned their still hiring.

Penneys said I wasn't suitable after I did their silly questionnaire, it was humiliating :o

They told my brother the same. They said he didn't have suitable retail experience... he was Xmas Penneys staff last year...

Few places in Blanchardstown S.C at the moment:
Gamestop on the ground-floor, HMV, Topshop, one of the cafes and the Camera Shop.

Henry st. has lots of window messages too - walked down the other day and was surprised.

There's a shop of Liffey St. too with an ad up

I got gamestop for the xmas. Had retail experience in similar type shop so was lucky I guess. Would actually love to get a job in a cafe rather than retail but beggars can't be choosers. Definitely get the CV's in to places this week as the xmas roles are filling up but this is definitely the best time of year to land a job as almost everywhere needs more staff over the next few weeks.
