Who here would be interested in recording their own gameplay but are put off by the following:

    Price of HD capture cards.
Likeliness your videos will be seen.
    ?

Curious to see the interest on Boards.

Price is #1 factor most definitely. #2 would probably be time factor, for editing and stuff like that now that I'm back at college.

As for the likeliness the vid would be seen, I'm not hugely bothered by it. Sure it'd be nice to have a big fan base and all that but I'd be getting enjoyment from recording / making the videos. Most people on Boards would watch another Boardsie's videos, Tallon's your's and Magill's etc.

Can't wait for Black Ops it has to be said. Theatre mode will rock.

    Oh, and 1,500th post :D

I'd be tempted to do one with just the good parts of my gameplay(bad parts edited out),make it seems like I'm class when I'm clearly not.

I would love to record my gameplay but just don't have the money for a capture card. I like video editing and photoshop etc. too so would be a good experience. Can't wait for theatre mode in Black Ops :)

I hope to get one when the xbox is fixed and when I get some income.
Price is difficult as I play in SD as opposed to the preferable HD.

I would love to record HD and wouldn't give a flying fúck if it wasn't seen by many or not :), it's just the price though :(.

Exactly how I feel, however, I do little bits to help them reach a wider audience.

I'd really really love to. I love working with computers so I'd find the editing etc. fantastic. the only thing that puts me off at the moment is I don't think my gameplay would be that great. Every so often I pull a big score, but sure so does everyone. most the time it's just average. Meh. I'd love to try it though.

Montages would be your type of thing then, lots of editting and you dont need to be amazing to get some cool ****.

Although from reading some comments on boards over the last few months, i think most people don't realise how hard it is to get good montage worthy clips, or at least what i would consider good, alot of my footage i consider filler and dont get excited when i pulled it off in the first place.

Black op's is gonna be sweet imo, hopefully the whole threatre thing isnt ****.

This. But x100 if the shots match the beat / rhytm of the music.
If I do make a montage I'll use something like "Brainstorm" from the Arctic Monkeys or something, try and get it in sync somewhat

:) me too. Main reasons would be:--
    I'm shyte
    Too much of a technophobe
Takes too long and prefer to be playing the game

I probably would post videos but that would be down to more wanting to edit especially when it comes to COD. I think I've established my appreciation for Frags, I just love the syncing and blending of it all.

Now with games having the capacity for a player to upload videos and clips - like EA games (FIFA and Uncharteed 2) and now Black Ops I see even less of a point in buying one.

I think the market is saturated with overly average gameplay and frankly sub-standard commentary, that's a turn off. Though it doesn't stop people from getting onto Machinima. Seems like every tom, dick and harry as a PVR. Well it certainly feels like it. Lot of it is ego driven. No doubt in my mind the majority will say no I'm not in for the fans, Machinima contract etc. But that's BS :pac: Youtube is going to be a horrid place when Black Ops comes out IMO.

Money isn't an issue or anything I should just add. Now with games having the capacity for a player to upload videos and clips - like EA games (FIFA and Uncharteed 2) and now Black Ops I see even less of a point in buying one.

edit - went on a bit of a rant, sorry :D

It's the price that puts me off, though i have an SD capture card thingy on the way.

Before i had to wipe my pc...several times, I had loads of fraps recordings from COD2, COD4, BF2 and 2142 all edited and with music to them. I never put them on youtube though, i just kept them and watched them myself. Odd I know, but probably because I love myself.

I'll probably do the same with xbox. Might put a few worthwhile one's up on youtube though.

It's why I'll avoid youtube for a good while. That and the fact that youtube comments are a cesspit of stupidity in the main.

This is why I'd rather put my videos here and get some actual feedback

It's nearly a year on from the release of MW2 and up until Reach was released recently, there was an obscene amount of MW2(or COD in general) vids still out there. Thanks to feckin Machinima.

But yeah the first few months especially with the Christmas holidays with schools closed and kids at home will be unbearable. I'll be shocked if 3/4ths of kids under the age of 14 aren't uploading vids everyday or even hourly if possible.

