    Just doing exam questions.

Think thats where I fall down the previous times. Lack of practice under exam conditions and arriving on the day and getting stuck for time as a result.

Usually I leave it to the last 2/3 weeks to do exam q's.

I'm straight into them already now.

Yes - I find that am doing all exam questions now - I have culled my audit notes and only have necessary info with me - <snip>
I also need to be very strict with myself on time - once allocated time on question is up - leave this question and move on -

I am still trying to get my hands on a copy of Advanced Auditing and Assurance - published by the ICAI - does anyone know of someone who would have a copy

the ICAI dont have any left to buy and are waiting for a new version for this years students ....

No mention of Grind Schools (see Charter) - Lets keep this thread open.

Next person will get issued a card.

yeah just doing exam papers as well, its very difficult trying to cull my notes.

Thinking about heading to UCC limerick to study as soon as I get off work.

I think one of the main problems I had in Auditing was the fact that I had too many notes, I had about 4 lever arch folders in the 1st exam and trying to locate the relevant info was tough and awkward.

I tried to condense my notes for the resits and found them more useful, however still failed. I'm just concentrating on past papers from here on in, try to improve my exam technique and see where that gets me.

yeah auditing is a tough one for the amount of notes.
another one is MABF, I have 5 folders for that one, doing my utmost to condense the notes almost impossible.
    2 folders - MA
    1 folder - BF
    1- Folder - past papers/exam papers
    1 - folder - BF Manual (ICAI)
1- Folder - Qs and Ans BF (ICAI)

I haven't started to study yet - just have Audit to do. How much have u guys done already (hours / Q's).

Hoping to get down to it the week after next - a couple of nights a week and then every Saturday in Nov/Dec.

Controls Q's and timing always are my downfall. Was there any advise given @ the Institute revision course (if any of ye went)?

My only notes are those given out in the original lectures and exam papers - think I've 2 folders.......

Bluffed my way through the Debtors Question.

Had no idea what a invoice confirmation was let alone its advantages/disadvantages.

    As for the €400k.

Said that the post balance sheet events were crucial as far as this was concerned.

Overall i think the rest of the exam was ok enough.

are there many left to get through these exams and what happens if you don't get old fae?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,056 ✭✭✭applehunter

Institute certainly didn't go easy on us poor unfortunates today.

Financial Accounting : Nothing too difficult, just a bit specific in terms of particular standards. Should be ok.

Tax Planing : 58% of the paper given to transfer on trade. Had to have been a new examiner as that was a joke.

Barely had anything written for the 17 mark question on the transfer of goods and the corporate tax effects. 17 marks. I ask you?

Was really confident going into tax but struggled.

Hopefully I got over the 40% mark in it.

    ive lost my exam letter!!!
could someone post up the address of the old fae exam centre for tommorrow mabf in dublin?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46 Scraping_By

    Dublin
    Chartered Accountants House
    47-49 Pearse St
    Dublin 2

It's just in the new CAI offices on the first floor.

Edit: Well that's where i was today for FA / Tax and i'm there again on Friday for Multi D so I assume MABF is there too!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21 drok

Views on MABF anyone? Whats the general feeling? I thought the paper was hard, esp parts (b)(i) and part (c). Did people write much for part (c) or just quick bullet points?? I didn't have notes for those questions on dividend policy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,056 ✭✭✭applehunter

had a disaster. Took way too much time on variances without actually answering the thing. Depressing. I always seem to have 1 shocker. Looking at the paper when i got home and on reflection it was not too bad. Needed a cool head in the exam.

Sorry to hear it and I hope that overall - besides the variances - the paper went ok. I know exactly what you mean, though, unfortunately. I felt that way about the first part of the FA exam - it was straightforward after the exam but at the time, gah!!

Oh and just wanted to say thanks a million, nay a trillion, for those tax notes / map... saved my life with all that losses forward, S400, 401, twdv transfer in a group, transfer of a trade, blah blah blah in the exam!! The focus of that paper was so narrow!! So, again, thanks!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46 Scraping_By

Gah multi-D was hard today! Spent too much time on financial ratios and not enough time on reaching conclusions and such... Spent too long on that P&L as well... Should pass it hopefully but there won't be too many spare marks there to compensate for FA / Tax... Gosh darn it!! Now just six weeks of dread until the results... ho ho ho

I have to agree with you, it definately seems that there is a new tax examiner, totally messed up that 17 mark question - still don't know what they were looking for. i don't even think i'll get 40%.

I thought Financial was quite tough as well (and it would probably be my better subject of the 2).

Lordy Lordy people! Three days and counting... I've got myself so stressed out I keep doing that gross thing where you throw up a little in your mouth... fun... (TMI I know but it just creates the perfect picture of how ****e these results have me feelin)

I hate this part, the dread of waiting, waiting, waiting - and then, once you find out, it's so final and unchangeable... Can't win... :(
