Drink up on the 5th weekend :pac:

Don't worry March 2011 has 5 Tuesdays Wednesdays and Thurdays. They get you back in the end.

    meh

why doesn't every month just have 28 days, that way we could have an extra one and only one day left over.
Then you wouldn't even need to learn the song to figure out how many days in the month

I don't understand how this could only be every few hundred years. If a month has 31 days and the first day of the month is a Friday then this would be true. How can that happen only once every few hundred years.

Why do I get the feeling that I'm going to have to stretch last months wages just that little bit further...?

You can't divide 13 months into 4 seasons.

I think it's that all three happening 5 times in a month only happens every 800 years or so, or something like that. But I don't event think that's right. I read it somewhere at sometime and can't remember what it was. It was probably both intersting and importan.t :(

But, but, but correct me if Im wrong but there are less than 800 years between Oct 2010 to July 2011? :P

Sorry, I read that as July 2010. January 2010 had 5 weekends too. But it's some sort of combination that happens this month that only happens every hundred years, and someone mucked it up by saying it was weekends. It's probably some sort of astronomy thing.

And how would that be better then four 3-month seasons? Having different seasons starting in the middle of a month? No.

It happens once every hundred thousand years or so. When the sun don't shine, the moon don't glow, and the grass don't grow.

Well a calendar pattern repeats itself every 5 or 6 years (depending on the location of the leapyear - 7 days in a week minus the usual "extra" day for a normal year or 2 days for the leapyear ) so therefore October 2016 should be the exact same as this year....and lo and behold, it is :

    http://www.hf.rim.or.jp/~kaji/cal/cal.cgi?2016

P.S. Apparently - according to answers.com - there's a third option; it could also be 11 years before a pattern repeats, and my brain isn't obliging as to why that is.....maybe that's simply covering an entire year from start to finish, and not just a specific month, or maybe it's ass-covering the "exception" where it's that long before a 29-day February repeats ?

I'm surprised that no-one has managed to point out that in addition to five weekends, one of them is a bank holiday weekend!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 936 ✭✭✭Hasmunch

Every October has 31 days, all you need for this to happen is for the first day of OCtober to fall on a friday and vola, you have 5 Fridays, 5 saturdays and 5 Sundays.
It could happen every 7 years so every 800 is a slight bit out.

Next time it happens is 2021 by the way (for october that is)

There are only two seasons in Ireland as it is anyway - "cold and wet" and "slightly warmer and wet".

It's great for contractors paid hourly, there are 4 x 5 week months per annum, so taking 4 weeks off a year you still invoice for 48 weeks, averages out at 12 x 4 week invoices.

Hated the feckers when I was staff and paid monthly though.

Tesco pays every 4 week rather than monthly, which is handy as you get paid 13 times per year. It can get a bit messy with bills though, if loans goes out on a set date every month, this can end up being right before payday :(

Any shower I ever worked for (only 2 full time jobs before I went contracting) paid monthly, same day every month.

well Tesco pay every four weeks as they use a 4 week accounting period (with 5 week periods) as monthly periods are differing lengths, hence 5-4-4, 5-4-4, 5-4-4, 5-4-4 so each month is comparable easily and each quarter is also the same length.. Once you get used to it, it makes far more sense than doing things monthly as you cannot compare months without a lots of work to balance length and number of different days of the week and so forth.

Not sure, 30 or 31 days in a month, 28 days in 4 weeks, 35 days is 5 weeks.

Every 6/7 years you have 53 weeks in a year so I doubt it is 800 years.

If it is, it's the Brits fault.