I agree its pointless to buy a PVR atm (If your only interested in recording fifa/Blops/halo etc). I think it'll still be handy for those who have them tho, i doubt that the built in theatre mode will record ingame voicechat which is good for clans etc and i still think recording your own POV with a PVR will probably be more accurate than the threatre mode as its YOUR pov and not the servers, there will always be a slight delay so it wont be where your actually aiming etc.. thats only minor tho and if i didn't have a PVR already i certainly wouldn't buy one at this stage.

Don't agree with the whole market saturation ****e that people keep going on about tho(Hutch goes on about it all the time.... ZzZZZzzZZzz boring... so i unsubbed). Unless your someone that actively goes onto youtube and searches for nothing but mw2 gameplays/commentaries you wont notice an increase in people uploading... i mean.. even now you couldn't go and watch every clip on youtube because theres too many. Im subbed to a couple of the machinima guys, but i rarely watch any of there videos (Commentaries are boring imo, unless the guy is ****ing mad, like TheSidesho :D... they just aren't my thing, i'd rather talk to my friends than listen to some guy waffle on about how to improve my game when i know im twice as good as he is anyway.. i guess its handy for new players tho and alot of people obviously enjoy it). I'd tend to just watch the videos that are posted by guys on here or from my clanmates, not because they're better players or more interesting commentators, but because its a community and imo more interesting than randomers. Really looking forward to Blops, everyone having the chance to show the awesome **** they've done, will be some crazy **** on here.. im sure of it. I know i'll be making an "AK47" community montage, will get everyone in the clan to send me 2 or 3 of their craziest clips and i'll make an epic montage with them all.

As for people doing it for "fans" and machinima contracts etc, i'd say alot of youtubers are like that, not just guys posting mw2 videos.. i wouldn't post a video if it only got 5 views... may aswel show it to my family. I find it satisfying when some1 says "Awesome montage" or even "Nice job mate", im in general very egotistic when i play games tho... so yeah i know i come across that way on here sometimes :D Aw well... its not the reason i post videos tho.

Im content with the 300-400(****... my first mw2 montage has like 5k or something :o) views i get on my montages etc, thats quite alot for me :D (Most of those are from boards aswel, thank you guis !).

    Now.. thats a rant.

Go ahead, just give me credit for it :pac:
If you are using Brainstorm, I was thinking about doing the "louder beats", you can hear they're every 3/4 beats. Was going to use a shotgun cos they're instant kills in a way, same with a sniper, wouldn't work as well with an AR or anything like that.

I'd use either, "Brainstorm", "A Certain Romance" or "A View From The Afternoon" in my montage. Bit of an AM freak :p:)

After reading Magill's post I'd agree that I wouldn't post it to Youtube for views, if I'm recording, it's only to show RL mates, and you Boardsies. I'd probably be swamped with comments like "OMG YOU DIED, THIS VID SUX" and "wait, you aimed full down your sniper rifle, who does that? l0l0l0l0lll0l"

i could see myself getting into it but not for cod games i dont think . not in the normal sense it might be more tutorial videos like helping people find handy sniping spots choke points the proper way to deal with campers . i mean shammy gave me some great pointers on dealing with campers .
    1 leave them alone
    2 leave them alone
    3 leave them alone

they get bored and have to move if your team avoids them

ah but the comic element he brings to the games is a beautiful thing . the abuse he gives anything and everything not himself is unreal :D

anyway the longer i think about it the more im sure i wouldnt have the dedication to stick to any kind of structured tutorial so ill leave the videos to tallon and co

It's certainly an important part of it. I don't care who clever it is but if you're on a decent killstreak, turn a corner and walk into an akimbo shotgun wielding camper you are going back for him.
Tbh i've no problem with any tactics used by other players the only thing that really annoys me is lag. When the killcam shows a completley different series of events that you just went through.

Anyway, i put both smokes down.... next thing i hear a ****ing semtex flying over the building (Down by the powergrid) and boom !!! I spawn at the other side of the ****ing map !! GRRRR... He stole my airstrike and sentry :( i was so angry i hunted that bastard down all game, revenge killing to the max.
