Hi all, I usually get a portion of pineapple pieces in Tesco in the morning. They are in the deli fridge and are literally just cut up pineapple, nothing else. This morning they were out of stock so I got these Dole tubs of pineapple pieces in juice. The ingredients say 66% pineapple pieces, 34% pineapple juices and no added sugar. Just wondering does anyone know if these are fresh pineapple and if they are as good for you as the other ones. Thanks!

The BB date should give away if they are fresh or not, I would presume the dole ones are on the shelf and so are heat treated. I think I saw them near the tinned fruit on the shelf, so they are trying to make the look like they are fresh but are really more like tinned ones.

And are the tinned really bad? Its just for convenience really. I have IBS and the pineapple helps but I don't want to eat them if they are very processed or anything?

The tinned will have more sugar too because of the juice.
If you check out the nutrition info here for a raw pineapple, it's 10g sugar per 100g.
For drained canned pineapple in juice it's 14g sugar per 100g.
(You'll need to change the serving size here to compare directly)
Also check out the Vit C value, 80% of your RDA from 100g raw pineapple and 16% from 100g canned.
No idea how accurate this is, I'm sure it varies by brand as well, but I'd say there's some truth to it.
